This was a good movie, but not as good as The Bourne Identity. The story was good, though predictable, and the acting was good, but there was a lot of really bad camera work. The fight scenes and car chases were tedious and nearly unwatchable, and in this type of film those things are very important. I have heard that they intend to continue the Bourne series with at least one more film. Hopefully they will return to the director of the first, or at least one of the many directors who can film a watchable action scene. The film is definitely worth seeing, but I must admit that I was glad I paid a matinee price.
I liked this film very much. As with most comedy/horror films, the plot is fairly absurd. An infertile couple is desperate for a child. When the husband digs up a tree root vaguely resembling a child the woman loves it so much that it comes to life, and life begins to imitate a frightening fairly tale. It gets pretty slow towards the end, and would have been an even better film had it been about 25 minutes shorter. But, the film is great fun to watch, especially the performance of the woman playing Little Otik's mother, who is just insanely funny in the protection of her "son".
It's certainly not the best of it's kind, but it is a hilarious, twisted nightmare of a tale that fans of the genre will likely enjoy.

This is a very funny monster/horror spoof, with many wickedly funny one-liners. I laughed out loud several times. It does a wonderful job of poking fun at one of my favorite types of films, the monster movies of decades past, without becoming demeaning or insulting to fans of the genre. In fact, at times it is as much homage as spoof.
