I have seen thousands of movies and I have never used this word to describe one. Frank Griebe-the cinematographer-has shot one of the most breathtaking films I have ever seen. The colors just pop out at you, especially on the lilac field and the face of Rachel Hurd-Wood. Not to mention the nude bodies that are prevalent throughout the film. If you appreciate the art of cinematography you owe it to yourself to see this film. As far as the story goes, it is very twisted-but funny-and sticks closely-perhaps too closely-to the style of the book. And it takes a certain state of mind to enjoy it; that is, you have to allow yourself to be caught up in the flow of the story and not take things literally. The combination of broad comedy and harsh reality can be jarring, and some of its elements can be offensive, but if you suspend your sense of morality and go along with it you will have a fun ride.

Hey, Straw, if you read this-get this out on DVD. I love this movie! It is funny and twisted and Necrocomedies are sorely in short supply in this sad world. I have been a big fan since it first appeared in video stores almost 20 years ago. I was casually glancing through the New Releases-not expecting much-when my unbelieving eyes saw this movie. I could not believe it-finally some brave auteur made a heart warming romantic comedy starring a necrophiliac. I salute you. I own a VHS copy of this, but I want a DVD to add to my collection. Have you tried?
