The Tiger

First German movie by Amazon MGM to get a local theatrical release. I went to watch it yesterday with high hopes and tried to find more reasons to like it. Unfortunately it's a disappointment. Don't expect something on the same level as the critically acclaimed "All Quiet on the Western Front".

This movie looks like a compilation of moments from other movies that are much better, such as 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Apocalypse Now', 'Fury' and most notably the Russian anti-war movie 'White Tiger'.

And don't get me started on the authenticity of uniforms. I watched the end credits and was shocked to see that the movie was supported by historians and military advisors. I can only assume that both the director and producer ignored whatever advice they provided.

This film was a truly positive surprise for me. It clearly stands apart from the usual war movie copies and manages to create something unique and memorable.

The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the story takes you on a captivating journey - even if it might seem a bit implausible at first. That very progression makes the film gripping right up until the end.

The direction is outstanding: the scenes inside the tank are staged with incredible intensity and authenticity. On top of that, the cast delivers strong performances across the board, making every character feel compelling.

The atmosphere is further elevated by the soundtrack, which fits perfectly. Its dark and mysterious tone enhances the mood and rounds off the experience beautifully.

Most importantly, the film offers variety. It doesn't rely on endless, exaggerated tank battles, but instead presents a well-balanced mix of action, suspense, and atmosphere. The two hours pass by in no time.

In short: a film that truly stands out and leaves a lasting impression.

A multifaceted, very interesting war film full of unexpected developments, which does not shy away from uniting mysticism, heroism, and the cruelty of war all in a single piece. The story of the film is told in a very personal way, and you feel both the emotions of every single character in great depth, as well as every single tank hit, every single bullet of the enemy across your whole body. Claustrophobic, highly suspenseful moments alternate with intense monologues and dialogues that are in no way inferior to those of other films. Especially the fact that this film is a German-language film makes it all the more fascinating.

The film is produced with high technological quality, the cinematography is on point, and the different character perspectives within the tank give you the feeling of being part of the crew. Some things are shown directly, but most are only hinted at in many ways. This film is unlike any other I have ever seen and therefore stands alone, fully justified, as an 8 out of 10.

I would recommend this film to anyone interested in war dramas or war films in general, especially those who appreciate authenticity and innovation in this genre.

The Tiger had me hooked from the very beginning. The cinematography is outstanding - every shot feels intentional and adds to the tension. The atmosphere is thick, at times almost suffocating, yet the film manages to sustain that suspense without going over the top. I rarely find myself so invested, but the "mine" scene literally made me sweat, a moment that hit me on a visceral level.

Beyond its technical brilliance, the story carries genuine emotional weight. You can feel the unspoken layers within the characters, and that subtlety gives the film its strength. The Tiger doesn't just entertain, it pulls you in completely. Easily one of the most gripping and emotionally charged films I've seen recently.

I stumbled upon this movie after seeing a review from Ralf Raths, curator of the german Tank museum, in which he - as one of the most knowledgeable experts on the Pz. Kpfw VI - defended most of the technical choices of the movie.

He did not spoil the plot, and so won't I. It was one of the few movies where I sat for the whole credits afterwards, lost in thought. In a good way.

If you like serious and tense war movies and if your heart delights to use your WarThunder knowledge, you will love it.
