Probably Jakubowicz is the start of a new wave of filmmakers long time needed in Venezuelan Cinema.
This movie has a new kind of approach in every aspect: production, direction, screen writing, marketing, etc. Even when it deals with really tough issues of our society, it's something we venezuelans can be proud of.
Finally something the new audiences can relate to, instead of dreadful films by Chalbaud and Azpúrua, the responsibles for the decadence in the quality in venezuelan films.
Hooray for Jakubowicz!

Set during the Independence War (early 1800's), when Simón Bolívar's troops fought against Spain to free Venezuela, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador and New Granada (now Colombia), Manuela Sáenz tells the love story between Sáenz and Bolívar in a very romantic way, and also shows the character of this woman, who stood up by herself in a time were woman were diminished.
The film has a great script (by Leonardo Padrón), and Cézary Jaworsky makes a remarkable job with the photography. Not to mention the great directing by Diego Rísquez.
This movie also features the last performance by Mariano Álvarez (Simón Bolívar), whose career in venezuelan TV, theater and cinema will never be forgotten.
And Beatríz Valdés (Manuela Sáenz) shows that she can make much more than just soap operas.
If you want to see a great story about this great woman, go see this movie!

Like many other people, I was amazed by the great reviews this movie had before its premier in Venezuela, so I went to see it immediately.
This is a very cool movie in a sort of Tarantino-meets-Guy-Ritchie way, but it's quite obvious that Bielinsky doesn't copy any of these styles, and tries to develop his very own language. And in my opinion, he succeeded!
Nice to see a South American movie that tries to be entertaining, and not the usual "I want to show the social problems, so I can change the world" crap...
For me, I'll be waiting for Bielinsky next deliver...
