The historical inaccuracy was too glaring for me to think this a good film. Too many reviews slip into admiring the courage and dedication of the real crews of such ships but this is a film and should be treated as such. That a captain on, any voyage let alone his first, should have nose-to nose battles with several enemy submarines is simply absurd. U-boats were not there to do that but to sink merchant ships and they kept as far as possible from the escorts, not difficult in the Atlantic with slow merchant ships being protected by very few escorts. But Hollywood has to forgo accuracy for crowd pleasing action scenes. The dialogue consists basically of 'right rudder 20 degrees' etc so not much diversion there. And it all looks so cgi that you can't even look at the scenery.

I'm glad I only rented this at a discount price, and now I can see why it was discounted. Besson has some good films in his cv, though I was never that much of a fan of Subway and the like. This one has yet another beautiful Russian assassin doing what such people do. Lots of twists because the story needs lots to persuade us of its worth. The lead is a model and not an actress, like a few others I can think of.
