This show is an interesting mix of factual information and woo-hoo nonsense. The parts of the program that covered actual factual events, the victims, their families, the killer(s), and the lack of engagement from law enforcement were interesting to any true crime fan. However, the show dips into alleged psychics, bad energy, ghosts, and whoo-hoo nonsense far too often. True crime does not mix well with this kind of nonsense and it throws off the throw of the show to the point I could not finish all the episodes and instead just fast-forwarded through the bull-slingers and their monetized nonsense. This includes the new owner of the property and the weirdos who pretend they are ghost hunting. I recommend you do the same.
This show is boring to a fault. The actors are adequate but the plot line is simplistic and lacks punch. Episode after episode it dawns on you that this really is a show about nothing. A couple wants to gentrify a small town while they make money from a potential television show and that is all there is too it. It is hard to care about the characters so the small issues they run into, mostly of their own making, fall flat. The overall effect is boredom. It is all exposition an no rising tension, climax, or anything that drives you to care about the show or keep watching it. If anything, the main characters are so shallow and frivolous, that you keep watching hoping something bad will happen to them. But, here again, there is only disappointment.
The main issue with this film is that there are no characters to cheer for. The characters are one-dimensional and irritating. It is as if whoever casts reality television wrote this script and forgot to add the good guy/girl. Instead what you get is forgettable characters, angry jocks, mean girls, and one girl who goes into shock seeing a dead animal. Oh, and the angry jock was idling his truck in freezing weather without having the heat on. These are not the academic kinds of college kids. Less than half an hour in, I was cheering for people to start dying. They do, but it takes too long. Sadly not all of them die, which is disappointing.
