There is a scene in Snyder's Man Of Steel that exemplifies everything that would eventually go wrong with Superman. (Small spoiler for MoS) Before donning the cape, Clark is working at a bar. A drunken bully decides to give him crap and Clark tries to play it cool. He finally rage-quits the job after silently tolerated the drunk's abuse. Later, when the drunk leaves, he finds his truck impaled on telephone poles. Now, I will admit that I initially laughed at that scene, along with everybody else. But I quickly realized that Superman wouldn't pull of such a stunt. It's passive-aggressive boyman crap. It's weak. And I am pleased to see that version of Superman is finally gone. Now we have a hero again; a man who stands for something and fights against evil, no matter how it tries to disguise itself. To be honest I've grown weary of the superhero flicks, and only went to see this one after reading some reviews. But I am glad I did. And I am glad to see a real Superman again, instead of a brooding self-possessed guy with powers who doesn't seem to have any real mission in life. (Admitting here that I gave this film a higher score because of its statement... You know what I mean.)

From classic to ok, with a particularly hackneyed cliff hanger. Joel's arc was surprising and a respectably challenging commitment from the show. I don't know if it was the same in the game but as a plot point it was an effective shock. But otherwise, this was a pretty weak second season. A whole lot of deus-ex-machina moments. Much of Ellies love interest felt a little forced and ill-timed in the story. And that is not because Bella couldn't carry the tale. It was the writing, imo. All the elements that made me love season 1 were gone. It felt like a Walking Dead knock-off. Though I must admit it was beautifully filmed. But season 1 concluded with all the through story resolved and still I was eager for season 2. Season 2 ended with a manipulative and transparent attempt to generate interest in season 3, and that backfired. Because I kinda don't care anymore. Seriously, guys.... wtf was that? 1st season was an easy 8 but I would have gone 9 on a subjective level. Now it's a 7... and deserves a 6 for the ending.

I have never seen anything like this. It's a 10/10 just for the way it was shot but, man, there is so much more to this than style. The last episode is the most dramatic gut-wrenching thing I have seen in a long time... maybe ever. Raw Real. Performed with a dramatic potency that might be unrivaled. Ok, I just finished it, literally... the credits just finished rolling and Stephen Graham's closing performance is still fresh and that song is still in my ears, so maybe I'm gushing a bit. But that last episode was as close to perfect in performance and direction and concept as anything gets. This is a must watch. Magnificent tragedy. Thank you to everyone involved in the production of this series. Beautiful.
