On such beautiful island, the green grass hills, ocean blue and white sand beach, there are middle school kids who practice for a chorus competition. Brings me back to those days in school chorus group, it was not only a good excuse to skip self-study session, but also an exciting chance to get to know friends from different grades and classes, not to mention the pride to perform on stage with a group of interesting and talented peers. On the age of 15, we couldn't help to laugh harder or cry louder, everything felt so intense in those young hearts.

HAVE A SONG ON YOUR LIPS (2015) An embittered piano player (Yui Aragaki) with a tragic backstory returns to her hometown to take over the school choir club where she connects with one of her students (Yuri Tsunematsu) who shares a similar fate... Fell in love with this one last year and was happy to revisit it. The titular song by Angela Aki about a troubled 15 year old teenager writing a letter to his or her 30 year old future self has also become my favorite one and here it's so well integrated into the story which presents two characters mirroring the one of that song.

So, this is first and foremost a drama and only becomes part of the Japanese team effort genre in its final act. There we are rewarded with two magic moments which really showcases the big heart of the movie.

I love the characters. I love the cast. I love the cinematography. I love how the movie is perfectly paced. I love the scenery of Goto. I love the music. I love the movie's message.

HAVE A SONG ON YOUR LIPS sums up everything which made me fall in love with Japanese cinema. I always have some praise on my lips for it.

Maybe a 8/10 is proper rating. The cast is great, an actual kids; like small, thin not a 20+ years old with perfect body(you know like model/muscle boy) acting as a kid. So that's spot on. Their voice are good, the song is good. I actually Google and YouTube just to hear the song repeatedly. Have a little problem with why they add the brother character but it perfectly sums up in the final act. nice. Ok maybe 10/10 was a proper rating for this good movie from me.
