Nice storyline

The storyline is really nice. I believe the casting is not that perfect. When you are making a show which talks about a city in Bihar and UP, the characters should be from those regions so that they can touch the soul of UP and Bihar. Here, most of the cast(main characters )are either from Maharashtra or Rajasthan who might have taken training on the language and dialect but didn't understand Bihar and UP. Also, the PR team made a big mistake comparing this to Panchayat which has done a great job in casting. I feel overall the storyline is really good but the casting is bad. Ex: If you hear Renuka Sahay, it feels artificial and doesn't touch my heart.

A Worthy Attempt, But Will It Live Up to Panchayat?

If there's one thing that's hard for Dupahiya to escape, it's the massive shadow of Panchayat. Let's face it, Panchayat was a game-changer. It set a gold standard for rural-based comedy dramas, and the expectations from any new show trying to do something similar are bound to be sky-high.

Dupahiya, steps into this territory with a story set in the small village and honestly, it gives off Panchayat vibes in the first few minutes. The slow-paced, village-life charm, the ensemble cast, the small-town dynamics, it all feels familiar. But it's also quite different in its own right. It has a slightly more comedic, lighter tone, especially with its plot being more focused on the villagers' ridiculous, yet endearing, antics rather than the deeper, more grounded storytelling of Panchayat. The show does have moments where you think it could veer into that Panchayat-style emotional depth, but it stops short and keeps things breezy.

That said, the show does stumble in some areas. Take the entire subplot of getting the bike from Pintu bhai. Sure, it's meant to add some humor and build the tension, but it just feels unnecessarily prolonged. By the time the bike situation is resolved, you're not laughing as much as you're wondering why it took so long. The whole ordeal with Pintu bhai could've been trimmed down, and the story might've moved at a better pace.

This one bit where the characters dress up as women for a dance performance. It's clearly just there for laughs, but honestly, it feels a bit forced. It's the kind of humor that feels like the writers are trying too hard to push in that "random" comedy that we've all seen in countless shows.

However, It's a light, fun show with a good heart, and it ends on a solid note, which is a huge plus. The conclusion definitely shows that the creators know where they're going with the story, and it gives you hope that future episodes could be better.

As for the acting, the cast does a decent job, but Gajraj Rao, who plays the Jha family head, doesn't really seem to shine here. His performance felt a bit off, or maybe it was the plot that didn't give him enough room to flex his acting chops.

There's definitely potential here for the show. It's not Panchayat, but it's got a unique flavor of its own. For now, it's an enjoyable watch, but whether it can carve out a lasting legacy is something we will have wait and see.

Touch of comedy and thriller

Amazing series... The accent the dialogue the story everything felt soo much organic and humourous.... Mind blowing work done by bhuvan arora and sparsh both .... Sparsh expressions on each dialogue was top notch ... It's a Feel good series which you can watch with your whole family .... A normal simple storyline about dupahiya ( bike) but in an engaging and funny way ... Rating this 8/10 ... Amazing story and screenplay ... Fabulous dialogues and a very nice village touch in the series made it more new and fresh to watch .... You gonna love this if you liked panchayat.... It has a similar screenplay but it has its own touch of tragedy humour with suspense.

A breezy and delightful comedy that goes straight to the heart

A crime free village, a stolen bike - wedding gift purchased by the Jha family to fulfil the groom's sole demand, the village trying to hold the record of no theft in the village by not lodging the police complaint and a family where not a single person thinks by the brain forms the premise of the new series streaming on #AmazonPrimeVideo This series will immediately give you a feel of #Panchayat and the series delivers the same innocence, purity and simplicity.

It is an 8-day journey in a village called Dhadakpur and everything that happens in the village. Writers Chirag Garg and Avinash Dwivedi have beautifully created this 8-day world of a village and its issues, be it dowry, inferiority complex of a dark skinned girl, son trying to seek validation from his father, a Kleptomaniac whom everyone addresses as a thief and so on.

Each and every character of Dupahiya is beautifully acted & written to become an integral part of the story. Be it #ShivaniRaghuvanshi who is torn between her dreams and her lover, #SparshShrivastava who has ambition of becoming superstar by going to city, #BhuvanArora trying to prove himself and also showing his love to the girl, #SamarthMahor who plays Teepu has got the best lines and is so innocent that you will fall in love with the character. #AvinashDwivedi who is the creator of the series and the groom is superb that one hates him for all he does, especially the last dialogue.

The best part of Dupahiya is that the senior actors #GajrajRao and #RenukaShahane - act as strong supporters rather than as leaders of the series. #YashpalSharma as a Police also makes his presence count from a bad to good person.

"Dupahiya: A Joyride of Comedy and Village Charm"

"Dupahiya" is a refreshing comedy series set in the whimsical village of Dhadakpur, where a stolen wedding gift bike sets off a hilarious chain of events.

