As a remarkable sequel in domestic animation, Ne Zha 2 makes a powerful comeback, reigniting the passionate enthusiasm in the hearts of the audience once again, pulling the audience back into the fantastical and adventurous world of Fengshen.
Compared with its predecessor, this time the picture precision has achieved a qualitative leap. The underwater Dragon Palace is like a dreamy fairyland, where the gorgeous corals sway gracefully and mysterious lights and shadows shuttle through. Every detail can withstand scrutiny as if under a magnifying glass. The fighting scenes are truly outstanding. The clashes between Ne Zha and the villains are full of sparks, with dazzling skill special effects. Between the changes of light and shadow, power and beauty are perfectly integrated. Paired with the ear - shattering sound effects, it makes the audience feel as if they are right there on the scene, immersed in this thrilling battle between good and evil.
The character also reaches new heights. Ne Zha has shed some of his recklessness and gained more calmness and firmness after growing up. The look in his eyes when facing difficulties reveals his unyielding struggle against the injustice of fate, and that youthful spirit becomes even stronger. The newly introduced characters are equally brilliant. They create unique sparks when interacting with Ne Zha. Some become close friends and fight side by side with him, while others turn into sworn enemies and oppose him head - on. The relationships among the characters are complex yet well - organized, adding many wonderful foreshadowings to the story.
Moreover, the spiritual core of the film remains profoundly moving. While continuing the theme of Ne Zha's defiance against fate, it further delves into the power of family affection and friendship, showing the struggles and growth of an individual within a community. When Ne Zha throws his fist at the predetermined fate once again to protect his beloved relatives and friends, that shocking power strikes straight to the depths of the soul, making the audience couldn't help but be deeply touched.
Ne Zha 2 uses stunning audio - visual effects, well - rounded characters, and profound connotations to write a glorious chapter for domestic animation. Undoubtedly, it is a must - see visual feast that is worthy of the audience's repeated appreciation. We look forward to its subsequent works that can unfold an even more magnificent Fengshen legend.

A Masterpiece of Visual Storytelling: Where Artistic Ambition Meets Pulse-Pounding Spectacle
In the ever-evolving landscape of animated cinema emerges a groundbreaking work that redefines the boundaries of visual narrative - a tour de force that orchestrates a perfect symphony of artistic sensibility and crowd-pleasing entertainment. This animated marvel transcends conventional categorization, presenting audiences with an immersive sensory experience that lingers long after the credits roll. Through its bold fusion of painterly aesthetics and kinetic energy, the film establishes itself as a new benchmark for contemporary animation.
The Anatomy of Perfection: Martial Choreography as Cinematic Poetry
The film's combat sequences amount to nothing short of a revelation in motion picture craftsmanship. Each frame throbs with meticulously calculated violence that transcends ordinary action - it's balletic brutality elevated to high art. The animators demonstrate masterful command of temporal manipulation, using judicious slow - motion effects not as gimmicks but as narrative punctuation marks. These deliberate pauses in the chaos serve dual purposes: allowing viewers to appreciate the exquisite detail in every muscle contraction and weapon trajectory while amplifying the visceral impact through dramatic tension - building.
When the action accelerates to real - time velocity, the screen erupts in a fireworks display of particle effects and environmental destruction that would make Michael Bay reconsider his career choices. The technical wizardry on display draws favorable comparisons to the renowned Western animated series RWBY. With its unique camera language and precise grasp of action rhythm, this work stands out among numerous animations, creating a distinctive style of its own.
Humanity in the Midst of Mayhem: A Tapestry of Brotherhood
Beneath the surface pyrotechnics lies the film's beating heart - an emotionally resonant exploration of male camaraderie that avoids sentimental tropes. The ensemble cast functions as a complex ecosystem of conflicting loyalties and shared burdens. Through subtle facial animations and body language that could rival live-action method acting, the characters reveal layered personalities that evolve organically across the narrative arc.
Particularly noteworthy is the nuanced portrayal of fraternal bonds under stress - the unspoken understandings conveyed through shared glances during battle preparations, the protective instincts that override self-preservation, and the quiet moments of vulnerability hidden beneath martial bravado. These relationships attain Shakespearean depth through carefully crafted dialogue that balances poetic introspection with vernacular authenticity.
Narrative Precision: The Virtue of Restraint in Storycraft
In an era plagued by narrative excess and manufactured drama, this film stands as a testament to the power of disciplined storytelling. The plot unfolds with the elegant efficiency of a Swiss timepiece, each story beat serving multiple purposes - advancing character development while maintaining relentless forward momentum. Unlike lesser productions that rely on contrived conflicts, the tension here arises naturally from established personalities clashing with environmental pressures.
The screenplay demonstrates remarkable respect for audience intelligence, trusting viewers to follow complex political machinations without expositional hand-holding. Character decisions remain consistently logical within established parameters, creating a domino effect of cause-and-consequence that heightens dramatic stakes. Even minor supporting roles receive thoughtful motivation arcs, contributing to the rich tapestry of this fully realized world.
Conclusion: A New High Water Mark for Animated Storytelling
This cinematic achievement represents more than mere entertainment - it's a paradigm shift in how animation can engage both heart and intellect. By harmonizing state-of-the-art visual innovation with timeless human drama, the creators have crafted a work that will undoubtedly influence the next generation of animators. It satisfies on every conceivable level: as a technical showpiece pushing the medium's boundaries, as a gripping character study, and most importantly, as pure cinematic exhilaration. For connoisseurs of animation and casual viewers alike, this film doesn't just raise the bar - it redesigns the entire stadium.

