At long last.... I have Hoped and prayed the series would stick to the story. The characters I have known so well now more than just a voice inside my mind. The series is like the vision I have seen while reading has come to life. Yes, the costumes might feel a bit off and the acting isn't Hollywood superstar level but despite its quirky moments I LOVE it!!!!!
I hope we will see future season telling the full story of each of the Brotherhood's characters. From page to screen took a while but these stories need to be told across both mediums. Ow that I've had a taste I will be back for each and every episode.
More more more please!

Going into this, I'll be honest - my expectations were low. When I first heard the Black Dagger Brotherhood books were being adapted, I didn't expect much, especially given the challenges of translating such a beloved series and the likelihood of a smaller budget.
But after following a few behind-the-scenes clips and teasers on TikTok, I was surprised by the production quality. Considering the probable budget constraints, the results are genuinely impressive. As a long-time fan of the books, just seeing these characters brought to life on screen was exciting - but what really surprised me was how decent the first episode actually was!
Most of the acting was solid, with Beth, Darius and butch standing out in particular - they felt authentic and grounded. Wrath came across a little flatter by comparison, but I think that's more a challenge of the medium than the performance. In the books, so much of Wrath's complexity is internal, and it's hard to translate that depth without access to his thoughts. I get why that might come off differently on screen.
The lead Lesser(forgive me, I forget his name) was genuinely fantastic. Creepy, unsettling, exactly what you want from a villain. And Billy? I already hate him, but in the best way possible. That's clearly the point, and it's working.
All in all, I think the show has done incredibly well with what they had to work with, and I believe fans of the series will be happy. I really hope they get the chance to continue and find their rhythm - to fall into their own as a show. Yes, at times the dialogue can feel a bit forced, and there are moments where non-readers might struggle with the world-building, but honestly, those are minor flaws. Especially for a project on a lesser-known streaming platform like Passionflix.
Given the source material, the passion behind the project, and the clear effort from the cast and crew, they've done a great job. Here's hoping for more seasons!

As a longtime and passionate fan of J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books-having read the series more times than I can count-watching it come to life on screen has been both surreal and a little nerve-wracking. The BDB world is vast, gritty, sensual, and deeply emotional, and any adaptation was bound to face the challenge of doing justice to such an immersive universe. While the show isn't perfect, there's enough promise here to keep me tuning in-and holding out hope.
Casting & Characters The casting is solid overall. The brothers are depicted as larger-than-life and fiercely masculine, which matches the vivid imagery from the books. They're not exactly as I imagined, but the actors bring enough physicality and presence to the roles to hold their own. The women-voluptuous and commanding in the novels-are equally beautiful on screen. While there are minor deviations, most of the leads captured the spirit of their characters adequately. There's a grounded, simmering intensity that works well when the story leans into emotional beats.
Tone & Atmosphere Yes, the production clearly operates on a tighter budget. The sets and visual effects aren't as lush or expansive as some may have hoped. The mansion, for example, lacks the grandeur described in the books. The city feels a bit small-scale for Caldwell's gritty vampire underground. But despite that, the essence of the world-the danger, the secrecy, the brotherhood-is there. With better lighting, grittier cinematography, and deeper investment in set design, it could level up quickly.
Faithfulness to the Source For diehard fans, the series lands somewhere between faithful and interpretive. It hits most of the major beats and iconic moments, but some nuances are understandably trimmed or altered for screen pacing. I'm cautiously optimistic that future seasons will dig deeper into the raw emotional vulnerability that defines the Brotherhood-not just the fights and fangs, but the scars, the loyalty, and the slow-burning romances that made the books so unforgettable.
Final ThoughtsThe TV adaptation of Black Dagger Brotherhood may not have the polish of a high-budget fantasy epic, but it does have heart-and for longtime readers like me, that counts for a lot. The actors are promising, the story is (mostly) respected, and the emotional undercurrents are beginning to surface. If the showrunners continue to stay true to the characters' humanity and heartbreak, while balancing the series' signature raw masculinity, then this could be the start of something truly worthy of the books we've loved for years.
Rating: 7.5/10 - A solid, heartfelt start with room to grow. For the Brotherhood, I'll keep watching.

