The characters were nothingorectjan script readers. Flat, emotionless, and illogical. This was supposed to be a thrilling love story. Or perhaps it should have delved into the sport of tennis. That would have given the storyline more credibility. When Zendaya was playing a match, she was horrible! She looked uncoordinated and certainly she did not have the physique and muscle tone of a tennis player. So she was unbelievable in her role, but so were the male characters. A totally forgettable movie. It was boring and the biggest challenge was watching the entire movie to the end to see if any life was breathed into this dead-man walking film. I generously gave it a 3-star because the actors didn't die before the end...but that may have been an improvement!
This movie took turns o could not have foreseen, so while the plot was engaging, I became less empathetic to the character Neal. He is a flawed, narcissistic, self- absorbed person. The more developed his character is clarified, the less I liked Neal. And this is the crux and result of the twists and turns in the plotline. Watch the ending! Neal is not the person you think he is. And that's too bad. I wanted to be empathetic to him. But he makes that impossible when you see the decisions he makes, and the impact he has on Perla's life. He does not take responsibility for his actions. I did not expect that.
