  • Better then the others

As the resident viewer of less then oscar-worthy movies, I think that this movie was like the precedent for all those movies where the guy tries to be a girl or a girl tries to be a guy. Out of all of those really stupid movies with stupid dialogue and plenty of excuses for guys to go into a girl's locker room/slumber party without getting caught, "Just one of the Guys" actually tries, and sometimes succeeds in presenting believable characters, somewhat real situations, and the audience pulls for the heroine. Again, it's very very not an "Adult" movie, and you probably won't enjoy it if you are of drinking age, but it's a good party movie, for a bunch of girls that are sitting in their pajamas, eating ben and jerry's, crying about How lonely they are. I mean, the music is awful- but I was really left with a good feeling.

  • Ambitious

Everything about "Bottle Rocket" was ambitious. The film making was ambitious, the characters were ambitious. While I can't say this was a religious experience, Bottle Rocket was a good independent film, and I do recommend it. I was lucky it was on IFC, but I plan on renting it again just to catch the dialogue. The way that the characters take their "crimes" so seriously is so fun to watch. Everyone seemed to be playing pretend, almost. When Dignan talks about his plans for a heist, you almost wonder when mom is going to call him in for supper. I truly enjoyed the acting of everyone, especially the Wilsons. I have a problem with the way Luke Wilson delivers his lines, he's effective and believable enough, but there is something in his speech patterns that annoys me. Anyway, I also enjoyed the music in this film! Every song seemed to hit the right mood- especially when Anthony and Ines are together. I thought some parts dragged on a little but it was worth it to catch the themes in this movie- the difference between the "reality" of Futureman and his friends, and the "reality" of the gang. Some of the best movie lines were in "Bottle Rocket". "He said to me, 'Even though you are a F**k up, you're still my brother.' That touched me" or when James Caan says (more or less) "I hope you aren't offended when I say, your brother's a C**kSucker." and then everyone in the room laughs. I plan on telling all of my friends to see "Bottle Rocket."

  • Innovative for the 80's

What I mean to say, is that Die Hard is one of those movies that set a precedent. The whole movie successfully blended a story line with action, (something that most action movies can't accomplish.) How refreshing to find that even the damsel-in-distress, (who isn't a supermodel in any way,) has the chance to throw a few punches. And the audience actually wants the police and the FBI to die, because they aren't the good guys. Die Hard is the reason why action movies sell, the way Scream is the way teen movies sell. Every twist in the plot was exciting, the action scenes were exhilerating, and the script was good enough- there was none of the lines that make you laugh out loud or say "Come on! They wouldn't really say that!" Not Oscar, but an awesome rental.