No doubt about this, I loved this. Made the movie in my head when I read the books, come to life. Actor selection was spot on, loved how it stuck so closely to the books. Wrath is just as toe curling as I pictured and I cannot wait for the next instalment to see the love story with Beth unfold. Was it $1 billion cinematic masterpiece, no, but it was everything that I needed for curl up at home, on my couch, get lost in the story, evening. I cannot wait to see the character development and pray that they will do at least the next five, hopefully ALL the books on Passionflix. You have got a dedicated watcher here.
This series is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. The book series is incredible and this series on Passionflix is staying true to the books making it amazing! The cast is spectacular! The special effects, the directing, the score and episodes are truly outstanding! If you have not jumped into this world by any means, this will reel you in quickly and prompt you to read the books as well. Each episode leaves you wanting for more and more. The episodes drop at 12:01am Thursday mornings and I am there for it and will continue to be! The BDB fan base crashed the sight the first day the first episode dropped! Come join this outstanding journey!
Tosca and JR Ward did an excellent job of capturing the magic of this world and bringing it to life on screen. The brothers are fabulous!!! Everything is exactly as I imagined it as I read this book series. This was always my favourite book series and I was a little apprehensive about how it was going to be portrayed but all my expectations were exceeded. I am looking forward to seeing each brothers books brought to life on the screen. I am currently dreaming everything BDB lately and can't wait to see where Tosca and JR Ward take this series. I hope this is going to continue to be produced for many years to come.

Read all the books so I had to see the show. It was a solid B effort. I say that because I was so distracted with the terrible wig on Wrath that I had trouble staying focused on storyline. Seriously. In the love scene, Beth almost pulls the wig off. Can't they use creative license and have him shear his hair off in some ritual of grief for a fallen brother? Then they'd just have to dye his hair black and the actor can still be beautiful and menacing without coming off like a teen girl doing hair flips. And, though I like the actress who plays Beth, I'm afraid Passionflix is going to go the way of the Hallmark channel and recast her in everything as if there are only four actresses on Planet Earth. I'm going to watch all the episodes, but I hope they tighten up some things that give it a low budget vibe.

Bringing a decades old book series to a TV series that has a huge, dedicated fan base is difficult enough. Then add the challenge of the main male characters as these huge 6'5" vampires built like tanks, it really makes casting agents cringe. I'll be honest and say that I wasn't too hopeful when the early set photos were released. This cast put in the work to learn their characters. Tosca worked with JR Ward to really get the script and sets right. Episode 1...they nailed it. This is the first book adaptation that really stayed true to the book, using the same dialog from the book, and involved the author with casting and script approval. PassionFlix doesn't have the budget like the major channels like HBO, Starz, Netflix, etc, but then again, there would be too much interference and fans wouldn't get to see the real Black Dagger Brotherhood that we love. I've seen episode 2 and loved it. Can't wait until Thursday...or Wednesday night just past midnight for episode 3.

Oh boy! What IS this? I was hoping to see a serious vampire series and I got lost in this unbelievably inconsistent and unprofessional mess that seems to have been filmed an acted for some college theater project. The actors are terrible - either wooden like the main guy, or overreacting like his irritating main squeeze.
There are details that make no sense and are not explained in any way and besides the fact that two people/vampires who only just met are already butt naked together in bed, this first episode was cringe as hell. Then I saw it was produced by Passionflix and no other than Musk's sister...that explains the bad taste.

