No pun intended - we have a movie here that is really looking awesome! The cinematography of it ... just chefs kiss as they say. But when it comes down to the story? It's one thing to do the whole chapter stuff and mix them up chronologically speaking (not even necessary to show us most of the things in the chapter after the first one - we can piece it together) - but the pacing and the ... well let's say that some "choices" (most if you are nefarious and mean I reckon) are questionable at best.
The kid actor seems to be quite the busy bee and I am not going to tell you that she is bad in this one - but you may feel at least a little annoyed by her. Run through the crops might have been a direction - any which way, this is style over substance. There is something there - but you won't be able to put your finger on it - or your hands (yes talking about those masked men).
And talking of them - while it is eerie ... I personally think not seeing their faces (well apart from one of them), makes it tough to relate ... even in a bad way. They are human after all and not Pinhead or Jason or whomever. Their decision making is also poor .. and I am being kind. There is another element that almost elevates the movie ... gets introduced in the first chapter to be called back in the end ... well maybe if this becomes a series of movies it'll make more sense who knows.
