This is one of Mithun Chakraborty's best performances wouldn't be an understatement. As others mentioned, the cast is tailor-made. There are absolutely flaws in cinematography, editing, background score but the actors made it their own. Storyline is just as symmetry to this genre, but Mithun Chakraborty and in some scenes Ritwik have outperformed.
The other castes supported well to brew this old story to a finer liquor - absolutely worth watching.
Raj Chakraborty as a director is blooming with time and will wish to watch some more. This should be commercially acclaimed to the TGs if properly marketed.
But actor Mithun Chakraborty has owned this one - he won the show and the audience again with his charm, apt emotions and subtle gentleness.

Shontaan is a Bengali film directed by well known Bengali Director Raj Chakraborty. Film deals with the problem of aged parents who are completely neglected by their son. Mithun Chakraborty and Anasuya Majumder potrait the roles of parents and Ritwik Chakraborty potrait the character son. The story revolves on the basis of a Court room drama when Mithun Chakraborty is forced to place a case against his son who is completely reluctant to help his lonely parents even inspite of having a white collar job , he refused to give money for operation of her mother. This son with his wife live a sophisticated life but not extends a minimum support to his own parents. Subhashree Ganguly as a lawyer gives her support to Mithun Chakraborty to fight for justice against his son. Raj Chakraborty has done a fantastic job to handle both family drama and court room drama with essence. He is definitely one of the finest Director of modern Bengali Cinema. Last 20 minutes of the film makes you cry and you leave the hall with a strong social message. The main strong point of the film is performance. Ritwik Chakraborty as son, Anasuya Majumder as mother and Subhashree Ganguly as lawyer give their career best performance. Ritwik is so natural as a bad son, as a spectator you will hate him. Mithun at mid seventies makes wonder, poor man Amitabh Bachhan, hero of front bencher, now melts the heart of urban centric audiences who were slightly indifferent about him even during his Disco era. After Projapati, Kabuliwala now Shontaan it is 3 rd hits in three consecutive year in completely different genres which are differed from typical Mithun Genera. Three time National award winner actor now justifies his talent which is seriously underrated in his so called masala bollywood films. Sohini Sengupta and Kharaj Mukherjee justify themselves in their short roles. Music is as per the message of the film. Lastly it is a must watch film for every family.
I watched an amazing movie. We all went to the theater together, bought tickets, and watched it. Just leaving the review, tears came to my eyes. The entire theater was silent, everyone had tears in their eyes. Oh, what an incredible performance by Mithun Chakraborty! This is why he is our pride, our "Mahaguru." Not for a single moment did it feel like I was watching a movie; it felt like the events were unfolding right in front of me, and I was witnessing them. Ritwick, Anasuya, Kharaj, Subhashree-each of them acted so beautifully.
Oh, one more thing: when Mithun Chakraborty transitioned from playing the role of a father to an aggressive, rebellious character, the entire theater erupted in applause. It was a sight to behold! Truly, Mithun Chakraborty, you were, are, and always will be a legendary actor in the hearts of every person.

This film depicts Saradindu ( #MithunChakraborty ) meeting a lawyer ( #SubhasreeGanguly ) to lodge a legal case against his neglectful son Indranil ( #RitwickChakraborty ), who refuses to take responsibility for his old and ailing parents.
The direction by #RajChakraborty is good, but nothing to shout about. The screenplay by Sreejib and additional screenplay by Anuja Chattopadhyay & Soumyabrata Rakshit ( with dialogues ) are gripping, but the second half is a bit dragged.
The story by Sreejib is cliché. You may have had a déjàvu while watching hindi films Baghban, Waqt or bengali films Latthi, Posto and few more bordering on the same topic partially. Old wine served in a new bottle you may say.
Cinematography by #ManasGanguly is average.
Editing by #MdKalam could have been crisper by 10 minutes or so. The flashback scenes have been well juxtaposed.
Music by #JeetGanguli & Background score by #AmitChaterjee is respectively moderate and good as per the screenplay.
As per the performances are concerned, the actors have excelled in their individual parts with distinction marks. Even the supporting actors looked tailor-made. National Award and Dadasaheb Phalke winner Mithun Chakraborty, Ritwick Chakraborty and #AnashuaMajumdar in lead roles have given their best performances, while #SohiniSengupta, #BiswajitChakraborty, #ShomaChakraborty and #AhanaDutta has lent abled support in their roles. #KharajMukherjee and Subhasree Ganguly were awesome in their duel.
The Production house #SVF, produced by #ShrikantMohta and #MahendraSoni under the banner of #ShreeVenkateshFilms has made a good and emotional film.
Elderly people, urban audience and youngstars must watch it to get a most important and relevant social message. Kudos to the whole team. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The narrative may have its fair share of shortcomings, particularly in the writing that contributed to a subdued second half (with the sole exception of the ending), it still managed to evoke an wide spectrum of emotions that such stories are meant to inspire.
As someone who values emotional connections with on-screen characters, I found the experience to be cathartic. Even though I do not typically gravitate towards family dramas, this one struck a chord that set it apart from others.
Not to mention, performances by both Anashua Mam and Mithun Daa were profoundly moving; their portrayals felt sincere and, most importantly genuine in intent.
Lastly I just wanna say, take care of your Mom & Dad they have sacrificed much for your well being all they seek in return is your love and affection.
They won't ask for anything more, once they are gone, nothing will ever be the same. Cherish every moment while you can.