This episode was FUN! What a great start to the series. This was the most ambitious of Passionflix's productions to date with scale and special effects and they blew it out of the park! The casting is spot on, the dialogue is straight out of the books, and the scenery is exactly how I pictured it in my mind. I'm so excited to watch the next 5 episodes. I have been reading the books for about 10 years now and they are so pleasantly different than the standard vampire faire. I recommend this to any reader of the series. You will not be disappointed.
2 stars were removed due to some of the scenes being cheesy or just off somehow. I have no doubt they will get better as they progress and get more comfortable with their characters. In no way is that bad in my book though, this was obviously done with love of the lore and respect for the author. Mad props Passionflix, keep up the good work and you've more than earned your subscription fee.

Loved the books, definitely don't like this adaptation. Besides the fact that it's basically nothing more than soft porn, the acting is terrible and the characters lack depth. Of course it's Passionflix, and they have to stick to a limited budget, but perhaps the actors could concentrate more on their 'acting' than on showing their bare asses and rolling around in bed. I read very enthusiastic comments about the first episode in BDB fan groups and I'm amazed by how the average 'aficionada' lacks critical thinking. As long as they get naked, muscular men, they are won over. But if that's what it takes to make all the hormone-crazed housewives happy...Let's hope it will get better.

I've been a fan for over 15 years and have read the books more times than I can remember. To say Passionflix did a good job is an understatement!
I've onñy watched the first episode but very single character and scene was played out like in the book it is based on.
Wrath, the King comes across as cold, until he meets her... he wears sunglasses but his scenes are filmed in a way that you know he's in control Beth is going through some stuff, and to top it off, she meets him... her scenes are intense and grip your heart... the one in front of the mirror... oof!!
Butch... wow, Butch! The attitude, the accent... absolute PERFECTION!
In the first episode, we only get small glimpses of the rest of the Brothers, but they leave you wanting so much more!
Fritz is absolutely adorable and just like in the books, just wants to be useful and help!
Even the lessers are on point. Mr X? Hello!? What a creep! But so so much like in the books it is eerie.
The series may not have the biggest budget or be on the biggest platform, but the work and love that has been poured into this series is evident in every clip.
If you truly love the BDB books, the characters and the author, you will love the series just as much.

The actor's are doing an amazing job! And love so some of the brothers are from EU and Australia. It's makes the show so much more real!
It's amazing to see a new show film around a city and not only a build set or green screen l. It's do so much for the show and get into it.
They have done so much to let the show be so good, and as a smaller studio they really pull off the show. Did so much to go after the book and bought so many ekstra things to make the first season the best way possible. I can can't imagine how much more they gonna do for season 2, or all the chances they can do after season 1.

I was ready to hate this. I WANTED to hate this; but I'm hooked!
From the early 2000's graphics, to the dated costumes and questionable stylistic choices, the director said screw writing an adaptation and took directly from the source material and gurl ... I had so much fun!
It took me back to reading the first book of the series in my 20's and it was a treat knowing exactly what to expect because they followed the story faithfully!
This isn't going to be for everyone, but for those of us who have read the books ... well, like I said, I wanted to hate it.
Great job everybody!
BDB is my new dirty pleasure💖

This is my Opinion:
This is even worse than I thought. I am trying to find out why they turned the books into a soap opera. BDB visuals are blurry, like a 90s VHS. Lighting's terrible, too dark or washed out, a blurry mess.
This "amateur" Cinematography is just very bad.
BDB weapons look like dollar store props, plastic daggers. Daggers look cheap, no menace. Even the blurry shots can not hide it. Butch's Glock feels real, only good weapon prop. Lesser weapons .. I do not even want to go there!
Height of the actors do not match. It is laughable.
Fight scenes lack punch, feel staged and slow. Fights are poorly choreographed, moves look rehearsed and stiff. Just terrible.
Acting is "flat", age mismatch & lack of chemistry. Are they reading lines off a cue card?? Are they even actors?
Is this a school play with Amateurs ??!
Positive: Piotr Witkowski as Darius and Michael Roark as Butch O'Neal are the only ones that fit the books and can act. Piotr's Polish vibe nails Old Country, Roark's Butch is perfect, only good acting in this mess.
Both did a great job! And they are the only ones.
The Rest: Robert Maaser's "slouchy" acting and posture incl weak laughable fight scenes, making Wrath seem "unconvincing" as a warrior king, Wrath's fight scenes are weak, Maaser wooden, no royal Wrath. Slouchy and boring. He looks like he has a herniated disc... absolute miscast.
Not even want to talk about that very fake looking wig.
Lesser "cartoon villains," undermining tension, so this is slap stick.
Sia Zami's "weak" acting as Vishous, is the "Gaga's medic" but no Vampire of any of the books and no fierce warrior.
Rhage, Phury and Z are also bad do not fit the books at all.
Olivia Applegate's "flat" acting and age mismatch & lack of chemistry. Beth is lifeless, like she's reading lines off a cue card! Also no passion. And she looks like 40 and not like a 25 year old!
The teaser and trailer already showed the lack. But somehow you hope for better. If there is NOTHING good, from the filming, over wigs, weapons, make up.. all the way to the actors.. what can you say?