I didn't get to watch Ne Zha 1 in theaters, and when I tried finding it online, I only saw a little and don't remember much. But Ne Zha 2 is absolutely legendary-nonstop excitement from start to finish, and I didn't even notice the two-plus hours passing.
Since I work as a long-haul driver, and IMAX screenings were extremely limited in the U. S. (only available for one day on 1/12), I pre-booked my ticket online on the 11th. Then, I drove 20 hours from Los Angeles just to catch the IMAX version in Dallas. It was totally worth the effort-both critically acclaimed and a box office success for a reason!
The entire audience was captivated for the full 2.5 hours, and no one left until the post-credits scene ended. Most people stayed until the lights came back on.
Even though it's an animated film, it appeals to all ages. I'm 40 year old, and I loved every second of it!
I recommend watching it in 2D or Laser 3D.

Nezha 2 is as wonderful as Nezha 1! Compared with 1, 2 is more mature, and the world outlook and the concepts conveyed by the film are more profound. "I'm the Mo" also perfectly echoes the first season, "I have the final say on "It's a Mo or a Xian". I really like Nezha and Ao Bing. Generally speaking, the portrayal of the characters is very wonderful, and the development of the storyline is also very reasonable and smooth. There are no bugs in the whole process. It's very true to the name! In addition, I am looking forward to the arrival of Nezha 3, and I hope I won't wait too long. I'm also looking forward to Nezha's brothers who will appear at the end!

I had no plan to watch any Chinese films released during the Spring Festival period this year at first, but one of my friends invited me to watch this film. So I was finally in the cinema. When asked what did I expect the film to bring to me by my friend, I said, no, no expectation of a normal Chinese movie at all. However it turned out that this film went beyond my wildest expectation.
A film may be called a good film if it contains a part that it did a great job in, and a film is marvelous if it did everything perfectly, which is the case of Ne Zha 2. This film not only told a good story, it also told the story well.
The story developed in a reasonable way, and I like the way it presents a surprising twist, because you would be reminded of a previous scene that hinted at the twist when there is a twist.
What's more, as a man who used blender to creat some short videos before, I can tell that this film also did a great job in its visual effects. It perfectly delt scenes with a large amount of people, and the way different characters move when having a combat in the air broke the mindset of horizontal movement. Other special effects are great too.
To sum up, this is a wonderful piece of art.

