Exclusive: Barry Eisler’s John Rain books are being adapted for Apple TV+ after the streamer and Tom Winchester’s Pure Fiction label scored the rights to the New York Times bestsellers. Pure Fiction is now working on bringing the assassin franchise to life as a TV series.
Word is there was red-hot competition for John Rain. We hear it was the combination of literary agent Laura Rennert, Pure Fiction’s Winchester, Apple TV+, as well as lawyer Joel Vanderkloot and See-Saw Films’ joint Managing Director Simon Gillis that got the current deal over the line. See-Saw is a backer of Pure Fiction.
An earlier attempt to bring John Rain to TV, with Keanu Reeves toplining, faltered. But with a streamer in place this time around and an option that covers 18 novels and four short stories, Apple TV+ might just have a new franchise on its hands.

The book will be adapted for television by See-Saw’s label, Fanboy, run by executive producer Patrick Walters. Following Fanboy’s hit series Sweetpea for Sky Atlantic, and the option of Harry Trevaldwyn’s Romantic Tragedies of a Drama King, the company next turns its attention to Forrest’s coming-of-age thriller.
The story follows Gail, a troubled scholarship student at the exclusive girls’ school Saint Saviours. “Impulsive, bored, and yearning for connection, she’s at that dangerous age when you want to be picked up by men and driven home by your mother,” a plot synopsis reads. “Ezra is rich, powerful, and successful, haunted by the wildness of his youth — and by anxiety over his teenage daughter, Agata. UK Studio Shinfield Secures $340M Financing
Shinfield Studios has secured £250M ($340M) in financing. The Brit studio, which has filmed Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Acolyte, completed construction last year in the south of England. Owner Shadowbox has secured the financing for Shinfield via Apollo-managed funds and the huge sit is now fully operational. It is one of a number of UK studios that has become home to big American projects. “We are tremendously proud of what we’ve accomplished since fully opening Shinfield Studios last year,” said Peter Rumbold, CEO of Shadowbox Studios. “Shadowbox’s business model is predicated on providing modern, high-quality film infrastructure, and today’s announcement both marks a major milestone for Shinfield and further validates the importance of purpose-built facilities within the global production landscape.” Shadowbox also runs a nine-stage, 850,000-square-foot campus in Atlanta, Georgia and is developing a 10-stage, 500,000-square-foot studio on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Exclusive: See-Saw Films is understood to be plotting an English-language remake of Trust No One, the highly-anticipated Israeli spy series that will launch in a few days time on Keshet 12 and then Netflix.
The Slow Horses maker, which has just been acquired by Mediawan, is in early-stage development on the project after striking its first deal with Israeli major Keshet, we understand. We are told creatives and casting are still being ironed out and no network is attached. The Israeli version, which launches on March 17, comes from prolific local creatives Ron Leshem, Amit Cohen and Daniel Amsel.
Trust No One stars Yehuda Levi (A Body That Works) as Itamar, the youngest ever head of Israel’s most powerful security agency. Itamar faces his greatest challenge when a cyber leak exposes his agents, starting with Shuruk (Luna Mansour). To combat the leak, he turns to Yali (Yael Elkana), a former cybersecurity expert.

Mediawan has acquired a majority 51% stake in British-Australian indie powerhouse See-Saw Films, the high-profile Oscar-winning tastemakers behind hit returning TV shows such as “Slow Horses” and “Heartstopper” and acclaimed, award-winning films including “The Power of the Dog,” “The Son” and “The King’s Speech.”
The news — which is likely to cause a stir in the U.K. industry and beyond and be considered a major coup for Mediawan — is the latest in a hot streak of big-name acquisitions by the thriving European production-distribution group, which took majority ownership of Brad Pitt’s Plan B in late 2022 and struck a partnership with LeBron James’ and Maverick Carter‘s The SpringHill Company shingle last September, as well as buying fast-rising German production and distribution company Leonine last year. It already has a presence in the U.K. with Drama Republic, Misfits Entertainment (“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”) and animation banner Wildseed Studios.
