Madhurima Tuli is now putting her best foot forward quite literally, as the actress is now learning the classical Kathak dance and learning pretty well. Showing her desire to learn the dance, the actress posted a video of herself doing some Kathak moves.

As part of both relaxing as well as learning something new, Madhurima regarding her wanting to learn the classical dance said that learning isn’t really age-dependent.

Elaborating on this, the ‘Chandrakanta’ actress said: “I have always believed that learning isn’t age-specific. Right from childhood, I have been a dancing enthusiast.”

The actress added: “As far as classical dance is concerned, I have learnt Odissi for the longest time and completely fell in love with it. Kathak was also on the cards for a long time. I am glad that it finally started. I am definitely looking forward to learning more.”

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) today announced the nine films nominated for this year’s Best Asian Film award.

This is the second year Aacta has presented the award, which forms the foundation for the organisation’s Asia International Engagement Program. The award is meant to recognise the calibre of films from the Asian region and their growing popularity in Australasia and around the world – Asian films have contributed $36 million to the Aussie box office in the last 12 months.

Birmingham made history on Saturday 12th May by hosting the biggest Punjabi awards ceremony, which took place in the UK for the first time. BritAsia TV, the UK’s leading, homegrown Asian entertainment channel, hosted the inaugural Punjabi Film Awards, presented by Metatron Global Fund at the International Convention Centre (Icc), welcoming a dazzling guest list of the leading names in Punjabi film and entertainment.

The ceremony was hosted by Punjabi superstar, Jasmine Sandlas, who also performed during the evening alongside Harrdy Sandhu, Sharry Mann, UK born Gurj Sidhu and Sunanda Sharma. The London Indian Film Festival (Liff) has come a long way in the years since its inception. Now in its 8th edition, there’s no sign of it slowing down in its quest to showcase the best of independent Indian film making.

In fact, choosing The Black Prince could be seen as the festival showing its almost punkish ethos by beginning with a film that recalls a little-known story set around the time of the first Anglo-Sikh War. As a Brit myself, it certainly made for slightly uncomfortable viewing in parts.

The story concerns the last King of Punjab, Duleep Singh, a boy who is crowned at the age of five but the invading British and treachery by in-fighting factions lead to him being denied his birthright. Duleep is rescued by Colonel Hurbon, a trusted General in the boy’s father’s army. Subsequently he’s taken to England where...

A pleasantly warm Thursday evening on the 22nd June saw some of the cast of The Black Prince, along with other Indian celebrities and film-makers, turn out at the BFI Southbank for the screening of what turned out to be a well-received opening film of the London Indian Film Festival.

Despite technical hitches which looked in danger of scuppering the red carpet event entirely, the parade of talent was only too keen to pose for pictures and talk excitedly about their roles in the movie. The story arc follows Duleep Singh, crowned at the age of five to be the Maharajah of the Sikh Empire only for treachery to rob him of his throne. The Black Prince, an historical drama based upon the true story of Maharajah Duleep Singh, the boy who became king of Punjab shortly before it was annexed to the British empire, was awarded the Special Jury Remi Award today at the 50th annual WorldFest International Film Festival in Houston. The event’s Gold Remi was also awarded to the film’s Natalie O’Connor for achievement in Art Direction.

Majarajah Duleep Singh was exiled by the British to a privileged life in England when he was only 15 years old, and was shortly thereafter converted to Christianity. Reuniting with his long-lost mother after more than a decade, Duleep begins a daring journey of self-discovery in order to reclaim his faith and the kingdom that is rightfully his. His struggle inspired Sikhs to continue their fight for freedom until India regained its independence from British Imperialism in 1947, and the Sikh kingdom was divided into India and Pakistan.

Acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi has joined the cast of Hollywood’s The Black Prince, a film telling the tragic yet fascinating true story of Maharaja Duleep Singh the last King of the Sikh Empire in Punjab. Son of the powerful ruler Ranjit Singh, he was born in 1838 and placed on the throne at the age of 5 after the death of his father. In 1849, when Punjab was annexed to British India, the young prince was removed from the throne and eventually sent off to England. His attempts to return to India and reclaim his kingdom were thwarted by the British. He ended up a pauper, dying alone in a Paris hotel in 1893.

Co-produced by Brillstein Entertainment Partners executive Jai Khanna, the drama will be directed by Kavi Raz and features the acting debut of acclaimed singer-poet Satinder Sartaaj.
