This movie is a disappointment. The story line isn't up to the usual Raoul Walsh pictures. The main player in the picture was very dry and dull. Poor Linda Darnell didn't live up to her usual billing. Irene Ryan was funny. But her role was very horrible. William Bendix turns in a good performance with the script he was given. Keith Andes was very disappointing. It seems he's not comfortable at all. The main character Blackbeard (Robert Newton) lines was crisp nor was dry and very boring. The lighting in the picture was extremely poor. Making the color very dull. You can see RKO executives of the time should have been shot for releasing this sinking ship of a movie.
Looking at all of Joan Fontaine movies. You see the dedication she puts into her performances. I believe she was more disciplined in her method of acting. In The Constant Nymph she really gives a top performance of her career. Her and Charles Boyer really give us a exciting time. I was on the edge of my seat with the storyline. Alexis Smith whom I have always admired really turns out a stellar performance. Charles Coburn a season actor in his own right. Gives the movie flavor and excitement. I will miss Joan Fontaine with her dramatic acting and her on point performances. The Constant Nymph is a treasure to admire for many years. I really was so shocked how good this film is and this was Joan's favorite of all time.
The greatest generation. This movie shows the struggle during WWII. The struggle for love and togetherness. Times were great, people were sincere and generous. Families stuck together during the threat of adversity. Eleanor Parker and Dennis Morgan are great examples of love and devotion. The excitement of meeting and enjoying our freedom in a time of war. Seeing children play our families enjoying a Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner. Our troops had to fight for our freedom and way of life. This B movie shows woman working in factories. In all this movie will give future generations how we struggled to enjoy the normal life of love and family. And how our veterans secured our freedom and our way of life today.