As the most anticipated animated blockbuster of 2025, Ne Zha 2 has grossed more than $2.2 billion since its release in China earlier this year, ranking as the fifth-highest-grossing film in global box office history. Yet its English-language version, which opened in North America last Friday (August 22), failed to sustain that momentum. Despite a robust promotional push by A24, a voice cast led by Michelle Yeoh, and a wide rollout across 2,228 theaters (including IMAX), the film earned only $1.5 million in its first three days-placing 13th at the box office. By contrast, Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, opening the very next day in just 1,700 theaters, pulled in $18 million.
When news first broke that Ne Zha 2 would premiere in the U. S., some outlets heralded it as a "litmus test" of American audiences' appetite for Chinese storytelling. In retrospect, the results are sobering. The film's performance underscores a persistent reality: the more deeply a work is rooted in Chinese cultural elements, the harder it becomes for it to cross over in the U. S. market. Recent Chinese stage productions and cinematic blockbusters have encountered similar challenges on American soil.
Unlike the familiar narrative templates of Disney or Pixar, Ne Zha 2 leans heavily into its "mythic Chinese texture." It picks up directly from the 2019 original, with characters drawn from the 16th-century novel Investiture of the Gods and centuries of folk mythology. There is little handholding for new or unfamiliar audiences-the film plunges straight into large-scale battles. For Chinese viewers, this continuity feels seamless; for American audiences without prior knowledge, it can be alienating.
At 150 minutes, the film is epic in scope and brimming with spectacle, but its length far exceeds the typical attention span of children and, arguably, adults conditioned by TikTok. At the same time, its mix of emotional beats, slapstick humor, and shonen-style battles places it closer to Japanese anime such as Naruto or Dragon Ball Z than to Hollywood's family-oriented animated features. To viewers raised on Pixar's emotional formula or Disney's fairy-tale adventures, Ne Zha 2 comes across as "too complex" while still "not fairy-tale enough." Even a star-studded English dub cannot erase this cultural divide.
The film's rapid pacing compounds the issue. After only a brief recap, it drops viewers directly into its fantastical reimagining of ancient China, with the resurrected spirits of Ne Zha and Ao Bing immediately swept into massive battles. For those unfamiliar with the original film or the mythological references, it can feel overwhelming and disorienting.
Still, the weak North American box office should not be mistaken for a dismissal of the film's artistic or cultural value. Rather, it highlights a deeper challenge for Chinese cinema: the true barrier to "going global" is not quality, but whether its cultural language can be understood and embraced across borders.
The chilly reception to Ne Zha 2 in the U. S. points to a crucial question: how can Chinese films remain true to their cultural roots while also building more effective bridges for cross-cultural communication? The key may not lie in dubbing or casting international stars, but in finding universal emotions and narrative frameworks that resonate beyond cultural boundaries.
Of course, like Ne Zha 2 and several other record-breaking Chinese productions, these films remain enormous successes at home. The rise of large domestic studios has enabled blockbusters such as Hi, Mom and Wolf Warrior 2 to gross hundreds of millions-almost entirely from Chinese audiences. For many filmmakers and investors, overseas box office now seems increasingly secondary, if not altogether irrelevant.

As a Chinese who grew up in a Western country, I consider myself very neutral. This is the first time I've given a movie a 10/10. The film's visuals are of world-class quality, and the imagery is truly breathtaking. As someone who has experienced both Eastern and Western cultures, I believe this movie conveys excellent values-the pursuit of fairness and justice . Each character is well-developed, even the antagonist. I can understand their motives. The story is well-structured. If you're familiar with Chinese culture, you will thoroughly enjoy this movie. Highly recommend you to watch this movie in the cinema!
If you plan to watch this, watch the first movie first, otherwise the master-student, peer-to-peer, parent-kid relations will baffle you, and while watching this, more new characters will be thrown in, each has its own side story. Wish the story telling is more skillful, because at times, it's a bit confusing. Of course the visual is stunning, fight scenes satisfying, however it's a bit long, and when that seemingly benign secondary character turns out to be the big villain, you would just sit there, keep watching along, without any care.

