I really like Tracker in general, and I was very happy to see Bobby back in this episode. I missed him!
However, this episode was way too dark and disturbing for me. I ended up fast-forwarding through huge chunks of it. What really ticked me off is that they have probably ruined the song Shambala for me forever. That's one of the songs on my playlist that makes me feel happy and carefree every time I hear it.
There was a different show that used a great song in a creepy storyline, and I've never been able to listen to that other song since. I fast-forwarded through most almost all the scenes in this episode with Shambala playing, so maybe I'll be able to disassociate? Fingers crossed.
Still, use a creepy song no one likes anyway, or something really obscure. Don't ruin fun, happy music for everyone.
For now, I'll keep watching, but if the show starts getting darker, I'm out. I love the happy endings!
On a side note, another reviewer said they'd like the show to have more multi-episode story arcs. My husband and I are the opposite! We much prefer plots that are wrapped up in a single episode, and this show does a good job of that. Different strokes, I guess.

Mid-Century architecture and decor? Yes, please! Set in Palm Springs? Love it! Beloved actors? Of course!
I've watched through Episode 6, and while I like the show, I don't love it as much as I thought I was going to.
The first half of Episode 1 was painfully bad. I almost quit right there, but then the show gets better. As mentioned, I love the premise, the setting, and the actors, but the writing so far as not lived up to my expectations.
Having watched White Collar, where Matt Bomer's character is always 10 steps ahead of everyone else, it's hard to watch him in this role. I think and hope that the writers are working towards making "Jerry" less of a moronic caricature and more of a relatable character. Fingers crossed! I love Jerry's naivete, his positive outlook, and his faith. The part where he's dumb as a box of rocks? Not so much.
Nathan Lane and Linda Lavin are brilliant, as always (although the writing for Nathan's character could be less cheesy). I'm not as familiar with Nathan Lee Graham, but I like him a lot in this. His character and Linda Lavin's ring the most true so far.
Speaking of cheesy, the show REALLY needs to ditch the laugh track. It only detracts from the humor. I could do without the F*bombs, as well. In my broad life experience, people in the real world just don't talk like that. Think about all the classic comedies that managed to be wildly successful without the use of profanity. It just feels lazy and unimaginative on the part of the writers.

For the first 10 minutes of Episode 1, I was like - wait a minute, this isn't anything like the old Matlock. But then it hooks you. Yes, it's VERY different, but also exceptionally good. The new premise keeps us coming back for more. Kathy Bates is, of course, brilliant. I'd never seen Skye Marshall in anything before, but she's absolutely mesmerizing and luminous in this role. Throw in favorites like Beau Bridges, Jason Ritter, and Patricia Belcher, and you've got a winning cast to go with the clever and engaging writing. The rest of the supporting cast is wonderful as well.
And, this doesn't get mentioned often enough, but whoever is doing the set design and wardrobe is killing it! Sumptuous is the best word to describe these elements of the show. That deep teal color used in the clothes and decor is gorgeous!
All in all, one of the only 10s I've ever given in a review.
