A good exploitation film that mixes the usual elements with voodoo and zombies. It was actually surprisingly light on the gore and violence and had zero nudity, but the story and the characters were interesting enough. The "eye" effects for the zombies made them stand out from other movies.
Baron Samedi almost stole the show from the beautiful Marki Bey . . . almost.
The grandmother from the Jeffersons, Charles Robinson from Night Court, Robert Quarry from Count Yorga and Richard Lawson (father of Bianca Lawson from Buffy-TVS) all star.

A widow (Angie Dickinson) consults a paranormal investigator when she is convinced that her dead husband is prowling the grounds of their estate. The irony of the situation is that the investigator (Roy Thinnes) David Norliss is preparing to write a book, based on his tapes (hence the name), that debunks and ridicules anything supernatural. They are both then drawn up into a world of voodoo, demons and murder for blood sacrifice. The scenes with the dead husband are chilling.
This movie kept me up as a child, and while it doesn't scare me now, it still holds up as a great horror teleplay. There is little filler, the atmosphere is excellent (mist and rain and winds), and the "monster" is quite frightening. Movie people should sit and watch this one and others from that era, so they could begin making real horror movies again.
