"DRAWING CLOSER: A PERFECT MOVIE"

"Drawing Closer" is a total tearjerker! It's one of those movies that just gets you right in the feels. The story is so good, it's like a perfect puzzle that just fits together. I've cried so many times watching it, I've lost count.

But it's not just about sadness, it really makes you think about love in a whole new way. It shows you how complicated and messy relationships can be, but also how strong and beautiful they can be too.

The characters are so real, you feel like you know them personally. They go through so much, but you just want to root for them the whole time. It's one of those movies that just sticks with you, even after it's over.

You really get a sense that the director understands people, and they made a movie that's both beautiful to watch and emotionally powerful. The actors are amazing, they really bring the characters to life. I can't recommend this movie enough, it's a must-see!

Don't forget to bring some napkins to wipe your tears!

Even though it's a bit familiar storyline. But it's a enjoyable film to watch!

The use of a blue haze creates a dreamlike atmosphere that complements the film's themes. This visual choice, while divisive among viewers, adds depth to the narrative and enhances the emotional impact of scenes.

The film's structure focuses on moments rather than grand gestures. This approach allows the story to unfold, drawing the audience into the characters' experiences. The pacing gives viewers time to reflect on the themes presented.

While the film treads familiar ground in the genre of terminal romance, its restraint and focus on small, meaningful interactions elevate it. "Drawing Closer" reminds us of the profound impact we can have on each other's lives, regardless of time. I really like it.

Brought me to tears and I'm a 19 year old man😭

Watched this movie on Netflix at 2am. I rarely cry at movies unless it's really good, and trust me this did not disappoint. I don't often watch foreign movies, but this one was so good. I was struggling to breathe near the end and my tears never stopped 😭😭. The acting was incredible, the music was good and the meaning behind the flowers was such a unique context to the story. It made me remember someone who I loved deeply but could no longer talk to as they moved on. So this story struck me in the heart so deeply, I haven't felt so affected from a movie in years. To anyone who questions watching this movie, please watch it won't disappoint.

P. S just learn this Ren Nagase is a Japanese idol in a group called King and prince. I was just streaming their music and it's so good. Cinderella girl song is so cute.

This is an amazing movie :')

Man, I generally don't write reviews for any of the films. But this... this movie deserves it. This film feels similar to the anime "I want to eat your pancreas" and I even cried watching that back then and I cried a lot more after watching this film. The chemistry between Hayasaka and Haruna was so sweet and the way they conveyed their feelings in the end, it was a lot to make a grown man cry :') The ending was also nicely done. The direction and narration of the film is excellent. The acting done by the actors is also so perfect like they really got into their characters and performed very well.

Perfect film in my opinion 100/10.

Bland

One of the blandest male leads in J teen drama history, how this become so popular is beyond me.

The emotions started to kick in when Haruna is gone but she is recounting her story to us, so so much for chemistry. I don't understand how these two are supposed to have chemistry together. Their scenes are as awkward as Akito acts around her. The trope of the introverted guy and the chatty, spirited girl ceased to work its magic.

Miura was the most "human" of the bunch. At least I believed her emotions.

It started to kick in at the end but at almost two hours this is unbearable. Why make this kind of movie unless you have something completely fresh or at least actors that can emote and be convincing?

Prepare your tissue movie !

This is the first time I'm giving a review. It's a must watch movie. Not cringey at all and full of sentimental values especially the meaning behind the Gerberas flowers. Honestly, did not expect it to be this good because I have watched something similar which is "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" but this movie is two times more emotional. You will know why when you watch it. This movie shows exactly how well the character development goes along the way. It may start of a bit slow at the beginning but towards half of the movie, it makes the audience feel touching between the two main characters. Even though they don't express much about their feelings towards each other. The relationship between them feels so natural and genuine through their actions and the way they treated each other so well. Please prepare tissue because I really mean it. What I learned from this movie is to always appreciate peoples around you and cherish each and every moment with your loved ones while you are still able to. There is also nostalgic plot at the end. Make sure to watch it!

An Intriguing Yet Incomplete Journey

Drawing Closer is a film that offers a fascinating premise but ultimately struggles to meet the expectations set by its concept. While the film has its moments of emotional depth and strong performances, it often falls short in delivering a cohesive and fully realized narrative. With a story that explores complex relationships and personal growth, Drawing Closer shows a lot of potential, yet it leaves much to be desired.

The plot revolves around the evolving relationships between a group of characters, focusing on their emotional journeys and the ways in which their lives intersect. The film dives into themes of love, loss, and reconciliation, all of which are inherently powerful subjects. However, the execution of these themes often feels disjointed. The pacing, in particular, is a major issue. At times, the film lingers too long on certain scenes, forcing the viewer to sit through drawn-out moments that don't contribute much to the story. On the other hand, some key plot points and emotional turning points are rushed through, leaving little room for the audience to fully invest in the characters' arcs.

