Makes me sad

I waited until Ep-3 to write this, hoping that the show would improve.

In my opinion ...

The Emmett character is the most awesome and authentic actor on the show, such a grounding force. Reminds a bit of Mel from Alice's Diner, rough on the outside, soft and cuddly on the inside. Emmett is always insightful, truthful, and wise - all without raising his voice.

Melissa Peterman needs to focus more on her comedy and her funny little phobias, and less on "I wanna be Reba's sister". We've seen Barbra Jean and we loved her, but Melissa is a top-notch comedian and she deserves better roles.

Bobbie is, as much as I love Reba, Bobbie is just more of the same as Reba Hart, she's such a Bully. It is always "do everything her way or take the highway". There is never a negotiation. It was the same way on her other show, granted on that show she kind of needed to be a bully to raise good kids and keep her ex-husband in-check. But it really is exhausting to have her yelling throughout the entire show.

The younger sister, Isabella, waltzes in and immediately starts pushing her millennial entitled b*s* onto everyone else. Not a funny character at all. This is supposed to be a comedy show, right? The age difference makes the entire premise of the main story line too far-fetched.

Takoda and Steve have so much promise. They need more screen time. If you cannot tone down Bobbie's yelling, then at least enhance and give us more of these two to offset the negative Reba.

Having worked in a bar, many of the background things that are going on are just disgusting ... wiping her face with the same towel that she just wiped Bar Glasses with; putting the white wine on the shelf instead of in the refrigerator; just the way they make drinks - it all needs to be more believable. At least on Cheers, it looked realistic, like they were really serving drinks - not just moving props around.

I will stick it out a few more episodes to see if they can develop these characters. But right now, even after three episodes, I still don't care about any of the characters - and that saddens me, I really wanted to love this show.

Tries Too Hard To Be Everything To Everyone

My entire family wanted so much for this to be excellent. We love sitcoms and we love Reba, so had high hopes. Most of the characters are interesting and entertaining. Unfortunately, we find the little sister character to be unlikeable to the point of not wanting to watch the show. Our recommendation is for Bobbie to buy her out and send her off to the Peace Corps or something, and change the direction of the show to focus on Bobbie moving forward from her father's death and his betrayal with the support of the remaining zany cast of characters. We doubt Happy's Place will survive to see a second season in its current iteration. (We suspect the producers are trying to draw in Gen Z with the little sister character. We don't see them watching this show with or without her.)

Like Reba, Melissa and Rex that's it.

This cast is too small.

Making the sister this young is ridiculous. She is also boring.

Love the way Rex is playing the cook & Rebas go-to & Melissa is excellent as always but the rest of the cast is a big yawn.

Some people are probably hoping for a revamp of her old show Reba. Some may be wondering even why Melissa Peterman wasn't made the sister.

A good twist would be if in a few episodes we realize the papers got mixed up & Melissa is the REAL sister. Now that would be funny! Love the set & premise of this show but so far I think it's just ok.

I will give it one more episode & if it doesn't get better Im done.

Needs adjustments

Ok, viewers are not stupid. In what planet does a woman find a lost sister who is 40 years younger? How about 10 years or even 15. I had trouble watching it after this reveal. And of course we must be politically correct with diversity out the ying Yang. We have an indigenous, Hispanic, OCD , and I sure a trans person will show up. I say ditch the sister and do a sitcom that makes sense . Reba was a bit too manic on the first episode and Melissa is working her groove. Rex Lind seems lost . But I will continue to watch for now and hope the producers change the list sister bit . It just does not work .

Unexciting

As a fan of the original Reba (currently rewatching), this falls short. Aside from Reba and the half-sister, there was nothing here to make me care about the other characters - unlike the first episode of Reba where you got a feel for the dynamic of all the characters right away - the writing made the large cast work in a good way. This didn't happen here with a smaller cast.

I love the interaction between Melissa Peterman and Reba and I wish one of the networks or streaming services would give her a show like the old variety shows in the 70s, Carol Burnett, for example. She could sing, act and there's be a place for Melissa to let her comedic talent shine.

I wish them luck with the show but it's a half hour of my week I'm not going to waste.

Live audience not a laugh track

It took me about three-episodes to really appreciate this show. I was offered tix to a live taping of the first season's finale and the audience really was raucous with laughter (not a laugh track) throughout. Even with multiple takes, lines were switched so we did not know what was hilarious line was coming. So glad it got renewed. Super-talented cast. Reba and Melissa are the Lucy and Ethel of our time. Give it a chance, wholesome, great fun. Never saw Reba before this show (so I showed up fresh with no comparison to her classic-beloved series), now watching that series as well. Don't compare the shows and you might enjoy this one on its own merits.

Balancing out the bad reviews with facts...

