I have mixed feelings about this movie. I spent 2 hours watching it to see the result of the recent social media controversy. And the result is, it's not a bad drama adaptation. Why do I say that? Let me break it down.
Firstly, as a romance comedy, the movie is quite successful. However, the acting from some characters feels forced and unnatural. The only thing I can praise is the comedy. They're serious about making it funny, incorporating Indonesian-style comedy into the movie.
Although it's an adaptation, they managed to add some local humor. However, most of the comedy feels instant and relies on comedic relief characters. The chemistry between the lead characters is completely off, especially with Abidzar's portrayal, which doesn't match the webtoon or K-drama.
Ariel Tatum and Abidzar don't match at all in terms of acting. It feels like there's a gap between them that makes their interactions less believable.
Honestly, this movie isn't bad. Rating it 1/10? Come on, be realistic. At least give it 5/10 for its funny comedy.

I'm going to break down my review of "Pengantin Setan" based on my experience. I think we can all agree that this movie is terrifying, especially with its demon design and possession scenes. But unfortunately, it fails to fully utilize the potential of its decent opening story.
The first thing I really disliked was the overused and forced scoring music that plays in almost every transition. The soundtrack in this movie is unnecessarily loud and honestly feels like garbage. And it's not just during the jump scares, the loud background music appears in random moments too. This really took me out of the experience and made it hard to enjoy the movie.
Story-wise, there are too many unclear elements, even though the plot had decent potential. Even an important character like the husband is wasted, he just disappears for days without any clear explanation while his wife is stuck in a terrifying situation. The horror potential of the creepy "boneka Mampang" was also completely wasted; they just abandoned it without doing much.
As for the ending, I appreciate that they managed to create a scary moment without relying on jump scares. But I wasn't a fan of how the story wrapped up, it felt too simple. Maybe that's just how religion-themed horror movies tend to be, but in this case, it felt too basic.

A movie that made me laugh and cry at the same time. In this film, I was genuinely brought to tears just by a single line, not some over-the-top crying scene. The ending is the moment of truth, and that final touch wraps everything up so beautifully.
For those who haven't watched it yet, let me sum it up in one word: BEAUTIFUL. The storytelling is just so captivating. And when it comes to cinematography, it doesn't disappoint either, there are so many breathtaking shots. The director's genius in using wide and zoom lenses makes the film even more visually stunning.
Man, the part that completely blew my mind was the wall being torn down. You might not notice it at first, but it hit me hard. Throughout the movie, that broken wall felt out of place, like it didn't belong. But once I realized its meaning in the ending, I was beyond amazed, this is the brilliance of the writer.
And the music!! That's the best part. The soundtrack fits perfectly, simple yet so on point. Sal Priadi might just become my new favorite musician.
Massive props to all the actors, your performances were incredible, and no one missed a beat. And to Yandy Laurens, please don't stop making beautiful films like this.
