In every sense this short is an absolute gem. It reveals something very real
about humanity. Jorgen Leth is technically a masterful director, who has never created an overly impressive feature, but this film exemplifies our obsessions with our self and the image we create for ourself in order to reach some kind of true perfection. The woman is beautiful and the actor takes this simple script and inevitably makes him seemlessly leap off the screen into the mind of the viewer. The most pertinent and important scene is a scene where he eats, the beauty
and grace in which he eats his food stays true with the viewer. Lars Von Trier criticizes his mentor Jorgen Leth, for embodying his image of perfection. Thus he lives a lone in Haiti in his depression, but his artistic touch in this film shows how human Leth is and how humanity can be embodied in absolute perfection.

I just watched this film at the New York Film Festival, and it is one of the most physical films I've seen over the course of my life. The main story and themes of human nature all center around a beautiful message about the greed and corruption of America. Nichole Kidman and Paul Bettanny give the performances of their life and make this simple story a cinematic masterpiece.
One of the finest films I've seen in years, and my pick for the best movie of the year. The Brazilian film City of God is a dazzling portrayal of the violent Rio De Janeiro slum `Cidade de Deus', which ironically translates to the City of God. In this terrible world of violence, we see the story of how crime progressed through the eyes of our protagonist the aspiring photographer Rocket. Amazingly, the film spans decades, and shows many intertwining stories, which could stand alone as great films. Fernando Mareilles created this movie exclusively with untrained actors from the village, and their real emotions make the movie that much more powerful. This visually stunning film, with incredible camera tricks not only amazes you with the cinematography, but with the strong ultra violent and ultra sexual themes caused by this drug culture. The crime saga is told in the same way Goodfellas is and in many ways just as brilliantly. The violence is as powerful as any movie since Apocalypse Now and watching this masterpiece gives you a very new outlook on the potential of modern film.