"Nezha 2" is nothing short of a cinematic gem, and it's clear that every second of its five-year production was well spent. I went into the theater with my mom, initially worried that she might not enjoy an animated film, especially since she hadn't seen the first installment. But to my surprise, she was completely blown away! By the end, she kept repeating, 'This is so (breathtaking)! '
The film strikes a perfect balance between humor and heartfelt moments, making it easy for anyone to connect with the story. While the stunning visual effects have already been widely praised, what truly impressed me was the film's impeccable pacing. Not a single moment felt wasted-every scene served a purpose, and every line of dialogue was meaningful. I often find myself frustrated when movies drag on with filler scenes, but "Nezha 2" kept me fully engaged for the entire two-plus hours. The seamless blend of storytelling and jaw-dropping visuals made this one of the most enjoyable animated films I've ever seen, not just in China, but globally.
Without a doubt, "Nezha 2" deserves a spot among the top three animated films in the world. A must-watch for any animation fan!"

Look at the film in terms of production,it is excellent, but the film lacks a certain depth in plot. There is nothing new in the plot, and there is not enough content to express. After watching the whole movie, it gives people a feeling that they have watched it, but they don't know what they have learned and felt.

Ne Zha 2 stands as an exceptional masterpiece in Chinese animation cinema. Ne Zha's iconic declaration - 'My destiny is mine to forge, not the heavens' to decide' - powerfully captures the resilient spirit of Chinese people confronting adversity. The film masterfully balances a gripping narrative filled with unexpected twists, emotionally resonant moments, and well-timed humor. Additionally, it showcases beautiful paintings inspired by traditional Chinese art. While the sequel delivers a complete cinematic experience, watching Ne Zha 1 first will deepen your understanding of the character development and mythological context, ultimately enhancing your viewing journey.
This animated film stands on par with Hollywood animations in terms of overall production quality, while also showcasing its own unique charm. Its animation effects are top-tier, with intricate character designs, stunning scene constructions, and smooth motion capture that meet international standards. The lighting effects and attention to detail are particularly impressive, creating a visually striking experience that immerses viewers in an unparalleled audio-visual journey.
The film's plot is equally compelling, featuring a tightly-knit and multi-layered storyline. The main narrative is clear and engaging, complemented by rich subplots that balance thrilling adventures with deep emotional resonance. The pacing is masterfully handled, alternating between high-energy action sequences and heartfelt emotional moments, ensuring the audience remains captivated from start to finish.
What truly sets this film apart is its deep cultural roots. Drawing from Eastern traditions, it incorporates elements such as mythological legends, philosophical ideas, and artistic styles, infusing the story with a rich cultural atmosphere. This cultural depth is evident not only in the visual design but also in the themes and character development, adding intellectual and emotional layers to the film beyond its entertainment value.
The characters are well-crafted, each with distinct personalities and compelling arcs. The protagonist's courage and resilience, the supporting characters' wit and humor, and the antagonist's complexity all contribute to a rich and dynamic narrative. These characters feel authentic and relatable, allowing viewers to connect with their struggles and triumphs on a personal level.
In summary, this animated film excels both technically and artistically, blending the visual spectacle and entertainment value of Hollywood animations with the cultural richness and unique beauty of Eastern storytelling. It offers a refreshing alternative to mainstream Western animations, providing audiences with a cinematic experience that is both thrilling and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this film to anyone seeking a visually stunning, emotionally engaging, and culturally enriching experience. It is a celebration of a different kind of beauty-one that is deeply rooted in tradition yet resonates with modern audiences.

