The Mysterious Benedict Society

Found a DVD copy of this film on the free shelf at a thrift store. It was scuffed half to death, but the first 20 minutes worked and they were so unbelievably intriguing. Spent 2 hours buffing the disc with plastic polish to try and get it to work, only to find out after the fact that it's free on Youtube. Completely worth my time. It's an obviously unlicensed, zero-dollar budget retelling of the book. There's an 8 minute special feature titled "Parables" explaining how the (completely secular) book is secretly about Jesus, if you really think about it. But the movie, at its core, is obviously a bunch of friends who all enjoyed a book getting together and retelling it, and it's extremely charming. You should watch it. Everyone should watch it. Watch the parables video as well, it's on Youtube too. Probably really poignant if you're Christian, but if you're not it's really, really funny.
