I really wanted to like the series. The characters are very interesting and the first episode had some lol moments but tbh it's not a comedy and that's what I wanted.

It definitely has potential to be a profound show but this trend of switching/bending comedies into hard core drama is being over done imo (and has been for years).

Sometimes people just want to have a laugh and skip the deeper issues.

If you're wanting a deep thinker; give it a go but if you're wanting a comedy then move on.

Lastly, let me reiterate again: IMDB PLEASE STOP FORCING US TO WRITE SUCH LONG REVIEWS! I literally just applied for a job that required fewer characters as a letter of introduction!

I get what they were going for but it was poorly executed. I was absolutely willing to give this series an 8-9 up until the ending (which if you just use a bit of logic - did not add up at all).

I've heard others making similar criticisms and I can't go into details without giving spoilers, but it was a logistical nightmare.

Having said the cast performed brilliantly and I think Kevin Cline deserves an Emmy for his performance.

I wish I could give you a recommendation on whether you should watch this series or not, but don't say I didn't warn if you finish the series asking questions and wondering, well if x happened then y doesn't make any sense.

I bought this DVD box set on sale from Sam Goody or FYE or something like that 20 years ago. It turns out it's one of the best animes you've never seen it still holds up 20 years later and is still one of my favorites they don't make them like this anymore. It's an absolute emotional roller coaster. There are only a few animes. I would consider more devastating than this. One being grave of the fireflies. 2 being Saikano and three being Pluto. I ended up paying about $80 for this off of eBay and it was worth every penny. You're probably never going to see this on any streaming service so if you want to watch it, just buy it and it's gonna cost you.
