  • During which Clinton Administration was this made?

As I recall this film was completed in 1995! I tried to watch it earlier tonight but it's so horrifically dated. Just because people throw the music you like into a movie doesn't mean it's a good movie. Please, apply some critical thinking here people. This is an absurd attempt to cash in by ex-scenesters who are, in all likelihood, now in nursing homes. I really wish that us xedgex kids, as a culture, who instead embrace things that mattered instead of things that pandered to our sometimes limited worldview. Call me crazy but Lebanon getting bombed is more important than your friend getting bombed. Open your eyes and pursue real art, not this drivel! P.S. WOULD IT HAVE KILLED YOU PEOPLE TO LIGHT THIS THING DECENTLY!?

  • a nice little discovery

Let's be frank...short films tend to be, how can I be I say this...pretentious, self-important, poorly constructed, pitifully executed, you could go on and on but I'll spare you. If you've ever wandered by a film festival, you're nodding your head right now. Since we are now on the same page, let's delve into today's oddity "Schrodinger's Cat(sic)".

Directed by, what I suppose from the credits, not from the talent, as the talent, which I'll address, is all very well and good and definitely not on a "student film"(sorry guys) level, by two film students of Chapman College, Schrodinger's Cat(sic) is an exercise in hard science with a tinge of twilight zone marinated in a thick broth of Being John Malkovich (stay with me, it gets better). The script takes what could be a mundane conceit: that a man shifts dimensions as he decides the threads of his life have added up to nothing but a penny in his hand (literally, figuratively, you name it, they've got it nailed). The (short) film is successful marriage of comedy, drama, suspense, as well as a divorce without bitterness or custody issues from all things that could render it pretentious or banal.

Now, the story is about science, and those without a scientific bend should be forewarned but not discouraged. It's very technical at times, but still takes time to include side-splitting comedy that had me rolling in the aisles, had I been sitting in an aisle seat, that is. It is more about life in all of its quirks (or should I say "Quarks") and absurdities than a dissertation of physics.

You gotta come out for student short films, for there lies the seed of the trees that will shade the yearnings of our entertainment culture for years to come (whew, that's a mouthful). If this plays at a festival near you, as it did near me, see it and recommend it to your peers.
