There's a reason Chelsea Handler has lasted so long as a woman in the world of standup comedy. She's irreverent and she's really funny. She doesn't tell jokes per se but her personal anecdotes of chance meetings and her and her family life ring very true and are laugh out loud funny.

She's open minded, since "liberal" seems to have become a dirty word and she makes no bones about being self deprecating. Do yourself a favour and get lost in her stories. It's an easy hour watch.

Although mostly personal stories she takes the odd swipe at politics here and there but this is far less about politics and far more about sharing anecdotes.

Saw the South African premiere last night and was utterly gobsmacked how Universal took a fantastic stage property that I saw on both Broadway and the West End and created such a flat, bland, colourless digital mess.

The vocals by Grande were well executed but the songs just didn't have the energy you feel with a live on stage performance. The script was dragged out, cliche ridden and quite frankly needed some really tight scissors to get things moving - this does not hold for its bloated 2 hour and 40 minute runtime at all.

This talk of Oscar nominations baffles me but maybe I'm just not the target market for this one when The Substance with Demi Moore was my favourite film of the year so far.

C'mon Hollywood make something engaging again and maybe take some notes from Richard 'O Brien of Rocky Horror fame when it comes to adapting stage to screen.

I'm sure I'll be in the minority with this film that felt it was bland and flat but it's an opinion nontheless.

This is a film that leaves to ponder way after the end credits - it's not just an exploitation piece it delves deep into the reality of getting older as a woman. The film in incredible well anchored by a powerhouse performance from Caroline Williams who really shines in a role tailor made for her.

This is how to make a low budget film correctly - eschew the visual effects for real character development, mood and drama. Do yourself a favour and check this one out, while the ending may feel slightly contrived for all that has gone before - it really is solid film-making.

Please can we see more of Caroline Williams anchoring films like this - she really is a great actress.