Wouldn't normally rate this a 10-prob a 7-but I felt the need to balance out the "Reba's too old and her sister is too young, couldn't happen" low reviews. Examples for people: Larry King's oldest biological kid (Larry King Jr) is 63; his youngest is 24. Al Pacino has a 35 year old daughter and a baby who will be 2 in June. Robert De Niro's oldest is 57 years old; his youngest just happened to turn 2 today (April 6). If I would have had a kid with my husband anytime during the last 20 years we've been married, they would be 45+ years younger than the kids he has now. (too bad y'all can't reply bc there are always lots of questions lol.) Obv my point is that it doesn't deserve a low rating bc of the age difference between the sisters. It's a fun, entertaining show. Is it the best sitcom ever? Of course not. Is it a good way to waste a Sunday? Of course.

C'mon People, Give it a Chance

So often sitcoms are torn apart over such small missteps and incongruences when most people are just looking for some light-hearted fun that delivers on a few laughs and some positive messaging. Happy's Place does exactly that. Could this show end up being a bust? Sure. However, there are way too many people making harsh judgments after only watching the pilot episode. In reality, many of the most famous and beloved comedies took at least a whole season to find their rhythm and begin meaningful character development. Happy's Place has a lot of potential and I look forward to tuning in each week because of Reba and Melissa Peterman's unmatched comedic chemistry. If you liked "Reba", this show is for you.

Get rid of the Isabella character!

The Isabella character is terrible and the actress who plays her is worse. This show is salvageable if the writers will get rid of that toxic Isabella character.

My family stopped watching the show and changed the channel half way through the second episode. We will not return to Happy's Place unless they do a major rewrite (sans Isabella).

The other characters are great. Melissa Peterman is like a breath of fresh air in the middle of what feels like a stale smoke filled room. If the writers insist on keeping Isabella, this show will not see another season. Too many people despise her character.

The show has improved since last fall

When I saw that Reba was going to star in another new sitcom I was excited to check it out. But after watching the first couple of episodes I was not impressed with the show when it first aired in the fall of '24. It just didn't make me laugh much at all. I love Reba but the show was a big disappointment.

I didn't make the effort to find it on Peacock. I figured it would most likely be cancelled.

But I decided to check it out again in February and to my surprise the shows were much funnier than the earlier ones. Maybe the writing has gotten better or something but there were several times in the last episode that I laughed out loud. It has definitely changed for the better. Keep it up.

Getting Better

So I've watched the first 3 episodes and I love it more each time I watch it. I also find myself laughing with/at all of the characters, which surprises me! Overall, it's definitely something I'll continue to watch. I hope there's a season 2 in the works. 💚

I was afraid that I'd feel that I HAD to work to like it but so far I do not feel that way. Isabella's character is a little clunky in episode 2 but in episode 3 it flowed a little better.

Dakota and Sam had a special place in the episode and thankfully it didn't feel forced(I was afraid it would get to be too much).

Gabby is Gabby and her character is growing on me as well.

Isabella is killing the show

Love Reba and Melissa. So glad they are back. But Isabella is killing the show. She is uptight and not funny. Need to get rid of her and bring in a strong male figure who is funny and have more Melissa! You are over shadowing Melissa's character. I really hope you can revamp the show or I am afraid it's not going to make it too long. I do like the other characters but everybody seems uptight like when you go to a high school production and you can tell they are acting if that makes sense. They need to relax and enjoy what they are doing. Please get rid of Isabella and bring something better. Good luck!

It is never a good sign...

It isn't a good start when every character in a show is a complete stereotype and plays it at the level of 11.

Whenever they think that they have to hit us in the face with each character's specific one dimensional personality in the first episode it just isn't a good sign of things to come.

Maybe eventually they will add some actual depth to the people on the show but I can't see it lasting that long. Complex characters are harder to write and few shows seem to want to put in the effort anymore.

And, why do so many shows have to throw in the HR training video moment when a highly educated minority with a degree tells the undereducated waitress that she couldn't possibly have missed out on anything in her life because she is white.

I love Reba

Well I was excited when I found out about the new show. I just watched the pilot, and I enjoyed it with my 15-year-old daughter (she loves Reba). I don't understand the comparison to Cheers or Friends, I loved both of those shows but this is a different time. It's not supposed to be anything like either of those. Reba has her own style and her shows can be watched by young and old. Watch it and see what you think. By the way the sitcom Reba was hilarious! We still watch the reruns and laugh out loud! I'm looking forward to Happys Place getting better with each episode. We will be watching every week.

