5 stars out of 10? If you read all the readers reviews, I believe everyone liked this movie (which goes to show you, don't count on the critics). It's the real people that need to review movies. Granted this isn't the type of movie that makes you think deeply about life, nor is the acting wonderful, but it's chock full of spoofs that will really pull you the first time you see it (or 2nd time). john ritter is excellent in this movie, so much in fact I would have loved to see a sequel (rather than those awful problem child movies). So glad to be seeing him back on TV, but he needs to try film again. This movie also makes you ponder the question (what is hell really like? Is it just a bunch of molten lava, or is it more personal? (granted it's probably not a bunch of TV shows, but I'm sure hell is torterous). If you haven't seen this, rent it!
When I saw previews, I'm like "hmm.. another hidden camera show, I guess I'll watch". Jamie kennedy is more than that. He's number 1. A master of disguise, 2. Very good at improv, he never stutters and always has a response for anything that comes up during the skits, and 3. He's said in interviews he just loves messing with people's psyche and seeing what their reaction is.. It really is amazing to watch people's reaction, I guess that's why hidden camera shows are so fun to watch. What makes his show a little bit more top notch is that he doesn't just go out on the street, he goes as far as setting up complete studio sets. The one where he's doing an informercial was the best. I'm sure if I was on the set I'd be duped too. There's even been times when he knows the people he's trying to 'X' know about the show, and he turns it around and pretends to be p****d off, in which they think it's real. I hope this show stays on for many seasons.
Many people question whether or not the show is true improv. They say "Oh, they rehearse something general beforehand, like they'll rehearse a scene about a pet, and then they go (give me a type of pet), and they just adjust a little bit". Being someone who actually went to a live version of wayne brady, I know this isn't true. They offered completely open subjects and did skits on it, which were all just as good as the show on ABC. I've loved wayne brady since way back when he was on that show "quick witz" that used to be on after SNL. What seperates this show from any other is that not only is it a true live audience (not a laugh track), but it's all made up so anything can happen (and it does). The show actually becomes funnier when they screw up.
