Undoubtedly this is a well made movie but... why does it have to be so heavy and dark?

"La ville est tranquille" means the town is quiet, but every character suffers and looks unhappy. All kinds of problems are there: prejudice against immigrants, unenployment, solitude, drugs, murder, prostitution, boredom.

We are led to believe les marseillais changed "liberté, egalité, fraternité" for misery, hopelessness and solitude.

The only sweet moments in the movie are when people are making music. Beyond music there's no salvation? I doubt it. Art helps a lot, but it's not enough. We need hope, love, good sense, and books, and movies which give them to us.

Forget Marseille! Come to Rio! Here we have violence, drugs and poverty but we can dance, sing and laugh (at least at ourselves...)

I saw this movie with my husband. I'm catholic, he is an atheist. I was moved by the film. He felt nothing; at least he kept saying it many times.

Although, we both agreed there was an amazing good job done: great acting (specially by Jim Caviezel, Pilatos, Peter, roman soldiers and high priests), the ancient languages spoken, Aramaic and Latin, scenarios, sounds, clothes; all took us to Jerusalem, 33 AD.

The flagellation scene is brutal, indeed. But it's Mel Gibson view. And it helps us to remember how much Jesus believed in us. He thought we were worthwhile...

Nobody must fear anything about this movie. After all, the man and woman Christians love the most are both Jews!

Such a pity! It's not possible to buy this movie anymore. I read all Angelique's adventures (there are 14, I guess) on account of this film. I showed the movie to my teenager french niece and she loved it! We can learn a lot about french history,human feelings and have great fun altogether. Find it in your local video store and enjoy romance and adventure...
