1.5 hours of my life I can't get back

Surprised they had a budget to produce this movie and then actually finish it off. Poor acting, unrealistic martial arts and plot.

First the movie is really discursive where you can't even follow it. You don't even know who the characters are (who are the good guys or bad guys, why they are fighting each other, etc.) There's no time indicator on whether this movie is set in the future or???? Continuity is terrible.

If you love C-rated movies this is it!

Horrible acting, boring story line, complete waste of time. Levy/Gutierrez should go back to underwear modeling.

Horrible acting, boring story line, complete waste of time. Levy/Gutierrez should go back to underwear modeling and Spanish soap operas. Leave the acting for real actors. Anpretty face and a hot physique does not constitute acting talent. Do not waste your time watching this film, let alone spend your money buying the DVD.

an embarrassment

This film, subsidized by the Oklahoma Film Rebate Commission or something similar, was a lame attempt. Neither the plot nor the characters were developed, the acting quality was sad, and the fight scenes were high school. The Kingdom appeared to comprise a village of 9 or 10 funky black tents and had a similar number of warriors, while the Dominion (opposing dark side) had a few buildings made out of stone and perhaps 20 or 30 warriors. One reviewer said it was better than expected. I would hate to think what it was that he was expecting. The Film Rebate Commission should get their rebate back.

To watch the Unwatchable

The only reason to watch this movie is because it is so unwatchable. The Veil is a movie where the soul of Ed Wood is resurrected into the body of whoever directed this and then goes to an artsy film school, then takes way too many mushrooms and cannabis gummy bears, then somehow gets $300,000.00 and makes a movie.

Waste of $16.95

I bought this movie after reading the sleeve. It sounded good. Made popcorn kenneled the dogs and sat to enjoy a good movie. Well it wasn't I watched the whole thing waiting for something to happen, and it doesn't. At the end of the movie I was actually glad it was over. Turned on regular TV and watched an episode of American Pickers I had seen about 3 times before. It was more fulfilling.

Huh?

Whom ever wrote the good reviews for this film are smoking that Jumanji!! I was infinitely more amused reading these reviews. No idea what the actual movie was about, who was supposed to be who, where, when, what let alone the why! Seriously, read the reviews, skip the movie. Somethings you're better off not knowing/seeing yourself.

Alternative Logline Suggestion

Alternate logline: Once upon a time, two films got together to have a child. Melancholia the mother; Conan the Barbarian the father. Unfortunately, the film they birthed was dropped on it's head during delivery and is now known as The Veil.

Many of the other reviews handled some of the finer details of the film's shortcomings with more precision, but the story is a mess, it's overreaching and underachieving, the stakes seem lacking. One small example that's not a spoiler because it's so early in the film: We're expected to believe this is an alien planet, (or possibly an alternate Earth) but there are no aliens, only a shot in the sky for VFX to support such a thing. There are no likable characters or performances (aside from the old man at the end) and not any humor to speak of other than some painfully long pauses in the middle of fight choreography here and there.

As a couple of pros for the movie: The film's makeup and wardrobes were great. The scenery is fine. It's shot decently.

TLDR; The writing was horrible. It doesn't go anywhere. Watch Conan or Melancholia instead.

A solid feature film by Oklahoman

Went to a screening of an a advance cut of this action/drama at deadCENTER a few years back. While only of rough cut you could see the potential. Beautiful landscapes and production design. I have never seen a film show Oklahoma look so good. While the acting was strong the story at times was difficult to track. But it was only a rough cut.

After the screening the filmmaker talked about how it was "an ambitious project that didn't really have enough of a budget to support the vision."

All things consider I think its worth checking out.

Pretty Damn Good

I think some of the negative reviews here are by people who didn't get chosen to be a part of the movie! lol

For a non-Hollywood film, this is way above par.

The cinematography is super. Honestly, it's better than most big budget films.

The acting was strong overall, maybe not Zera, but the Warrior was on track.

Sets and costuming were well done and the setting - wow! what a way to use nature to your advantage!

OK, so the plot was ....sparse and not well explained, but hey --- these people weren't quite sure what the hell happened themselves, right?

I have no idea what I just watched

I have no idea what the plot of this movie is... there are dream sequences and flashbacks and flash forwards and nothing is explained. The lack of a decent plot is actually quite astounding; really no point in trying to follow along. The dialogue is completely incoherent and confuses you just as much as the swerving plot does.

The only reason this doesn't get a 1, is because the wardrobe department hit this out of the park. The actors had great costumes and looked quite beautiful, they just had nothing else to work off of.

This is what happens...

...when you mix pseudo-eastern philosophy at a grade school level with native american symbology(including buffalo...) with a poor screenwriter and at best(and that rarely) mediocre actors in a post-apocalyptic(?) semi fantasy setting. Sound like a mess? Yup.

Strangely enough I think the mixed euro accented actors probably bugged me more than the buckskin gis. Abysmal choreography of the fight scenes left me longing for a jumping out at you POW! ala Batman. On yet another strange note the directing somehow managed to make this 85 min loser seem like i was 4 hours long.

Fan of B movies, ok with old out of sync martial arts movies and 60s/70s Japanese samurai movies. This one is just incredibly bad on all levels.

