When I see these reviews I'm beginning to doubt that I've even watched the same movie as the other reviewers have.
I'm of the belief that you don't need a lot of money to make a good movie, so I don't think this movie has an excuse for being so poorly made.
The problem areas are EVERYTHING.
1. Bad acting 2. A storyline that doesn't make sense 3. Terrible props 4. Poorly conveyed message and storytelling 5. No consistency
To give you some example of the problems: 1. The character Morgan David disappears and reappears throughout the movie, he's nowhere to be found during the escape attempt, but he's on the subway when they have escaped. After that moment he never shows up again 2. The execution date isn't consistent. At one point they're like a week or two away from execution, then we jump forward 2 months - and everybody's alive. Peter and Miriam have a last moment together like 3 times throughout the movie, Peter tells Miriam not to cry since he's getting executed that night - but that doesn't happen.
3. There's a strict "no religion" policy enforced in that prison - except for the chapel that they have in prison, unbeknownst to Captain Tanu.
4. The handcuffs were made out of plastic
5. They have no consistency with their costumes. Some prisoners wear orange, others are dressed in tan jumpsuits, one has a blue collared shirt in one scene, one has an Hawaiian state ID shirt and cargo shorts. They all have different types of sneakers and puma/Nike socks.
6. A guy couldn't even be bothered to hide his bottle of coke in one of the chapel scenes.
7. One of the establishing shots of LA (I think) is animated with so few polygons that it looks like it was taken out of a PS1/PS2 game. Why not use stock footage like you did before???
The worst thing is that the story isn't enjoyable and that the message is poorly conveyed.
It feels like the editor had to finish cutting and editing the movie in 15 minutes since there are so many blatant mistakes and errors throughout the movie that are OBVIOUS to me who watched it for the first time.
It does NO favour to Christianity at all since it isn't explained or communicated well.
When Peter finds God he stares out in the distance in like 10 scenes to show his new found faith. What on earth is that for???
Why not take the time to explain the heartfelt journey of Jesus and how that made an impact on our main character and WHY.
My jaw is on the floor seeing how bad this is.
I see that some of the criticism this movie has gotten has been deflected with the reasoning that anti-Christians are downvoting for the theme alone, and I beg to disagree.
I'm not religious but I can certainly enjoy movies with a message that I personally don't believe in or agree with.
This could have been a very touching and heartfelt movie.
The story could have been interesting if the movie would have been produced by someone who actually cared.
This is a good idea that was really poorly executed.

There are two versions of this movie and I'm reviewing the Australian version, and boy do I have a few choice words to say. To say that it's confusing is an understatement, absolutely nothing makes sense. Everything feels out of order and the plot goes in directions you don't understand, you constantly feel like you've missed a very important scene.
The whole "meta" thing with representations doesn't work at all. Not one bit. It's just painful, really really painful. After about an hour of watching I thought I was near the end, because it felt like I had watched for an eternity - realised to my horror that I had another 50 to go.
I'd only recommend this movie to you if you want to let yourself suffer. The.

I love this movie, I really do. It's so incredibly badly made - the actors seem to regret even showing up on set throughout the entire movie. The chemistry is nill, zip, zero, nothing! The aids-speech is a scene to die for. The person who seriously wrote the script must have had a brain aneurysm or something, because it's really odd.
The movie has no stakes, and the motivations are very uncalled for. The knock-off Edward Cullen lead (who gets his blood from a blood bank!) has no charisma. He seems to be almost relieved when he's bound, and is to be burned at the stake by a group of Christians.
I'd recommend this to everyone. It really takes you for a ride, can it really be that bad? - Yes, yes it can!