The excellence of the previous film 'Ne Zha: The Birth of the Demon Child' has already filled my expectations. I didn't expect this sequel to live up to expectations. Not only did it achieve comprehensive upgrades in visual effects and character development, but it also brought new shock and emotion to the audience in the deep exploration of the plot and theme, once again proving the unlimited potential of domestic animation. After reading it, it still exceeded expectations by too much! It's a complete blow to the dimensionality reduction of certain Chinese comics! Let's talk about the only drawback first, the initial humor was a bit vulgar. However, the flaws do not overshadow the virtues, as everything else is almost perfect.
The visual effect is really stunning! It can be called a masterpiece! The movements are smooth and natural, and every detail is handled very well, as if you are in a real battlefield. The visuals are even more stunning, whether it's the magnificent underwater world or the ethereal Jade Void Palace. The special effects visuals are not only gorgeous, but also very realistic. The scene of thousands of troops fighting in the air pushes the visual effect to the extreme, and the majestic atmosphere is no less than that of Hollywood blockbusters. In addition, the texture of water in the special effects is the most precise and complex, and the shots of seawater are numerous and beautiful, delicate and natural. There are even close-up shots of water patterns and mist, including the effects of seawater washing different materials and the subtle differences in the traces left behind, all of which are presented.
The character images in the film are more full and three-dimensional compared to the first one, with each character having their own story and motivation, no longer a simple binary opposition of good and evil. Each character has distinct changes in personality. Increased the radiance and power of humanity.
The movie continues the passionate and fantastical style of its predecessor in terms of plot, but also boldly innovates and reconstructs on the basis of traditional mythology. The worldview of the film is more complete, the boundaries between humans, demons, monsters, and immortals are clearer, and there are both contradictions and blends between different races. The plot has multiple echoes with the first part, but it is not just a simple echo, but a sublimation based on the first part.
In terms of theme, the film continues the core proposition of "breaking prejudices" and expands to more complex social contradictions. The setting of the dragon clan being oppressed by the heavenly court due to their demon identity implies racial discrimination and class solidification in reality; Shen Gongbao's "rebellion" motivation has been further explored, highlighting the alienation of individuals by institutional biases. Even the dollar sign on the furnace satirizes some things. In addition, Nezha's transition from "defying the heavens and changing his destiny" to "protecting the people" explores the balance between individual heroism and collective interests.
The music and soundtrack of the film are equally impressive, adding a lot of color to the film. The perfect integration of music and soundtrack with the visuals and plot of the film not only adds more artistic charm to the film, but also better enhances the atmosphere of the film.
Overall, this is an excellent film that combines visuals, storytelling, and content. It not only showcases the strong power of Chinese animation after its rise, but also demonstrates the infinite possibilities of traditional Chinese mythology in the modern context.

The art is amazing with the rendering and 3d effects. I definitely recommend imax 2d to watch. Afterall a good movie is fully complete with a good story, and the director did exceptionally on this.
This is a movie that explore family love, friend love , comedy and oppression from the unexpected.
The plot twist challenges stereotypes and racism in Chinese legend stories, where god discriminate magical animals. The main characters contains LGBTQ elements which is an exceptional breakthrough in Chinese media.
The character design are absolutely amazing, every scale of the dragon is made with care and every scene is worth the money.

Technically wise, Ne Zha 2 blows its 2019 predecessor out of the water. However, Ne Zhe (2019) is overall a better movie with a better focus and delivers a more clear message. Ne Zha 2 is trying to achieve too many things so it loses its focus. While Ne Zha 2 is an undeniably spectacular movie, please keep in mind that, unlike a Disney movie, this movie was not particularly made with the worldwide audience in mind. It was inteneded for Chinese audience. So unless you are very familiar with Chinese culture and history, you will find it a little hard to understand what is going on. For example, some Chinese dialects are used. So if you are not Chinese, you cannot really get the subtle humor from it. My two cent: Watch Ne Zha first and if you enjoy it, then you can try this one. Overall rating: 7.5.

