..the starting of the film through the candle holder steal and return scenes, the first encounter among the main characters, etc it's a wonderful starting hint on the main plot setting the mind towards Victor Hugo's les Miserables masterpiece and nonetheless not looking as a plain copy or re-interpretation. Excellent choose of cast and Sophia Loren is as beautiful as ever, she not only has aged well but can still transmit this transcendence to external beauty, the mistery and even attraction to her character. Although the characters' interconnections were well developed I felt had to took off 2 stars only because I didn't see the complicity and synchronization of both main characters- don't know if this was done on purpose or as a way of leaving you with the sensation of death coming before this interconnection sets in as sometimes real death does , but for me I guess I just miss that feeling of completeness too much .. movie is definitely worth re-watching.
Props for some shots and the frame scenery ... that was basically the only part - besides that plot is very weak , discussions have no substances and the character who is supposed to be "funny" plainly gives douchbag vibes (he even had a Karen hairstyle) and what's up with the conversations with no substance? .. maybe my expectations were too high as I was waiting to see a film as in "perfect strangers" that would absorb you into the conversation and discover the secrets piece by piece ... this thing instead has an ending that is completely out of sense and disconnected even from the whole previous scenes .. nice shots of the landscape and the hallmark images of the perfect blonde couple holding hands .. nothing against that but even in that it lack subtleness.
Otherwise it gets too long - love the mixing of death/birth/marriage issues and specially the bonding a shared secret can create.
