The Other South Bank

This short documentary film tells the story of the other South Bank in the United Kingdom, the one that is in Teeside instead of in the South Bank of the River Thames, London.

"The Other South Bank" wastes no time in showing the worrying state of abandonment of the Teeside town. This used to be a bustling town with a thriving ship building industry, where residents enjoyed a great community spirit. This changed when Margaret Thatcher announced job cuts, putting many families' livelihoods at stake. The film shows how rows of houses are boarded up, like some kind of ghost town. It is so sad to see towns failed like this. It is really wrong to have some parts of the country over-populated, while others like South Bank abandoned. I hope things can be done to help this other South Bank, so it can be a nice place to live in again.