With its delightful mix of quirky characters, clever satire, and genuine heart, the series echoes the charm of shows like Panchayat and films like Welcome to Sajjanpur. The talented ensemble cast, led by Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Sparsh Srivastava, and Bhuvan Arora, brings warmth and authenticity to this tale of dowry dilemmas, social media dreams, and small-town pride. Crisp writing, natural performances, make "Dupahiya" a must-watch for anyone craving lighthearted entertainment with a touch of social commentary.

Good messaging

This series revolves around the discussion of dowry in Indian rural settings. The practice of dowry has been banned for more than fourty years in India. However, it is still practiced out there in the open. It is so commonplace that people don't ever hesitate in either giving or taking dowry. This series showcases the lengths an Indian family can go to fulfill the dowry demands, yet no police officer penalizes the offenders/groom.

The storyline is quite good, specially the messaging at the end. However, some parts seem elongated, specially in the middle episodes. Moreover, the ending seems rushed and everything happens so fast that it becomes impossible to follow. I would like to applaud for the makers in trying to highlight this social evil.

Suspense, excitement, moral, comedy, and many more

Very good series to watch. Storyline keeps you locked on your screen until the last episode, twist and turns are very good. Must watch. Dialogues are nice. Amavas and Bhugol both the characters are too good and their acting was superb. All senior actors are in their form. No words for their performance. Direction is very good. All the characters in the movie seems like they are themselves in real life. Just one advice if I could watch more of dollar , hahahahhahahaha I really liked that thing that owl can be ones son and luck. Too good story, acting , direction, . And the most cute character was Bhugol's friend Tipuu.

Not like panchayat

Just an average series which is based on village life. The standard set by Panchayat is hard to replicate. The story is ok with light hearted comedy. The series is just based on one single incident and focused on one family only. They have extended by adding incident related to dancing for owl, adding a Gunda which was not needed at all.

The cast is ok but not perfect. Renuka and amavas doesn't suit in this series. They are total miscast in this series. Bugol is bit overacting and cringe sometimes. Rest of the cast are just ok. It's just a one time watch but don't keep much expectation like panchayat.

Light hearted comedy

This is a fantastic comedy web series that brings humour and heart portrayed via rural life of India. The quirky characters, witty dialogues, and hilarious scenarios make it a joy to watch. The chemistry between the cast is genuine, and the production quality is top notch. The roles played by Gajraj Rao, Yashpal Sharma and Sparsh Shrivastava in particular are very impressive. The story line is good if not new, and keeps the viewers engaged throughout. It's a perfect series for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy some quality laugh. Hope the creators have planned for next season which I'm eagerly waiting.

A well mixed of Comedy + Mystery !

It's completely safe to watch with family and during my travel to Mathura I've watched this series with my family inside the moving Train. It was totally hilarious journey although little bit stretched down in the middle part and story progression is lacked a bit during that period in time. 9 Episodes for the Season 1 felt too much for sure, it could have been cut down till 5 or 6 Episodes ; that would have been great.. Anyway! If you wanna watch a Village based Comedy + Mystery web series then you should go for this 'Dupahiyaa' as a one time watch. From my side it will be 6 Out of 10 Stars for the Season 01...

Delightful Blend of Humor and Social Commentary

Dupahiya is a delightful comedy series that masterfully blends humor with subtle social commentary. Set in the fictional village of Dhadakpur, the narrative revolves around the disappearance of a two-wheeler, leading to a series of comedic and thought-provoking events.

The ensemble cast delivers standout performances. Gajraj Rao shines as Banwari Jha, a father anxious to find a husband for his daughter, Roshni. Renuka Shahane portrays the village pradhan, Pushplata Yadav, with charm and authority. The younger actors, Sparsh Srivastava and Bhuvan Arora, bring freshness and energy to their roles, adding depth to the storyline with their impeccable comic timing and heartfelt moments.

The series excels in its satirical approach, reminiscent of classic works by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. It cleverly addresses societal issues such as the dowry system, the urban-rural divide, and societal beauty standards without becoming preachy. The writing is sharp, with dialogues that capture the essence of rural life while remaining universally relatable. Director Sonam Nair crafts a world that feels authentic yet whimsical, allowing the audience to immerse themselves fully in the story.

In conclusion, Dupahiya is a refreshing addition to the comedy genre, offering a perfect blend of laughter and reflection. Its ability to tackle serious societal issues through satire makes it not just a source of entertainment but also a catalyst for conversation. Whether you're in it for the humor or the underlying messages, Dupahiya promises a fulfilling viewing experience.

