I remember when "Mission Hill" debuted on the WB in '99 and I never watched it because I didn't think I'd care. However, recently Cartoon Network has started something called "Adult Swim", where every Saturday and Sunday they show more "adult" cartoons. Not necessarily sex and violence filled, but mostly just cartoons that are actually funny rather than the garbage that is out there now for kids. Anyway, in their Sunday night line-up is "Mission Hill" and it's quite possibly one of my favorite adult-oriented cartoons. It never fails to make me laugh and it's written like a very good sitcom. The voice acting is perfectly normal without sounding too "cartoony", but at the same time it contrasts with the animation so that you never forget you are indeed watching a cartoon and that you shouldn't take it too seriously. The characters are well-developed and it's just overall a very hilarious show.

Well, I wasn't too optimistic when I first tuned into another WB show, but I was pleasantly surprised. Michael Rosenbaum who plays Lex Luthor is absolutely Lex down to the marrow in his bones, however he isn't channeling Gene Hackman one bit. He makes the character his own. Tom Welling is also surprisingly a good actor despite his "pretty boy" status. Annette O'Toole, who played Lana Lane in the original Superman movie does an excellent role reversal as Clark's "Ma" and Jon Sneider does an equally convincing job as the tough but gentle farmer Jonathan Kent. All in all, this show isn't bad. Sometimes, I'll admit that it's occasionally over-acted and slightly corny, but there are way too many redeeming qualities to over-shadow those occurances. I hope to see this show on air for a little while at least. This is the first time in a long time that I've gotten really excited about a series. I would say I miss "Buffy", but in the end, the show became so far-fetched and stagnant, that it's move to UPN didn't hurt my feelings one bit.
