The talented Benito Skinner not only stars, but also created and wrote this college campus comedy about being chameleons in one's peer social surroundings in order to survive the humiliation of being a nobody freshie. In Benny's case, he is gay, and in this day and age he attempts to hide it under the facade of a high school football star from Ohio (or was it Idaho?) Nevertheless, Benny has a hard time coming out, and along the way he befriends another freshie, Carmen, who together navigate their new world in an overblown send-up of college life and all the ridiculous situations that come with it, but with an emotional depth that surprises with each episode...
Comedy sketches with a brutal dark and twisted edge that at first seems to throw you off kilter (even idioms are not safe in this series), where you are not sure what the hell you are watching. Then bang! You find yourself in the gutter, staring up to the absurdity as the senses adapt to the crudeness factor, and laughter surrounds your madness. Yes, it is that kind of brutal show, where nothing is sacred, and everything is in firing range. These are jokes, but the visual kind that work a treat and will challenge your perspective on comedians and the bad thoughts that go through their minds. Not for the easily offended, but a bonus for Tom Segura fans...
The aftermath of the early period in the French revolution, as Napoléon Bonaparte proves to be no different than the previous royal dictators who continued with corruption to suppress the people with poverty. In the thick of it was the legendary chef, Antonin Carême (the superb Benjamin Voisin), who was forced to participate in the dirty political games in order to survive and save his step-father. The amazing food that Carême creates to appease the powers-that-be looks amazing, as does the production values in this fascinating thriller during a historical time of political upheaval and social unrest, where believe it or not some of France's culinary delights were born...
