The quality is quite poor since it's a musical stage adaptation of Dr. Seuss children's book. It was first performed at the world renowned Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was Julee Cruise's first production too but you can barely see her or most of the cast. I guess they didn't expect it to air on YouTube. Technology was limited in 1980 so you have to expect it. Wendy Lehr did a fine job as Mrs. Cubbins. A young actor named John Peitzman did an admirable job playing Bartholomew Cubbins. The cast did a good job and the production is less than 79 minutes. It's broken into three parts on YouTube.
Almanac airs an hour weekly on PBS in the Twin Cities. It's a must in understanding Minnesota and the Twin Cities. Cathy Wurzer and Eric Eskola are the hosts and moderators. They feature segments on the latest news. Mary Lahammer covers the Capital beat in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There are interviews with local politicians as well. They cover sports, culture, weather, health and more. It's worth watching this series if you want to know about Minnesota. They close out the series with musical acts. They feature a political round table of political analysts from both parties. There are regular guests and humor too. Every episode is different than the rest.
It is easy to forget this film. You can see how Ryan Reynolds went from this forgettable film to being a big movie star though. Maybe that's one of the redeeming qualities of this largely forgettable film loosely based on the Shelley novel of Frankenstein. Great casting included Shelley Duvall and Judge Reinhold as Frank Stein's parents. Matthew Laurence played Frank Stein, a good high school student who gets mixed up. Ryan Reynolds played the oddball student who becomes Frankenstein's monster. The plot is a bit problematic. When you choose to ignore the obvious problems with the script, you can enjoy the film. Shelley Duvall was great in it as Frank's mother.
