A great film is one that holds you captive for two hours. For horror, the bar is even higher - it must make you feel fear, and then resolve it by the end. Jarann not only delivers both, but goes further, bringing the horror beyond the screen and into the mind of the viewer. Those who truly "get it" will realise - Jarann has happened to them too.
The film takes what seems like a familiar ghost-possession premise and turns it into something extraordinary. With an unshakeable story, impeccable performances, striking makeup, amazing background score and masterful direction that keeps the suspense sharp and the chills running, Jarann is a rare cinematic experience.
It's shocking that it scored only 7 or less from some viewers - perhaps they didn't understand it, or perhaps they couldn't handle the Jarann that befell them. When a film of this calibre doesn't make 100 crore, yet mediocre films do, it's a sad reflection of the audience's declining taste. But box office numbers do not define greatness - cinematic values do. Jarann meets them all, and more.
Special praise must go to Amruta Subhash and Anita Date, who deliver powerhouse performances. Amruta, in particular, is unforgettable. Hats off!

Jarann is a marathi psychological thriller movie. It's not a horror film but it's presented like one. The story revolves around a 40 year old woman suffering from a serious psychological disorder. She creates her own version of reality to find happiness but eventually gets trapped in a dangerous situation of her own making.
The film hooks you with its storytelling, visuals and music. However its biggest drawback is the unnecessary horror angle. Without that it could have been one of the best marathi psychological thrillers.
As you watch you think youve figured out what's going to happen and at the climax it feels like your guess was right. But then the movie takes a sharp turn with a twist you never expected. That's the film's biggest strength.
However in the last five minutes of the climax the movie ends suddenly and leaves things unclear. I couldn't understand what the makers were trying to convey in the ending. Can anyone explain what they were trying to say..?

The film delivers a gripping and unpredictable story that will resonate with true cinema enthusiasts. The storytelling is nuanced and well-crafted, keeping you engaged throughout. While the first half moves at a slower pace, it gradually builds tension and gains momentum in the second half. Amruta Subhash shines with a powerful and emotional performance, perfectly supported by a strong background score that enhances the film's dark atmosphere. Though not a horror movie, it dives into a deep, unsettling narrative that stays with you. Overall, it's a well-made film worth experiencing on the big screen.

I really appreciate the growth marathi horror universe has made. Even though this movie didn't have Annabelle or conjuring level horror, this movie still made me excited and interested. I liked the fact that the movie neither confirmed now rejected the presence of evil spirits and god. Which made sure to not offend believers. From the cliff hanger at the end of the movie I think there will be another movie. I hope they make that one more scary while keeping the quality of story. I liked the jumpscares but would recommend buildup with music getting louder and quick shots. The movie was great but a little more of a psychological thriller rather horror, which isn't a bad thing but just wanted to put it out there. If there's going to be another movie or a sequel I'd definitely watch. Overall I would give this movie 7/10.
Movie Review: Jarann ( Black Magic) , marathi film screening in cinema halls !!
A brilliant film directed by Rushikesh Gupte, Jarann or black magic explores the life of Radha ( Amruta Subhash), a woman with psychological disorders caused due to traumatic incidents experienced by her during her childhood days in her remote village in Konkan. Her mind creates an alternate reality which slowly manifests itself so firmly leading to a series of sinister events !!
Amruta Subhash is just wow!! 😲 .. she showcases a wide range of emotions - terrified & terrifying and is terrific in both👍👌 !! It is her film all the way. She is ably supported by Anita Date who assumes the role of Ganguti , Radha's childhood nemesis and a witch ,who has supposedly cast a spell on Radha .. Date is superb in her role extremely terrifying & whose mere presence can send a chill down your spine!! Anil Kadam who has played the role of the protagonist's psychiatrist has also played his part well.
The use of props like an eerie doll , planchet beads , dark attic, great editing and cinematography combined with a scary background score are instrumental in creating a lot of jumpscare moments without resorting to actual blood & gore !!
And finally, the twist in the end , truely unfathomable!! Kodos to the makers for trying something different!!
Jarann's screenplay is perched in the grey zone between old world occult beliefs and psychological fragility of an unstable mind.
This genre is rarely explored in Marathi cimema and such a movie with a great production value is rarely seen !! Highly recommended!! 😊👌👍😲
Highly recommended!!
Going with 4/5 for this one .. adios 😊!!
