Before I write my review i have to admit I was already a fan of Oikonomidis, because I believe his films, through deliberate exaggeration, touch on a very real side of Greek life for many families.
However, in this film he truly shows how much he has matured as a director without losing his unconventional character. To begin with, the dialogues no longer have the excessive repetitions found in his previous films. As a result, they feel so realistic that the viewer practically steps into the protagonist's shoes and starts to believe they are the ones owing money!
In terms of screenplay, this is perhaps his best and most complete work. This is hinted at from the very first scene with the turtle, which essentially alludes to a person "drowning" in debt and desperately trying to catch a breath.
Finally, the film delivers one of the most powerful endings I've seen, almost like a modern ancient tragedy. Possibly the best Greek film I've watched since Mourikis' The King. It's a film the average Greek will watch in one breath, but I also highly recommend it to all my foreign friends because it perfectly represents both Greek behavior and everything that goes wrong in terms of mentality in my country.

The film "Spasmeni Fleva", starring Vasilis Bisbikis, offers a deep allegory about the society and political landscape of contemporary Greece. While the film aims to provoke thought and highlight deeper meanings, its slow pace and lack of light-hearted entertainment may make it less appealing to the average viewer. However, for those seeking a film with depth and symbolism, this one may prove interesting.
We follow Thomas father, lover, businessman trying to repay their debts.
They will go through every way to do so, ask, beg, bully, sell and lie.
In what can be seen as a critical allegory to the last 2 greek generations the director seems most mature than ever. The film avoids being deeply stressful through comic relief moments.
Athenian raw realism is the scenery for Thomas's odyssey who in Black mercedes is trying to save his house.

A masterpiece. Definitely Oikonomides' most mature film. It's the first time in such a long while that I've felt so connected to a movie - I have no words to describe it. Sincere congratulations to everyone involved.
I believe that if this particular film had been made in Hollywood, it would have been Oscar-worthy.

One of the worst over-hyped films that were made in our country recently. Utterly boring & extremely long 2 hours, linear "plot" & almost no events, for the most part. The director applied his classic recipe: loud monologs of people shouting at each other & cursing, nothing surprising really, we've seen it again & again in his films. And of course these scenes occupy more than half of the run time. Overally hollow & empty, no social commentary, no nothing.
The acting was decent, but with such a script what does it matter? I also noticed some people praised this film for its realism, yet the single dramatic event of this film is the outcome of impossible coincidences.

- QuizThis is the first Yiannis Economides film after Spirtokouto (2002) in which actor Vangelis Mourikis does not play a role in it, but only have script credits.