Unique Storyline Concept

Dupahiya talks about multiple aspects of the problems in the society. From Gender Biasing , Colorism , Favoritism to other problems of the society. I loved the naming of the characters which if you see somewhere associates to the character. For e.g. Roshni means Bright which means fair color. Where as Kuber means the richness also leads to the greediness of the character. In between the humorous dialogue delivery from the supporting actors are enough to tickle your funny bones s Everything is in right place except the voice tone and language. I never understand when we put the storyline setup in UP or Bihar what is the need to talk in that artificial tone which actually doesn't fall in place. After seeing Panchayat I have high expectations from Dupahiya but after episode 5 it actually lost its charm.

Overall , Its a one time watch but don't expect much hence my rating is 6/10.

Poorly drafted & crafted...!!

The writing and the direction makes you realise one thing clearly : they're filmy...far from reality !! The desperate accents of talented bunch of actors trying to be what they're not makes you feel sorry for them 'coz the writing lets them down and unable to achieve what Panchayat did...catch the 'soul ' rather than the body ! The director should've done better but wasn't accustomed to the sense of rawness and simplicity of village life which in itself is so powerful that you don't require a filmy situation to glorify the scenes but unfortunately the director repeatedly does so and it becomes heavy for the viewer...

A Thrilling Adventure with a Fresh Concept

This story offers an incredibly adventurous plot, taking you on a journey full of unexpected twists and breathtaking turns. The narrative is not only engaging but also introduces a completely new concept that sets it apart from anything we've seen before. The world-building is impressive, and the characters are both relatable and complex, making it easy to get lost in the story. The way the plot evolves keeps you on the edge of your seat, as it continually introduces fresh ideas that challenge the norm. Overall, it's an exciting and thought-provoking experience that leaves a lasting impression.

If you're looking for something that feels both familiar and new at the same time, this is definitely worth your time.

**Review of the Dupahiya Series**

The *Dupahiya* series is a captivating and culturally rich collection of stories that has garnered significant attention for its unique blend of folklore, drama, and social commentary. Set in the heart of rural India, the series delves into the lives of its characters, exploring themes of tradition, superstition, power dynamics, and the struggle for justice. Here's a detailed review of the series:

---

### **Strengths:**

1. **Engaging Storyline:** The *Dupahiya* series is driven by a compelling narrative that keeps viewers hooked from the very beginning. The plot revolves around the mysterious and feared figure of the *Dupahiya* (a witch or supernatural entity), weaving together elements of suspense, drama, and emotion. Each episode builds tension, making it difficult to stop watching.

2. **Cultural Authenticity:** One of the standout features of the series is its deep connection to Indian rural culture and folklore. The portrayal of local traditions, superstitions, and societal norms feels authentic and immersive. The series sheds light on the often-overlooked aspects of rural life, offering a window into the struggles and beliefs of its people.

3. **Strong Performances:** The cast delivers powerful performances, bringing their characters to life with nuance and depth. The protagonist, often a strong-willed woman fighting against societal oppression, is particularly well-portrayed, evoking empathy and admiration from the audience. The antagonists, too, are convincingly menacing, adding to the show's intensity.

4. **Social Commentary:** Beyond its entertainment value, the *Dupahiya* series tackles important social issues such as gender inequality, caste discrimination, and the exploitation of the vulnerable. It uses the supernatural element as a metaphor for the real-life horrors faced by marginalized communities, making it both thought-provoking and relevant.

5. **Cinematography and Music:** The series is visually stunning, with lush landscapes and atmospheric lighting that enhance the eerie and dramatic tone of the story. The background score and folk-inspired music further elevate the viewing experience, adding to the emotional impact of key scenes.

---

### **Weaknesses:**

1. **Pacing Issues:** At times, the series suffers from uneven pacing, with certain episodes feeling drawn out or slower than necessary. While the buildup is often rewarding, some viewers may find the slower sections less engaging.

2. **Repetitive Tropes:** While the series does a great job of exploring its themes, it occasionally relies on repetitive tropes and predictable plot twists. This can make certain storylines feel less fresh or surprising over time.

3. **Overemphasis on Drama:** In its attempt to heighten emotional stakes, the series sometimes leans too heavily into melodrama, which may not appeal to all viewers. Some scenes could benefit from more subtlety and restraint.

---

### **Overall Impression:** The *Dupahiya* series is a bold and impactful show that successfully blends folklore with contemporary social issues. Its strong performances, cultural authenticity, and gripping narrative make it a standout in the realm of Indian web series. While it has its flaws, the series ultimately delivers a powerful and memorable viewing experience. It is a must-watch for fans of drama, folklore, and socially relevant storytelling.

---

**Rating: 4/5** The *Dupahiya* series is a commendable effort that shines in its storytelling and cultural representation, though it could benefit from tighter pacing and more innovative plot developments.

A Well-Acted Series with Some Authenticity Gaps

The performances in this series are truly commendable. All the young actors deliver wonderful performances, bringing energy and depth to their roles. The acting across the board is impressive, making the characters engaging and relatable.