Free on Netflix, way over priced.

Not Particularly Enjoyable

Netflix "recommended" this movie to me. Normally it would be something I would have enjoyed but the plot, such as it was, was nebulous. Things didn't hook up and the whole mess was difficult to follow. After what was probably the most unsatisfactory ending I have ever watched I was grateful the movie was over.

Positives for the film are good fighting, sparring, and training scenes, nice location scenery, and the hot bod on the main character. While not usually an aspect I would comment on at least it made the film bearable. (I'm probably not allowed to say that these days but there it is. If he objects he can contact me and I'll change the verbiage.)

Possibly worst film I've seen in a decade.

Possibly the worst film I've seen in a decade. The plot is utter nonsense. Mysterious prophesies meaning nothing. The characters are a shambles. First good. Then bad. Then good again. Then bad. Who cares? At last, he finds the magic sword then doesn't use it. At the end, the writers couldn't figure out what to do so they just stopped. For a college film, I'd give it a B for costumes. Don't waste your time.

Not as bad as I imagined

Yes, the story lacks depth in understanding. Yes, the special effects are mediocre at best. Yes, it's confusing. Yes, it was low budget. But hey, it kept me awake and intrigued to see it till the end. Try it.

Longest 85 minute movie I ever watched!

This movie moved so slow... I was looking forward to it finally ending my agony. I don't think I've ever checked the time so much in one movie! If it ran at the correct pace, it probably would've been 30 minutes tops. Obviously a low budget film. The acting is mediocre, the scenes are repetitive, the "fight" scenes are bad and unrealistic, the filming and lighting made the movie appear as if it was filmed in the 1980's...not in 2017. And on top of all that, the end leaves you contemplating, "Huh?!" I cannot figure out how it managed to get over two stars. People rating this must be super bored and watch a lot of low quality shows to think that this is anything but awful.

William Levy

he is the lead motif to see the film. if you are one of the admirers of him and less viewers of soap opera series. because the film has not other virtues. except the fragments of nature.fight scenes, a mix of fairy tale/video game/ Medieval and post apocalyptic atmosphere, pieces of sketches as story, a body in each position as source of interest, large territories of ambiguity. it is easy to define it as a bad film. but this conclusion could be too bitter. it is one of many predictable films, illustration of good intentions and a spoon of ambition, with a so precise target and good opportunity for kill the evening after a hard work day. nothing more.except, maybe, the landscapes, the references to classic Sci.Fi/fantastic films and, off course, the clichés.

Confusing

I honestly cannot say what I just watched. I have lost 2 hours trying to understand and just don't. The storyline was clean (kingdom in peril, warrior hero, and princess in hiding), unfortunately the execution will leave you pausing and rewinding to try and piece together what is going on. The movie is only 85 minutes long but in my desperate attempts to understand, I kept rewinding.

What just happened?

The only thing worthy in the movie is the scenery in the film. Some of the special effects like the two worlds forming an eclipse are also memorable. Besides those two things and the costumes being decent, the film is not worth your time. "The Veil" has bad acting from beginning to end, and it's from almost all the actors. However, to give the actors some credit, it's hard to have good acting when it's a completely horrible script. The plot is actually okay, but ridiculously awful delivery and setup to get there. Not to mention the atrocious fight sequences, despicable editing, and one of the worst endings ever! It's also stupid to see the main hero walk like a robot during his battles. Unless, you just have absolutely nothing to do, don't waste your time!

Best movie to watch!

So, my spouse and I have this dynamic where he turns on movies and I do the thing where I'm reading or surfing Facebook or literally anything other than paying much attention, with occasional moments of brief interest. This ultimately leads me to ask questions of what's going on, and him playfully teasing me about how I do this all the time, and he explains the movie to me.

Folks, this movie is a game changer, let me tell you!

This movie had us both wondering what the heck is going on, which clearly gave me the upper hand tonight.

Solid "true movie" attemption

All right, it's not a masterpiece. And if you're used to Hollywood super-productions, with incredible special effects, The Veil can only be a disappointment.

But there is more than this, another kind of cinema exists: there's people who, with infinitely more limited means, try to build a story. And this the point where The Veil becomes interesting. We don't find super-explosions and hipertechnological monsters came out from a computer graphic processor: all we got are people in flesh and blood and a story.

Is the plot slightly confused? Yes, it's true. Can any of these actors be nominated for an Oscar, today or in the future? Absolutely not. Is there a poverty that most often leaves you astonished? Very true.

It would be simple under these conditions to bet everything on special effects, more some free sex and violence scenes. Instead, the director has chosen the hardest path: making a real film, in a true ambient, with sensible dialogues, and a story that, if not original, at least is tangible. Instead of another miserable SyFy's style production, here's a movie. Even with all its flaws (and there are many), I think the intention must be rewarded.

Absolutely horrible

Ridiculous story and possibly the worst acting I've ever seen. I've seen kids on the playground stage more realistic fight scenes, and there is nothing of substance to the movie other than fight scenes. This isn't one of those movies that are so bad they have a train wreck kind of appeal ... this one is simply unwatchable.