As a longtime fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, I'm honestly blown away by how true this adaptation is! The casting, the energy, and even the dialogue feel like they were pulled straight from JR Ward's world! It's sexy, intense, emotional, and dark with just the right touch of cringe in the best way! Passionflix nailed it and I'm already counting down to the next episode! We absolutely need a Season 2! I've reread the books and seeing them come to life like this is beyond satisfying! It's rare to find an adaptation that respects the source material this deeply! I'm completely obsessed!

How is this getting so many positive reviews? It must obviously be someone paid by the studio to do so. There is no way in heck anyone can watch this and seriously rate it 8/10 or whatever. It doesn't make any sense.
Nobody in their right mind can watch this absolute drivel and rate it any higher than a 1.
The script/line delivery/acting is nothing short of abysmal. The.... I'm not even going to continue.
Just watch the trailer and if you aren't keen enough to see what utter trash this is then there's little help for it. I realize everyone has their own tastes but dear lord. I haven't taken a dive into the main actors other projects and their ratings and likewise the creators/directors etc other projects but I'm willing to be their overall ratings will be low. But then again, the overall rating for this isn't as low as I would have thought either so who knows.

Honestly...I waited for the second episode before commenting hoping it would get better. It hasn't. Everything looks like a cheap college project. Darius's house is supposed to be this amazing mansion...it looks like a cluttered B&B. While the actors look good enough, except for Olivia who keeps making mad dog faces instead of smiling, but they obviously weren't chosen for their acting skills. There is absolutely no explanation for any of the weird events that BDB readers may be familiar with but that will definitely frustrate someone who has never heard of them before. I wish the sex-crazed housewives who make 99% of the fans of BDB would stop inflating the ratings.

This is absolutely wonderful. I feel that I have stepped straight into Black Dagger Brotherhood Novels. Admittedly, a bit scary lingering in the mind of JR Ward but a thrill I won't relinquish. The hardest part is waiting week after week for episodes and knowing it is going to come to an end. I can't say enough about the actors. Although I am not familiar with any of them, they have quickly become favorites. The crew has delightfully brought the Brothers to life. Both avid readers and those clueless to the series will not be disappointed. Strap up and dive in. Pun intended 😉 😉 😜 .You're craving for the brothers, suspense, fantasy, love, and action will intensify.
Oh my stars, where to start? With no prior knowledge of the books I saw the entire series plot delivered in the first 6 minutes. And it's ridiculously shallow. I had to double check that wasn't made in the late 80's. Nope, it really was created in 2025. The story is so cliche I assume its author is a middle aged goth who simply dotes on the Twilight 'saga' and Anne Rice but somehow failed to embrace, or understand, the more, nuanced literary concepts. It reeks of all the sophistication of 1982 prepubescents dream of a 'totally cool' vampire comic. The dialogue was clearly devised by two 13 year old boys in between playing Skyrim and watching reruns of Baywatch. It would be a surprise to none if Steven Seagal turned out to be the producer, director and the Master vampire. It's really that bad. I can't think of a word or phrase that expands on how terminally cliche and dumb this truly is. Best singular scene that supports my view is the 'English' butler addressing his leather clad goth mop boss whilst backing out the room in a deferential series of bows saying, "as you wish Master." Or something similarly stupid circa 1932 B movie. I hold my breath in anticipation of more episodes making me cringe guffaw as much as the first did.