However, there are some noticeable shortcomings in authenticity. Renuka Shahane's attempt at a Bihari accent falls short, making her character less convincing. Gajraj also seems to struggle in certain places, which slightly affects the overall impact.

One of the biggest drawbacks is the portrayal of village life. The dressing sense does not align with the reality of remote Indian villages. The use of light-colored, postal clothing, branded jeans, and an urban body language makes it hard to believe the setting. Village aesthetics typically involve earthy tones and a distinct, practical fashion style, which seems overlooked here.

Overall, while the series shines in performances, it loses points for not staying true to the rural setting. Hence, it lands at a 7/10-a strong show, but with room for better cultural detailing.

Stolen Bike in a Crime-Free Village

"Dupahiya" is a TV series set in the village of Dhadakpur, a place that has remained crime-free for 24 years, unlike the neighboring villages that have records of criminal activity. The show questions how just one area can be free of crime, hinting that it might not seem entirely believable or relevant.

The story kicks off from this premise. Roshni Jha, played by Shivani Raghuvanshi, is preparing to accept a marriage proposal. The groom demands a bike as dowry, and the bride's family agrees to provide a red Bullet bike. They purchase the bike, but it gets stolen-apparently due to Bhugol, though the exact reason remains unclear. In a village where crime is unheard of, the theft of the bike becomes a major incident. The plot then unfolds around whether the bike can be recovered or not.

Bhugol, who is Roshni's younger brother, and Amavas, her ex, stand out with their exceptional acting performances.

The series attempts to deliver some meaningful messages toward the end, such as the rejection of giving or taking dowry and the value of self-reliance-highlighted by the final episode titled "Atmanirvar" (self-reliant). These are commendable educational themes. However, compared to the series "Panchayat," which feels authentic and rooted in reality, "Dupahiya" falls short. It's evident that the actors are intentionally playing for laughs, aiming to entertain the audience with humor rather than portraying a realistic narrative.

A quirky village tale that rides high on humor

Dupahiya is a refreshing take on village life, set in a crime-free village in Bihar, with a strong social message at its core. The series blends dark comedy seamlessly into the everyday lives of villagers, capturing the quirks and struggles of different social classes in an engaging and relatable way.

While the screenplay feels stretched at times, it never drags, the storytelling is smooth and enjoyable, making it a pleasure to watch till the end. There aren't many shows like this in the market, which makes Dupahiya stand out. The simplicity of the story, combined with its inherent charm, keeps you hooked.

Sparsh Srivastava and Gajraj Rao deliver outstanding performances, breathing life into their characters with natural ease. Fans of Panchayat will definitely enjoy this one, as it offers a similar mix of humor, social commentary, and heartwarming moments.

One time watch with family

This is a story of a rural village Dhadakpur in Bihar. If you are looking for something to watch with family then this series is recommended. There are some silly comic scenes but the story keeps you glued till the last episode. A feel good series with a social message against dowry. Stereotypes regarding Bihar is prevalent throughout the series. The acting of Sparsh Shrivastav, Bhuvan Arora, Gajraj Rao and Yashpal Sharma is too the point. Even the supporting characters have played their part very well. The story is predictable yet engaging and very rarely gets boring at few spots. Overall a one time watch.

A pathetic attempt to tell a village story without village story.

This show is basically a just an attempt to garner as many views on plot of being a simple village story and fall miserably. They want to show villagers a dumb creatures who are just impractically portraite. The actors choosen were out of place, and just did a worse bihari dialect. First 2 episodes are good provide a decent start and then series fall flat and just gets confused to what to show. They try to hochpoch every social evil from dowry to colour racism to kleptomania and ending with women empowerment.

Everyone trying so hard to sound Bihari but none can. The show lacks innocence of a village, the atmosphere, the people you just don't feel connected with them. The main stroy has a nice potential but just sluggish somewhere and rushed somewhere. The show want you to take it seriously even when it itself take it very lightly. The jokes are copied from some reels or shorts video and some jokes are just to dumb to be funny just fall flat. Don't compare it to Panchayat not on story character acting music production it just an average everyday typically village story without the essence of village directed by someone who never witnessed Village.

Save your time. Don't watch it.

Acting, story, fun all in one

I loved this series, it holds you till you finish the entire series.

Every actor worked so well . Story line - simple but still engaging, comedy - natural comedy no senselesss jokes, this is what I call true comedy.

I was so good to see how they even touched the topic of fairness which can make even the strongest minded gal feel low self confidence. Renuka shahane such a good actress she should seriously come back and do more work. Industry needs actors like you.

Sparsh shrivastav wow absolutly best, nepo kids must see and learn the work he does.

Gajraj Rao - gre8 work. Every one even police man, bhugol's friend everyone worked good.

A must watch.
