I watched the entire series. It was good to see Terri Vaughn not playing her typical dumb character role. She states the show is based on her friend from the hood who became the mayor of San Francisco.
The writing on the show is a 90s comedy skit that needs work. American Black people wouldn't sit back and let White people talk to them in a negative manner no matter where they worked. Tyler Perry did add an additional writer this time, Niya Palmer who worked on The Game and Run the World, but it seems he overpowered her!
I will continue supporting Tyler for building a table that keeps Black actors working and finds hidden gems. He has been the opportunity for a lot top-tier Black actors get paid for the first time anywhere near their worth. Tyler gets the actors but the writing and directing is weak. He'll get it right when he starts to give up more control of the scripts and directing. Tyler built the house and it's his decision. Black people must love ourselves in our full glory and tell our own stories. Don't bend your creative perspectives in order to be accepted by other ethnic groups.

Slow start, the tone is kind of weird. I didn't like the disrespect of black people throughout. It's not till episode 8 that the show starts to get better as the LT. Gov. Starts to standing up for herself. They really could have just did episodes 1-2 and then went straight to the 7-8. The episodes in the middle are just hard to watch as they keep disrespecting the black woman who is now in power. Some of the outside characters and storylines were not needed. I preferred the last 3 characters that came in towards the end. They really helped shift the story and tone. They should get ride of the boyfriend with the loud colorful suits he just seems forced and out of place.
This show is colourful with bags of energy, but ultimately the jokes have been done a thousand times - to better effect - and it's just not that funny.
Some scenes stretch out for what feels like an eternity and you wonder if they kept the cameras rolling until someone in production laughed and then yelled cut.
The only characters with potential are the cousin and her boyfriend whose interactions are amusing, but still not comical enough to call this a successful comedy.
The saving grace is that each episode is less than 25 minutes, so you don't waste too much time deciding if it's worth continuing through the series. I gave up at episode 6.

As a big Tyler Perry fan, I had expectations of more. The premise is great, but it was executed poorly, with characters that are so underdeveloped that they're just weak parodies. The lead actors are clearly more talented than what this story allowed. Depicting Antionette as unprepared, obtuse, and inept was NOT what I expected to see from Perry, who usually supports strong female characters. After 8 episodes, I didn't see the attorney who graduated top of her class become much more than "overwhelmed woman in a tizzy". And while I appreciate the attempt at southern humor, it was overdone. (Yes, I'm southern, but every single character didn't need to sound like Boss Hogg.) This could have been a great MOVIE, but fell far short after dragging out too long.
First: It's a comedy.
Second: It does show the good and the bad of black society. These reviews act like the things that are depicted in the show aren't that relatable. I guarantee we all know someone in our family, and/or community, that can actually fit the characters shown. It's not necessarily bad. Just life.
Third: It shows the ups and downs of juggling life choices while trying to maintain an image, family, independence, and self worth.
Folks really need to get off their high horse of judgement, and just laugh at the comedy, or go watch something. I reallllllly miss the 90s mentality.