IMO it's a Flop

I adore Reba and loved the shows Reba and Malibu Country. I was very much looking forward to the new show. Happy's Place falls very short. The biggest problem for me is the character of the newly discovered sister. She waltzes in like an entitled brat and insists on doing things her way. The bar has been run for years without her and before demanding changes, perhaps lay low, get to know everyone slowely and learn the ins and outs. Then perhaps discuss ideas with Bobby. I'm not sure if it's the character I don't like or the actress; maybe a bit of both. I like all the other actors a lot. Unfortunately, it's the writing that is holding the show back. There's really not a character I want to know more about or even care about. The three men, cook, bookkeeper and the tall guy (I'm not sure of his job) are my favorites.

The show however, is missing something. It's just doesn't come together as an enjoyable show that I want to sit down and watch. As much as I love Reba, I'm removing the show from "my list" and record area.

Re-Vamp of Old Sitcom

First off--opening scene looked too much like the Cheers bar.

The putting together Melissa Peterson and Reba again with their characters too similar to their old ones on the Reba TV show don't cut it.

Belissa Escobedo as Reba's half-sister not really cutting it. Not sure she knows how to be a comedian.

Hey, I like Reba's music, and even liked her first TV show, but this one is not cutting it for me.

Most of the other characters, especially the bookkeeper were weirdly portrayed. If one is a germaphobe why sit at a bar, and use.an air duster for cleaning off germs.

Wondering why Reba choose this script or is it she needs the money. Come on, she is touring, on The Voice and now this.

Critical reviews

People should know that Happy's Place is actually good. It's family oriented but it seems like people expected it to be just like "Reba" (The show).

You can't get that same Reba, people shouldn't expect things to be exactly alike. I wish they have the original cast and see how they grew up but this isn't the case and I'm not disappointed because I didn't expect the same story. Give the show a try, keep watching it and if you truly don't like it then that's fine but show is still brand new and the cast are still figuring out their place. The first several episodes will always be somewhat awkward and off, my advice is to keep any open mind.

When You Just to Lighten Up and Laugh

No this sitcom isn't groundbreaking but there are such few traditional sitcoms on the air as it is. Reba McEntire always seems to be easy going in life and on the show. The show won't win any awards but it's worth watching because it's heartwarming and lighthearted. Reba McEntire does a fine job as the daughter and heiress to her father's bar. The actress who plays her surprise half sister Isabella does a fine job too. They learn about each other after their father's death. Melissa Peterman was a veteran of Reba's previous sitcom. Melissa and Reba work well together. Melissa is good casting for the show based on prior experiences. The show could use improvement as sitcoms take time to evolve. Just give it a chance especially if you love Reba.

This is Happy's Place NOT the Reba Show!!!!

It seems a lot of ppl went in looking for the "reba show" and came out disappointed. This is not the reba show, this is Happy's Place!

Everything Reba does comes from the heart. The storyline is relatable because we've all experienced the loss of someone, and were left to navigate the good and bad of what they left behind-that's what this show explores. There's room for improvement, particularly with timing and narrative, but that won't come without giving the show time to grow. Remember this is a pilot episode!

With the kind of cast and crew that the show has, it will only get better from here!

Guy who Sits at Bar is Killing the Vibe

The general premise of the show is a bit weird, I mean the little sister is SO much younger that it's really not even plausible. Reba is the same as her former TV personality, which is probably why the majority of people are tuning in. Melissa Peterman also mostly reprises her Reba role, and I have no problem with that.

But for me, the worst part of the show is the germaphobe at the bar, who's apparently really smart and does the bar's accounting, yet chooses to be at the bar ALL the time. The actor's delivery of every line feels forced and even his mannerisms feel unnatural. It seems like he is a former child star trying to be cute. Yike.

Horrible Laughtrack

Aaaargh! The horrible, artificial, annoying, absolutely unnecessary laughtrack completely ruins this otherwise highly watchable show. You have to wonder what group of network executives think the TV public is so simple they can't judge what is funny on their own. Reba, as always, shines with her always on point personality and sense of comedic timing. The other actors are just okay, and need to grow into their roles. This show would have real potential without the invasiveness of the.aggravating laughtrack. I suppose there is some group of viewers who aren't bothered by this unnatural noise, but I am not one of them and will not watch further episodes. Too bad - I was really looking forward to Rea's return to television.

Not bad, I look forward to more

I've only watched a few episodes but I like it so far. I have to laugh reading other reviews talking about the youngest sister being too young to be believable- when I was born, my siblings were 45, 43, 41, 38, and 13. Same dad, 4 different moms because dad was a lady's man. Her age seems perfectly believable to me! 😆

So far I've seen the first 3, and I feel like the cast is getting into their grove and settling into the roles. Hopefully, Happy's Place is given a chance to develop and hit their stride, as I think it could be a wonderful show. I have yet to see Reba in a role I didn't like her in.
