When three treasure hunters drive into a barren Mexican desert in search of a GOLDEN BELL, they discover their biggest challenge isn't the harsh environment or the local bandits but the darkness in themselves.

Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan. American Humvee patrol the desolate wasteland. CODY starts to relax with his friends when the vehicle in front of him hits a IED and EXPLODES. Cody wakes up from his reoccurring nightmare. Shaken. It is three years later. He now runs a gas station in the desert, ghost-town of Amboy. Living here with his sick mother, he is able to avoid the human race which had only given him grief and pain. Just before his mother passes away, she makes Cody promise to look out for his younger brother, DANNY who's a grifter and a loser with a zillion ideas and zero follow through. One day, Danny shows up with his girlfriend, MARIA, who also happens to be Cody's high school sweetheart before she left him for college. This was the very reason why he joined the marines in the first place. The couple remind Cody that Pancho Villa had raid Columbus, New Mexico in 1916 and stole a golden bell. After returning to Mexico, no one heard anything about the bell again. Now, they have the MAP that tells them where this bell was hidden. There's just one catch, it is in a barren desert called The Devil's Playground. Cody refuses to go, but knowing his brother will only get into trouble and the promise he'd made, he joins them. At the US/Mexican border, Cody explodes in a fit of rage for no reason. Maria suspect PTSD. Camping in the desert, Cody calms down and the three appear to be enjoying their adventure. Arriving at the Devil's Playground, things turn for the worse. The over bearing heat whittle down their energy and will. Soon, emotions from past differences boil to the surface and tension becomes unbearable. They decide to search separately to maximized their time. A freak sand storm blows Danny off a cliff. Although injured, he refuses to leave without the bell. He is determined to prove that he is not the loser Cody thinks he is. Then Cody finds the bell only to discover a giant boulder blocking assess. Danny has brilliant plan. Blow up the boulder with their extra gas they'd brought. BOOM!. It works. As they break camp, Maria reveals her true self by assaulting the brothers with a shovel and taking the truck with the bell. Danny succumbs to his injuries. Without any choice, Cody treks through the harsh desert and barely survives. After returning home, Cody accepts his condition. He knows he can't hide from the world, there's no escape from himself. He moves to a real town, joins a group of vets, make new friends and starts to live his life again, one day at a time.
