Not a fun comedy and kind of a mess.

If you're looking for a light-hearted fun comedy that you won't have to think too much about, this is not it. It's not Neighbors or an Adam Sandler film or something like that. It's more of a clever dark comedy. The film makers wanted to make more than just a mindless film, and I really appreciate the attempt.

Now each scene separate to me is actually well written and well acted, and if I had seen them like that instead of as one continuous film, I would have laughed my butt off and been pretty entertained. But that's the thing. The movie feels like the writers wrote each scene separate and then strung them all together without much thought to how the pieces fit, leaving a lot of things (like the way the characters acted, the random things that happened, etc.) very inconsistent and sacrificing a potentially solid story. And by the end, I'm left thinking, "Oh this could have been so awesome man!" But nope :/.

Aside from how the scenes are put together, there are things about the premise of the film really don't make sense, like how the roommates own the beautiful house without either of them seeming like they earn enough $$ (and I think this film would've worked even better if it was in a normal apartment), how they are even best friends (the crazy psycho paranoiac entitled brat guy vs the normal nice chill guy - to me, in the real world, the only way that would work is if the nice guy had amnesia every minute or felt sorry for the guy and was friends with him out of pity, neither of which the film puts him out to be), why the girl attempted to seduce both of them when she clearly just liked one of them, etc.

And then there's the twisted moral code of the film that makes it seem like the girl roommate (Chloe) was actually in the wrong when she didn't really do anything wrong, and that what the guys were doing back at her was totally fine in this harmless game of playing fire with fire when really, it was incredibly childish and pretty sick sh*t.

All in all, this film had such awesome potential but wasn't given enough time to reach that potential, so yeah. I wish it did. It's not a good clever comedy nor is it a fun mindless film, which makes it kind of pointless to watch. But anyways, it's not horrible, and I think everybody deserves some credit, and I don't think you'd regret it too much if you watched it, and I'm actually looking forward to seeing all the people involved grow to make better films.

Good Concept but Fell Flat

So, like the headline says I think the concept is good and interesting but the story line was all over the place and fell flat. It focused on to many different things that were kind of irrelevant. On a comedy standpoint their was some good chuckles but overall not really a comedy.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time

This movie was such a disappointment. I started ok and just went downhill from there. The ending was almost ok until they didn't even get away with it and at that point I just couldn't take it anymore. The shroom bit was funny, but even that could have been done better, with some special effects for example. Overall the concept of the movie was good, but the writing was bad and unoriginal. Whoever wrote this should stop writing scripts.

Just another entertaining movie that's worth watching.

I often can't understand why some movies get such low reviews when the movie is a story being told as fiction. I think people to often judge a movie by how they think it compares to real life. A good movie is simply a movie that entertains, if it's far fetched and has holes, that doesn't mean it a lousy movie. Bad Roomies is just a crazy story that gets out of hand. How is it any different to something like There's something about Mary? Maybe the acting was better, maybe not, but both movies used an outrageous series of circumstances to get to the end. The three stooges, and Abbot and Costello were even more outrageous and had more holes than a stop sign in Kentucky, but they get high marks? Bad Roomies does exactly what such a movie hopes to achieve, a story that is funny in whatever way, and gets to the end in its own amusing way. It's not Gone with the Wind, and it never intended to be another Gone with the Wind.

Hot Garbage

This Is Some Of The Stinkiest Hot Garbage Out There. this is a sad attempt at trying to keep the whole American pie G rated pud wacker cinema porn dream alive for these simpleton dudes who try and put themselves in the positions the director is trying to convey. The sandlot kid as a main character? He had his moment in child acting but to try and cast him again. The effort is too little too late. The solutions to the movies qualms were far too abrupt, like the screen writers didn't weigh out any other possible solution or outcome to situations. It literally felt like someone across the table said "how about this?" and whoever called the shots was like "perfect, you're a genius". This movie was just a sad, late attempt at keeping the whole late 90s / early 2000 high school-boy dream alive well into their mid-thirties . Stinky hot garbage. Would not bang or plow.

