The film avoids any kind of fish-out-of-water cliche. By contrast, the family shows a great deal of warmth and welcoming spirit.

What unfolds is a nuanced and subtle exploration of values and human nature. The idealism of youth and wisdom of age but also the hypocrisy and contradiction in inherent in both perspectives.

The film is well performed, the father and mother putting in particularly realistic portrayals. But it is very slow and scenes are long and drawn out often for the purpose of driving home a point already made.

Overall it's an enjoyable and charming film.