Ne Zha 2 (2025) is an absolute spectacle. It is a film that reaches for epic-ness and grabs it with both hands. It stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Lord of the Rings, Avengers: Infinity War, and One Piece: Stampede. This isn't just a sequel, it's a bigger, bolder, and more emotionally charged adventure that refuses to let you go.
One of the film's greatest strengths is its scope. The stakes are higher, the world is larger, and the storytelling reaches new heights. Picking up almost immediately after the first film, we see Ne Zha's journey continue but this time, he's grown. The mischievous, cheeky, and stubborn hero we loved is still here, but there's a maturity in his actions now. He understands what's at stake, and that growth is one of the film's most rewarding aspects.
The expansion of the world brings new characters into the fold, and they're not just there for show. Each new face fits seamlessly into the story and adds depth to the narrative. The worldbuilding in Ne Zha 2 is impressive, and every character serves a purpose whether it's pushing the story forward or helping Ne Zha evolve.
Visually, the film has leveled up. The animation has improved so much compared to its predecessor. While it may not yet rival Hollywood heavyweights like Beyond the Spider-Verse or Toy Story, the quality within the Chinese animation industry has clearly taken a massive step forward. The textures are richer, the colors more vibrant, and the details more intricate. Every frame is a feast for the eyes.
The sound design is another standout. Crisp, sharp, and perfectly timed, the sound effects make every action sequence feel immersive. When the fighting starts and oh, does it start, you feel every impact. The final hour is an all-out action extravaganza. It's a relentless, adrenaline-pumping ride that could easily become overwhelming, but Ne Zha 2 balances the chaos with a compelling story. Even in the midst of battle, there's heart and purpose driving every punch and clash.
That said, the film does stumble a bit in its ambition. The longer it goes, the messier it gets. With so many subplots and moving parts, it occasionally feels like it's trying to do too much at once. But even in its messiness, the film never loses its entertainment value. It's a ride you'll gladly stay on, even when it gets a little bumpy.
At its core, Ne Zha 2 is a story about growth, redemption, and the battle between good and evil. It delivers powerful morals: that not every bad person stays bad, and not every good person remains good. It reminds us not to judge by appearances and to believe in change. These lessons, wrapped in a dazzling, action-packed adventure, make this a perfect film for families.
Verdict: Ne Zha 2 is the best 2025 movie yet. It surpasses its predecessor in almost every way. It's visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and wildly entertaining. Despite a few narrative stumbles, it remains a heart-pounding, epic journey that leaves you both breathless and inspired.

Being as a chinese person born in the 80s and grew up all the way here it was full of great chinese animated films in my childhood. The one called Ne zha nao hai made in 1979 by Shanghai animation film studio was just one of them. Highly unlike this Ne Zha 2 looks like, Ne zha nao hai was a fully hand drawn 2D frame animation. The narrative, the visual technique, the music score, the editing were all on top notch. Even if a viewer has no idea about the origin of the story it shall not bother at all since the narrative itself pretty much stands on its own. To my opinion Ne Zha Nao Hai was a true epic animation production. I have no idea about why this Ne Zha 2 has been promoted as it is the one that is able to represent the chinese animation producing industry since compared to those made by Shanghai animation film studio several decades ago, Ne Zha 2 is pretty much copy cat. It is pretty much been there done that in every aspect, where as those that filled my childhood, they were truly the pioneers and produced so perfectly due to the so limited technologies availabe back then in the industry.

A great film that does the best job of presenting the image and the intention, and treats the audience with a lot of respect. Now that he's got the top spot at the box office in Chinese cinema history and has become one of China's finest films, I think he can also represent the level of production of Chinese cinema and can be seen by more people in pursuit of a higher level of more exciting films. This is not unique to China, Ne Zha, as a character in Chinese mythology, tells the story in a way that everyone can understand and relate to, showing Chinese culture and a high level of production, I hope other countries can make the same great film!
