What do you get when you throw Convoy, Heavy Metal, Three Stooges in Outer Space with a dash of Anime sensability into a cosmic blender, hit puret, then pour into a warm cup of Dennis Hopper? Space Truckers! A wacky sci-fi adventure that dials the cheese meter to just the right frequency to keep us laughing while we ogle at the impressive hand crafted quality of the special effects. The script is outrageous as it equally pokes fun at, while embracing, such sci fi conventions as the crusty space hauler with a heart of gold, the plucky space waitress with a heart of gold, the rookie space jockey with a heart of gold and the dread space pirate with the cybernetic genitalia. The cyber-what? The special effects are great and the designs are all over the map. The Killer Androids look like they were stolen from some other, better movie. Watching this will remind you of so many sci-fi classics and some not so classic flicks. along with the films mentioned above I saw echoes of Time Bandits, Aliens, Barbarella, Predator, Battle Beyond the Stars, and Citizen Kane(just kidding)

I just picked up this little gem on DVD. If you are a fan of 1980's era car chase flicks then this a fun, cheesy ride. While not as gritty as the legendary GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS(a true classic of outlaw filmaking,) this one boasts slicker production values and the World's Record for most vehicles wrecked in a movie. Full of thrilling stunts, gratuitous car crashes, sexy eighties ladies and a prize winning pig. By the way, the DVD is great. Great picture and lots of bonus footage(A peak at H.B. Halecki's car and toy collection is a treat.) Have fun.

This is the grandmaster of 1970's era car chase flicks. A gritty, low budget, heist picture with plenty of afros, muscle cars and handlebar mustaches that also happens to sport the most exciting, realistic forty minute car chase ever captured on film. When I say realistic what I mean is that the stunts and crashes are logical events in the chase without being gratuitous. No outlandish flips or zany jumps over grand canyons; just speed and plenty of it. The cars behave as they would in the real world. Often, a major crash sequence is followed by a scene with emergency vehicles tending to fiery wrecks and injured motorists caught in the mayhem, adding to the sense of danger. I believe some of the stunts were even shot illegally. The scene, shot from an overpass, showing the legendary H.B. Halecki shooting across four lanes of Long Beach freeway, missing the offramp and taking out a streetlight is a perfect example of outlaw filmaking. One gets the impression that one take was all they were going to get. Moments like that are what make this flick a classic of the genre. Other, more well known chases of the period don't hold a candle to this one. Also, skip the recent remake. The original blows it off the road.