I just finished watching the first episode of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, and I honestly didn't expect to be this impressed. Going into it, I knew it wouldn't be a massive high-budget production, but what it might lack in scale, it absolutely makes up for in heart, atmosphere, and dedication.
To my surprise (and delight), I found myself completely drawn in. Rath and Beth? I loved them. Their dynamic was so compelling, and there's something about the way their story is being told that feels both intimate and larger-than-life. You can really feel that J. R. Ward and director Tosca Musk poured themselves into this project, not just as creators, but as true fans of the world they've built.
The soundtrack and musical choices were another highlight for me. Every note felt intentional, and the background sounds helped elevate the emotional depth of each scene. It's clear that the production team worked hard to create an immersive experience, and for me, they absolutely succeeded.
I genuinely enjoyed it far more than I expected, and I sincerely hope more people give this show a chance. There's so much potential here, and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

Here's a fresh take from the heart of a 20-year die hard fan of the Brotherhood, no critic hat, just pure fangirling.
Going into the Black Dagger Brotherhood on Passionflix, I won't lie, I was anxious. After loving these books for over two decades, I worried any screen version would feel flat. But guess what? The first episode genuinely surprised me in the best way. I just finished episode 3, and each episode keeps getting better.
Yes, Passionflix might not be HBO, but there's real care here. From the dimly lit streets of Caldwell to the way Wrath's world comes to life. It's clear Tosca Musk and team hit the nail on the head with the authentic feel and mood. I felt the atmosphere I've craved from the pages of the book.
Beth and Darius really spoke to me. Olivia & Piotr capture their chemistry beautifully.
Wrath, Robert, comes across a bit quieter than I imagine. In the books, so much of his power is in his internal world. Internal dialogue is hard to translate to the screen. But his stoicism lands just right, and you can see his strength of character. Butch is Butch. Exactly the cocky arrogant cop I love. Michael nails the Boston accent and attitude. (I tried to use the actor's full names, but this stupid review won't post with them.)
The lead Lesser is creepy and unsettling. I'm going to love to hate this guy. They capture that "otherworldly" threat so well.
Dialogue has that classic BDB blend and sometimes something extra, occasionally over-the-top, but it's part of the charm. Non-readers might scratch their heads-but we fans will be kicking our legs with delight.
Yes, some world-building feels sudden, but I know the lore so I'm happily going along. I can already feel us finding our on-screen rhythm.
Final Fan Verdict This feels like a 'passion project', not a paycheck gig. With J. R. Ward's blessing, Tosca's heart behind it, and a team that clearly love these characters, Passionflix delivered a surprisingly strong kickoff.
Will it be perfect? Nope. Will it give me chills remembering my first read of 'Dark Lover'? Absolutely.
I'm here for the ride. Here's to more seasons, deeper chemistry, and more memorable Brotherhood moments. True?
As someone who's loved these books since they first hit shelves, I'm thrilled. This adaptation isn't flawless-but feels rooted in love, and after 20 years, that's all I could've asked for.

I have to agree with a lot of folks who mention that the story isn't as coherent to folks who haven't read the books. But then, we all read the first book for the first time and had to trust Ward to carry us along and fill in the blanks. Just hang in there or, better yet, read the books, then return.
As for effects, remember Passionflix is a fledgling studio primarily making steamier versions of Hallmark movies. They're learning as they go. So far, I give them good marks - I mean, Supernatural and Grimm were pretty cheesy to start, and look where they ended up. I'm sure the visuals will just keep getting better.
Overall, a must-see for any dedicated reader of the series, utterly faithful to the book.