One of the most significant drawbacks of Drawing Closer is its inability to fully develop its characters. While the script provides each character with a rich backstory and clear motivations, these elements aren't always brought to life in the performances or the direction. There are moments where the characters' emotional journeys feel underexplored, and as a result, it's difficult to feel deeply connected to them. The film seems to rely on the audience's understanding of familiar character tropes rather than fully fleshed-out personalities. This prevents some of the more poignant moments from having the emotional impact they should.

Despite these shortcomings, the film does have its strengths. The cinematography stands out as one of the most impressive aspects of Drawing Closer. The visual style is striking, with beautifully framed shots and a subtle use of lighting that enhances the overall mood. The cinematography is especially effective in portraying the emotional undertones of the film, capturing the internal struggles of the characters in a way that words alone cannot. The film's aesthetic is undoubtedly its strongest suit, and it helps to elevate certain scenes that might otherwise feel lacking.

Another area where Drawing Closer succeeds is in its soundtrack. The music complements the film's tone, adding an extra layer of emotional depth to the story. The score is subtle yet powerful, perfectly timed to accompany the film's more intimate and emotional moments. This is one of the few areas where the film truly succeeds in drawing the audience into its world and making them feel a connection to the characters' experiences.

Despite these positive elements, Drawing Closer ultimately struggles to fulfill the potential it teases at the beginning. The film feels like it's constantly on the verge of being something truly exceptional, but it never quite crosses that threshold. The narrative meanders, the character development is uneven, and the emotional payoff doesn't feel earned. There are moments that stand out as particularly powerful, but they are few and far between, and often they're overshadowed by moments that drag the pacing down or lack the emotional weight they should carry.

At its core, Drawing Closer is a film that tries to do a lot-explore complex emotional landscapes, delve into intricate relationships, and present a compelling story of personal growth. Unfortunately, it doesn't fully succeed in any of these areas. The film's ambition is evident, but its execution feels incomplete. It's a movie that could have been something much more powerful if it had been more tightly structured and its characters more fully realized.

Overall, Drawing Closer is a film that shows a lot of promise but ultimately falls short of being truly memorable. It's not without merit, and it has enough redeeming qualities to make it worth watching, especially for those who enjoy character-driven dramas. However, the film's flaws are significant enough to prevent it from reaching its full potential. A rating of 7/10 feels appropriate, as it's a film with some strong elements, but it's ultimately not as impactful as it could have been.

Highly recommend (emotional)

Watching this movie made me realize on how our actions can affect others heavily. Although the acts we do may seem small, it may not be for others. The movie really helped me understand the feelings of others and how life has it's twist and turns. I broke down watching because of how relatable it was, I cried a bunch of times in multiple scenes. Watching the characters bond with each other as their relationship between one another improves. You understand about people's feelings and their perspectives. The similar beliefs and thoughts shared. I love this drama, it really hurts me differently. I just love how it makes you re-think about your actions and the affect it may have on others. This may help all of us viewers to change our way of life style and be more open to to others.

Blue haze

What's with this unbelievably irritating blue haze. Like I have cataract or some other sickness of the eyes. It reminds me of the horrible hazy pictures of photographer david Hamilton. But that was in the seventies, fifty years ago. Which director still uses this outdated technique. If I want a blue haze, I'll wear stupid blue glasses. This blue haze is like the irritating background music that never stops, not even during dialogues. I blink all the time when I'm watching this movie, thinking I have grease in my eyes. So I stopped watching after five minutes. The real world isn't hazy, so why does a director think he or she should make it 100% hazy all the time? Why does a director think he should manipulate the image to make me feel a certain way instead, to make me feel sad or something. Hazy picture means weak story. Yuk.

Beautiful & Emotional

A beautifully crafted movie with a story with messages which would turn viewer into some what a better person.

Thank you all the crew involved for making such a great piece of art!!💖

Here are some special things I loved about the movie :)

Cinematography and color grading is remarkable.. Some shots were like pictures drawn on a canvas, gave goosebumps. Massive respect for colorists and dop's.

Acting, script and editing was on point. Struck the emotions in the perfect manner and the movie went it a very great flow.

The background scores too went along really well!!

And yeah, a great script, great acting, beautiful cinematography, beautiful background scoring.. thats a good movie to watch right there!!

Finally another heart touching movie after decades

I've watched plenty movies whole my life and only a handful can make me cry, last time I cried was June 2013 when my dad died, and last time I cried because of a movie was 1997 (Titanic), and I'm over 40 years old male that hardly cried.

