A gripping drama that is worthy to watch

This movie is a dramatized version of the Godhra Kand incident. The narration of the story is well-paced. It keeps you hooked till the end. It sticks to the central story without adding extra drama. The narration tries to be balanced without hurting any community.

The performances of the lead cast are brilliant. I loved the performance of Vikrant Massey and Riddhi Dogra. They nailed their roles perfectly.

A few of the things that I didn't like about this movie: 1. It attempts to play safe too much by adding certain devotional elements unrelated to the storyline, especially towards the end.

2. A few scenes when the journalists start to investigate independently do not feel realistic.

Overall it is a good movie with a gripping storyline and an exceptional performance.

Not a propaganda movie but needs improvement - A decent watch

I had initially decided to put this on the back burner due to the dismal performance of this movie at the box office and the truckload of negative reviews. However, since a friend of mine worked on this film, he suggested I give it a chance.

As the title suggests, this movie revolves around the catastrophic burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, Gujarat, where 59 people were burned alive. It took nearly 15 years to establish that this was not an accident but a heinous crime fueled by hate.

The movie wastes no time in getting to the point, and the unfolding drama immediately piques your interest. However, after a while, it starts to feel a bit sluggish as the narrative becomes somewhat stagnant. That said, the story picks up pace once the investigation begins. The movie could have been more engaging by delving deeper into the emotional plight of the victims and highlighting the gruesomeness of the burning train. Additionally, the makers shy away from explicitly addressing how a particular religion's communal hatred played a role in this heinous crime.

Vikrant Massey shines throughout as a journalist and fits the role perfectly. Riddhi Dongra, as the senior journalist, is the true star of this film. She portrays a headstrong, ambitious woman with remarkable realism. Raashi Khanna appears in the latter half of the movie but makes her presence felt with a sincere performance.

While the film lacks suspense to make the ongoing investigation truly thrilling, the camaraderie between Vikrant and Raashi makes it a compelling watch. However, the graphics and art departments could have done a better job depicting the burned train.

This may not be a perfect movie, but it addresses one of the most significant chapters in Indian history that we must all be aware of. It's a decent watch, suitable for viewing with the family.

A haunting reflection of india's Past"

"The Sabarmati Report" is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language political drama film directed by Dheeraj Sarna. The film is based on the Godhra train burning incident of 27 February 2002, involving the Sabarmati Express train ¹.

The film stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Riddhi Dogra in lead roles. The movie follows the story of two journalists who uncover a dark conspiracy in the wake of the tragedy.

The film received mixed reviews from critics. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express gave the film 1.5 stars out of 5, stating that it had "no nuance, just judgement" ¹. On the other hand, Amit Bhatia from ABP News gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, praising its bold approach to the subject matter and the performances of the lead actors ¹.

Overall, I would give the film 3 stars out of 5. While it tackles a sensitive and important topic, it falls short in terms of nuance and depth. However, the performances of the lead actors are commendable, and the film is worth watching for those interested in Indian history and politics.

*Rating:* 3/5 stars

*Positives:*

  • _Bold approach to a sensitive topic_
  • _Commendable performances by the lead actors_
  • _Well-researched story_

*Negatives:*

  • _Lack of nuance and depth_
  • _Some scenes feel overly dramatic or sensationalized_
  • _Not all characters are well-developed_

No investigation at all

The movie picked up a good topic and messed it up.

It fails to answer any of the questions -
  • Why was the train set on fire ?

  • Background events that led to the incident. Motive.

  • Who gained politically from the incident ?

  • What the administration could have done to prevent the incident ?

  • How the administration handled the after effects ? And why ?

  • There is very brief mention about the after riots. Who was responsible for the riots ? Who gained from riots ?

Actors did a good job, but direction is bad.

There is no investigation done by protagonist at all. Things just happen in the movie without any effort.

The loud suspenseful music is used more than it is required.

The storyline in The Sabarmati Report is phenomenal.

The storyline in The Sabarmati Report is phenomenal. The movie does a fantastic job of creating suspense while addressing a serious historical event. Vikrant Massey's character is inspiring, as he fearlessly dives into the unknown, seeking justice. Raashii Khanna's role adds an emotional layer that makes the story even more engaging. Each twist felt like a revelation, pulling me further into the narrative. The story resonates deeply, not only as a thriller but also as a reminder of how crucial it is to remember and understand our history. It's a remarkable film with a storyline that's both thrilling and deeply moving.

Not perfect but good watch as of brave motive of its makers

Nice watch for knowing what is not told much about in recent past.

The work ethics of some media houses are shown adequately.

The movie wastes no time in getting to the point, and the unfolding drama immediately piques your interest.

But this movie should be given a pain of more research and proper technical & aesthetic treatment.

. However, after a while, it starts to feel a bit sluggish as the narrative becomes somewhat stagnant. That said, the story picks up pace once the investigation begins.

. The movie could have been more engaging by delving deeper into the emotional plight of the victims and highlighting the gruesomeness of the burning train. Additionally, the makers shy away from explicitly addressing how a particular religion's communal hatred played a role in this heinous crime.

The storyline of The Sabarmati Report is a masterclass in suspense and storytelling.

The storyline of The Sabarmati Report is a masterclass in suspense and storytelling. From the very beginning, the plot pulls you in, layering suspense with emotional depth. Vikrant Massey's journey through each twist and revelation feels incredibly real, and Raashii Khanna's character brings a much-needed emotional counterbalance. This movie doesn't just entertain; it challenges the audience to think about history, memory, and responsibility. It's a storyline that combines thriller elements with social commentary, making it one of the best cinematic experiences I've had in a long time. Highly Recommended.

movie is nice, but...

