It's sad that this film has so many negative reviews simply because the viewers don't realize what it actually is. This was fantastically and artfully done. I don't know why Andrew Doninik and Ana de Armas promoted this as a biography, it's not, and wasn't intended to be. This film is based on the biographical fiction novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates.
And boy does it have Oates written all over it.
If you haven't read any works by Joyce Carol Oates then you probably didn't understand this film and it's dark sexual and psychological overtures.
This film is unnerving and evokes a lot of emotional stress from the viewer. Dominick gives Darren Aronofsky a run for his money with this one and Ana delivers an outstanding performance allowing us a glimpse into the world of living with personality and psychotic disorders as well as what it's like to be a vulnerable and unstable woman alone to be devoured by cruel world.

Brave New World is one of my favorite books, I've been hoping someone would make a reputable film based on the book and when I saw this I was excited. I should have known. 1:44 into it I knew they were going to make Lenina more of a protagonist than she is. In trying to be "progressive" the writers completely miss the essence of the story and the warning it proffers. If you've never read, or have no affinity for the novel then it's a decent show, but if you're looking for a film adaptation that stays true to the story, this isn't it.
This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. My brother got it for Christmas and I've watched it at least once every day since. (ok a little obsessive, I know) I can't get enough of this movie. Each actor did a great job, but the one that really stands out it is good old Johnny D, his portrayol of Capt. Jack Sparrow is what makes this such a great film. The character is funny, charming, and witty. My recommendation is to go out and buy the DVD. It has a whole CD of special features that are just as good as the film. I rate this movie 9/10.
