The main character, Claire, is just a mystery. We never know what she feels, what she thinks. She wants to escape but surrenders to her pimp. She wants a real life. Is she going to find it in the last escape? What is true about her: What she tells her boyfriend? What her pimp says about her? Kerrigan's camera films her life - all her life - coldly, without any, or so little room for sentiments or feelings. He films NYC the same way he films Claire. Emptiness is everywhere, oppressing... Great movie! We need more daring directors like Kerrigan.

This movie is really boring. Everything is so slow, dark, depressing. The family in itself could be interesting: 3 totally different women living under the same roof. The two sisters are both self destructive in their own way. This story might have been in great book, but the movie isn't. The acting isn't even very good - Bonnaire and Beart are far from being at their best! Go only if you like Ouessant's wild landscapes...

Sandrine Kimberlain is good in this movie, her character fits her really well. The whole movie is her quest, she tries to find something that is probably inside her. We don't really know if she'll someday find it but there is a little hope. Feelings and sentiments are very powerful. The characters are all so different that it gives a reality to the movie, even if Kimberlain's character is sometimes hard to comprehend. I could accept her actions and reactions even if I would act and react differently.