Weird, funny, and confusing (and a waste of time).

I started this movie, thinking it would be a classic raunchy/semi-satirical comedy of 21st century. I was quickly proved wrong. Overall, I give "Bad Roomies" a 3 out of 10 star rating. This film started out funny, I'll admit. A lot of the jokes were funny, the stuff they did was comical, and a lot of the lines were very well/cleverly-written. The cinematography was also pretty dang good; it was shot very well, with a good usage of natural lighting. Then, the movie got confusing. Then, stupid. Then, in the second half of the film, everything was very confusing, weird, and kind of stupid. I did not enjoy this movie very much overall; it was a WASTE OF TIME and I really don't understand other watchers of this movie that say it was any good.

Savas and Monroe shine in this unfocused comedy

Bad Roomies is far from a terrible, or even a bad film. It managed to spark some laughter, and keep me mildly entertained for it's rather slim running time.

However, after watching it, I didn't really feel the satisfaction one should after watching a great comedy.

It's a shame, because everything seems to be there. You have Annie Monroe playing a very likable leading lady with a deviant streak, Tommy Savas playing a typical nice guy, and even Patrick Renna delivers a good performance, albeit of an unlikable character.

Despite these things, the film manages to fall flat. In my opinion this is due to the lack of any meaningful character development, in addition to a rather unfocused plot that doesn't really go anywhere. The potential for a laugh out loud comedy with an intriguing plot was there, but unfortunately the film doesn't really take advantage of that potential.

However, that doesn't make Bad Roomies a bad film, per se. It's a half-decent dark comedy that's worth a watch. The only issue is you might find yourself wanting more throughout.

6/10.

Annie Monroe Shines

I thought this movie was well put together. At first given its premise I was going to flick through stopping here and there if something caught my attention however I actually found the movie interesting and watched it all. In truth I found Annie Monroe's performance captivating. Her co-stars gave strong performances as well. And the ending: dark comedy to perfection. The movie is not pretentious in any way but rather draws the viewer in at the start with comedy which gradually gets darker and darker with surprising twists and turns. They keep your interest for sure and I found myself drawn to the characters and empathizing with them. I mean the movie had just the right balance between acting and plot so you could suspend disbelief and enjoy the movie for what it was: a darkly funny rendering of roommates desperately unbalanced.

Bad, just skip

This movie could've been okay if cast better. The annoying fat guy Bobby was horribly out of place. I hated his character almost as much as I hated the script & corny lines. I don't recall laughing once & fast fwd through til the end at mid point. The movie sucked & the "hot" roommate wasn't all that hot.

Not a well put together movie. Kinda all over the place

The ending seemed like the writers accidentally added from what was meant to be for a different movie lol. Made zero, ZERO sense. Acting was fine.

Terrible!

It's so terrible that I'm on the internet writing a review, which I never do. It's not funny. I don't want to see Patrick Renna in any more movies. Just replacing him would have drastically improved the movie. This would have been better with a few changes.

It's not funny but there's a clear effort to be funny, which is why it's listed as a dark comedy. Okay, you could've had a great movie here if you did away with the comedy act and went for a more edgy drama, minus Patrick Renna, of course.

I bet the Kickstarter contributors are disappointed.

Literally the worst movie i've ever seen

I made an account just to rate this movie. I hated it. The characters (especially Bobby) were so irritating and the plot was absurd. Wasn't even entertaining enough to be good because it's so bad. I hated it and the ending was absolutely ridiculous.

Something different

This movie is sweet and funny and it shines in a bit different way. And Annie Monroe is super sexy and provocative. She has more charm than most of the Hollywood actresses.

The acting and the story are original and quite natural. I wish there were more such comedies.

Bad. Very bad.

The Good: honestly, nothing.