The main female character was perfectly played by Natsumi Deguchi, a Chinese born Japanese actress and very attractive too, although I didn't cried whenever there was a sad scene throughout the movie, in the end after the director decided to explain everything to the viewers it surely made me wept.

For those who easily cry be prepared for this movie will surely make you cry a lot.

3 gerberas out of 5

The best thing about this movie is its title. The second best is the emotion it occasionally evokes, especially in the final shot. Beyond that, it suffers from the same issues I have with every Japanese adaptation of a novel-the tired presentation of inner monologues. This happens in anime too. The acting is average, the colors are sometimes so saturated that they look like a TikTok edit, and the plot is filled with clichés, making it predictable at every turn.

TL;DR It wasn't anything special to me, just a film that lingered in the ordinary. But the visuals-they were beautiful enough to make me pause. The music-soulful, weaving through the gaps where the story couldn't reach me.

Love can transcend pain and suffering

Draw Closer (2024) is a deeply moving film that captures the grief of life in a way that feels painfully real and at the same time shows that love that can transcend pain and suffering.

The narrative is beautifully woven, revealing layers of connection and distance, hope and despair. Every scene is charged with emotion, drawing you closer to the characters until their pain becomes your own. The cinematography is equally mesmerizing, capturing the subtle nuances of the story with a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic.

The story centers on love and loss, showing how these experiences shape us and sometimes break us. The characters' struggles with their emotions are portrayed so honestly that you can't help but feel their pain. This movie ruined me-it dives into the heartache of losing someone and the emptiness that follows, leaving you feeling heavy long after it ends.

I'll never forgive the Japanese!

They made me, a 29 year-old dude with a full-grown manly beard, cry like a little girl whilst watching this movie.

Here's how they did it: First of all, I was already feeling blue so I needed something to match my mood. I was prepared for its ending because I assumed it was going to be some sort of Your Lie In April & I Want To Eat Your Pancreas fused together. HOWEVER what nobody prepared me for was all the heart-wrenching scenes of pure innocence being maintained even in the face of death which is odd because most people would give in to despair and lose all hope. They did their best to enjoy life to the very end.

Thank God neither of them had watched Breaking Bad prior to their diagnosis.

Nice Movie

From the beginning, you will know that there is no "hope". However, as you get deeper into the film, you want to hope for them.

Great Movie, as a romance fan of "dead" in the synopsis this movie satisfied me a lot. Before the 3 Gerberas reveal, i think the author do "too much" that this movie kinda feel like Your Lie in April and I want to eat your pancreas. I just don't like how this movie look like cheapskate of Your Lie in April(Anime), even tho this movie has potential but kinda wasted because they are "trying too much".

I really like the story telling, especially the 3 Gerberas scene, I love it really. Haruna, Miura, and Hayasaka really did well in this 3 Gerberas especially Miura the best character in this film.

Sinematography? Well its ok.

Acting? Good but not great.

What a beautiful cryfest! Enjoyed every bit of it😭🎀

After anime movies 'your name' and 'the silent voice', this was the only movie that effortlessly made me sob my heart out <3 what a beautiful movie and how beautifully the emotions were portrayed from all ends till the very end!

If you're looking for a movie to sit down to, and cry your heart out, this is it. The slow paced romance, the build up, eventually reaching the climax and then finally provoking the viewer to give in their all to hold down their tears. And right when I thought I was done sobbing, came 2-3 more waves of them. And it kept going on till the very end of the credit scene. Absolutely worth it <3.

Drawing Closer

Drawing Closer hit me way harder than I expected. The cast, especially Ren Nagase and Natsuki Deguchi, felt so real and raw - their chemistry made everything feel honest . The movie's vibe is beautiful but super emotional, like, I cried way too much (not even sorry).

The visuals are stunning and kinda dreamlike, which just pulls you deeper in. It's one of those films that sticks with you long after you watch it. If you're into movies that feel real and hit all the feels, this one's definitely for you. Honestly, I keep thinking about it days later - it just won't leave my mind.

Trust me, it's an emotional journey worth taking.

Sad but beautiful and delightfully acted

After a string of not so good series and films we had watched, my wife and I spotted this. It tells the story of a young girl who is terminally ill and doesn't have long to live. She meets a young man and he sets out to make her last months better for her, while discovering more about himself in the process. I won't go into the plot - you'll have to watch it! What was an absolute delight was the performances of the two young actors (and the supporting cast too). Very sad but very beautifully done. The music too was calm and beautiful and supported the film well. Well done to Japan for a fine film!
