This may turn out to be the best tv series of 2025. The acting, the screenplay, the characters - there's not a single thing wrong with The Residence. It's a fantastic comedy and a well-plotted, masterfully crafted mystery. There are no stock characters, amazingly; and whoever chose the cast for this series deserves recognition. Do yourself a favor and watch The Residence.
Few of the actors in this huge cast are familiar to me; the ones I know well are Ken Marino, Jason Lee ("My Name Is Earl"), Al Franken, and Jane Curtain. Kylie Minogue, Dana Bash, and Jake Tapper play themselves.
Uzo Aduba, who plays Detective Cupp, is an actress I'll look for from here on. She was brilliant. But then, the entire cast was phenomenal. Thanks to Netflix for this series, a masterful political comedy/mystery that will surely become a classic.

There are so many things wrong with this film. The characters have no redeeming features, the dialogue (such as it is) adds nothing. Hilariously, whenever someone covered in blood and obviously in distress appears out of nowhere, the reaction of the bewildered - not shocked, not alarmed - onlooker is to approach the bleeding victim and say, "Are you okay?" The family members eschew the logical idea of finding a weapon for protection. Instead, they wander around in slow motion, gasping repeatedly. For some reason the cars won't start, the phones won't work. Usually when this is the case, there's a good reason - they're far too away from civilization, or there's an intelligent bad person who's messed with all the car engines. Not likely here.
The acting is dreadful. As Dorothy Parker said about Katherine Hepburn, "She runs the gamut of emotions from A to B." That would be this cast.

The first two JOHN WICK films were fun to watch, the third much less so. But this fourth was just ghastly. I can suspend disbelief up to a point, especially when it comes to action movies - I mean there's only so much physical abuse a body can get and still move - but this was an enormous waste of time. The last half hour was absolutely stupid beyond belief. At first it was funny, but after awhile it was just insipid and unwatchable. I can't stress strongly enough just how terrible this film is.
I'm not sure what accounts for the shockingly high ratings for this film; I hope my own low score of this disaster that I've posted here lowers the average even a little. I can understand a fan base approving practically anything Keanu Reeves appears in, but really, y'all, this film is a parody of action filmmaking.