The Bad: This movie was obviously made with loving reverence of Judd Apatow and Kevin Smith. Like many knock offs, it mostly misses what makes those films (at their best) so fun and enjoyable. This movie is mean spiritied, misogynistic, stupid and tiring. Patrick Rena and Tommy Ravas play the "obnoxious, pig headed friend" and "quiet, passive nice guy" respectively, and it's as dated as it sounds. Rena in particular plays one of the most thoroughly unlikable characters I have seen in a while.

The performances here - not helped by the awful script - are just...really bad. Annie Monroe is terribly miscast as this supposed "good quirky girl/sex goddess" character, who spends most of her time wincing and playing with her hair. She has no values, motivations or agency. None of the female characters here do. I don't throw the "misogyny" label around lightly, but here, it's entirely appropriate.

The Ugly: to boot, this movie looks absolutely terrible and cheap. It feels like a world of like 10 people and all the shots are flat and boring. There's a garish dubstep, "trip" scene - of course it completely misrepresents the experience of magic mushrooms - that prompted me to almost turn it off.

And despite being 94 mins or so, this movie honestly felt like an eternity. Don't waste your time.

A good movie to film students, a bad movie as entertainment

At the beginning this movies feels like a YouTube video has gone long. Its missing a cinematic quality I've grown accustomed to from years of watching real movies.

The dialog do not sound natural and I believe the actors know about this too, they do not have the conviction of what come out of their face mouth. And also the both male characters are not likable with this movie, but this could just me one man's option.

To summarize,

Don't watch it, you don't need to, you're going to get nothing out of it unless you're a film student, if you're a film student then this level of work might just be perfect.

If you want to laugh, skip this.

I am genuinely shocked that there are 7-10 star reviews of this movie. I only made it half way through because I was so bored. I literally did not laugh one time.

Enjoyable

A comedy about two friends who have to find a replacement roommate to help with the bills. They have difficulty finding a suitable applicant until they decide to choose a woman. They feel this will be better. Things are awesome at first, and they soon end up in a drunken threesome. Shortly after, tensions are created, leaving the guys plotting on how to get her out of the house. Soon its an all out war leaving no holds barred.

This was a laugh out loud kind of funny. It stars Patrick Renna who you probably remember as the funny looking kid in The Sandlot (1993) and most recently in Fear Inc. (2016). He does deadpan sarcasm well. The other actors do an amazing job as well. The film does show you how every man's dream living arrangement could become a nightmare.

Loved It!

Loved it. Loved the twist at the end. Quite funny in many parts too. Very entertaining. Always been a fan of Indie movies and it's always refreshing to see a dark comedy that can not only make you laugh, but cringe at the same time. The characters were great. Of course the one guy could be a total dog, yet you find out that he has human feelings too - and a heart. It's a really great written script that has you wondering, "What's next?" A lot going on here with a lot of depth. It totally grabs you and pulls you in. I loved how the beginning all ties into the ending of the movie. It is all one, great big circle. It was a really fun movie to watch on a rainy day. I would highly recommend it to all Indie fans.

I expected better

At least this wasn't that type of movie that ends with some tripe that leaves you asking wtf did just watch. This started off well and had some funny moments but this did not last long.

The movie takes a turn after their "fun" and becomes more of a "dramedy" that has some odd moments. The writers missed a opportunity to really make this a comedy and give it a better ending.

Worth a watch if you like dark movies that throw you a twist.

unexpectedly hilarious dark comedy!

Bad Roomies is the most unexpectedly hilarious comedy I've seen! I was expecting an easy comedy just for smiling and the occasional laugh, specially from what seemed like a low budget indie movie, however, it turned out to have some great breakthrough performances from Tommy Savas and Annie Monroe who were unknown to me. I kept laughing out loud throughout the whole movie! It really makes use of intelligent comedy of situation, through some brilliantly placed comic interruptions. One moment in specific reminded me of Family Guy's exaggerated fights. What is impressive is that this was Jason Schnell's first feature film! Great job with the direction and script-writing. I specially liked the seldom switch to a more emotional side of each character, letting the characters develop a bit more in an attempt to establishing some empathy from the viewers, which is rare in outrageous comedies like this one. I recommend this one to anyone that wants to have a laugh!