Tone, Script & Story: The story is how the Godhra incident was falsely reported at the beginning but bought to light after long wait.

The movie is nice but I don't remember a time where I was not aware of the truth. I knew exactly from the time of incidence known to me, its nature.

The most that I liked about the movie is its stance on truth. The news channels are given the responsibility of bringing truth to people. The thing to critic is they are failing in doing so.

Sabarmati what comes to one's mind after hearing the name? It's the rhythm "Sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamaal... raja ram..." and so on. It's related to Gandhi. Why such betrayal I wonder?

Hindi is seen in lime light, Vikrant Massey is seen doing justice to his role.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: The station, the bogies, the news room, the fall & rise of a drunk, the chawls, the said courtrooms, etc are justifying & well placed.

Music: Music is good, goes well with the movie. Acting: Acting is good and as mentioned Vikrant steals the show with his hindi.

Final Verdict: Do watch it, you won't be disappointed.

It's a PM Movie (Propaganda Movie )

The best way to judge if a movie is good or not is to observe who is promoting or watching it-whether it's the general public or government officials. If government officials, including the Prime Minister, are actively endorsing the movie, it often aligns with government propaganda. History has shown the world the truth during those times. Ironically, the same government that banned the BBC documentary covering this topic from the ground is now openly supporting this movie.

Vikrant Massey appears to be employing dramatic tactics, such as announcing his retirement, potentially to gain attention. Perhaps he anticipates a career shift, much like Vivek Oberoi after his involvement in the film about Narendra Modi.

Is The Sabarmati Report Too Cautious for Its Own Good?

Vikrant Massey's Investigation Uncovers Truth, But Misses Thriller Gold

Dheeraj Sarna's The Sabarmati Report tackles sensitive material with commendable restraint and Vikrant Massey delivers another sterling performance as a conflicted journalist pursuing buried truths. The film creates genuine intrigue and suspense, with Massey bringing authentic gravitas to his role whilst Raashii Khanna provides solid emotional anchoring. The subject matter (investigating the 2002 Godhra incident) is handled with surprising nuance for Bollywood.

However, what should have been a crackling political thriller occasionally settles for being merely competent. The film suffers from a lack of novelty and feels somewhat dated in its approach. Sarna's direction is workmanlike but lacks the edge that made films like Scoop or The Kashmir Files genuinely gripping. The pacing flags in the middle act, and opportunities for genuine nail-biting tension are squandered in favour of overly cautious storytelling.

The film remains crisp and devoid of melodrama, which is both its strength and limitation. Massey's committed performance and the film's sincere approach to controversial material deserve recognition, but one can't help feeling this could have been the year's standout political thriller with braver direction.

Rating: 7/10 (Solid journalism, decent film, just wish it had the courage of its convictions)

Recommended 👍🏼 by Hit Ya Flop - Movie World

The Sabarmati Report is a thought-provoking and well-researched portrayal of one of the most tragic incidents in recent Indian history, the Godhra train burning of 2002. Steering clear of unnecessary melodrama or overindulgent romantic subplots, the film takes a sharp and investigative approach to uncover the root causes of this devastating event. This grounded storytelling makes it a compelling watch. The narrative is fast-paced, driven by power-packed dialogues and crisp editing, ensuring viewers remain engrossed throughout.

The direction, while commendable in parts, occasionally falters in maintaining coherence, leaving certain subplots underdeveloped and creating several loose ends that beg for closure. The screenplay grips you with its intensity but does falter occasionally, leaving a few loose ends that could have been better tied together. One notable aspect of the film is its sensitive tribute to the victims of the Sabarmati Express tragedy. Unfortunately, the inclusion of a clip from the Ram Mandir inauguration at the end feels misplaced and detracts from the focused narrative. This choice comes across as unrelated to the core theme of the movie.

The performances are stellar, elevating the film significantly. Vikrant Massey once again proves his versatility, seamlessly embodying his character with nuance and depth. Ridhi Dogra shines as a tough, no-nonsense media boss, bringing gravitas to her role. Raashii Khanna make the story even more profound with her acting. Barkha Singh was good in a cameo. Other supporting actors are fine in their respective roles.

In conclusion, The Sabarmati Report is a gripping watch, shedding light on a dark chapter in Indian history. Despite its minor flaws, the film's solid performances and focused storytelling make it worth your time.

Vikrant Massey made a mistake

It tries to tackle religious tensions but ends up doing more harm than good. Instead of encouraging understanding, the film leans hard into stereotypes, turning different religious groups into one-dimensional characters that only reinforce negativity.

The plot revolves around conflict between faiths, but rather than offering any real insight or hope for resolution, it just piles on drama. The characters feel less like people and more like walking talking points, and the dialogue often feels forced, as if the filmmakers were more interested in stirring the pot than sparking meaningful conversations.

The pacing is all over the place, with some scenes dragging on unnecessarily, while others get rushed through. The performances are decent, but the actors are stuck with weak material that doesn't give them much to work with-making their roles feel shallow and clichéd.

In today's world, we need movies that bring us together, not divide us more. Movie Title could've been an opportunity to explore complex social issues, but instead, it plays on stereotypes and fuels conflict. The film's shock value might grab attention, but it doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the conversation.

No matter how this movie performs commercially but it vikrant into kangna ranaut The movie in every department is average Vikrant's performance is okay.

A truth that was needed to be told this bold!

The movie is based on Godhra train burning event that took place in 2002. Movie focuses on how the govt n prime media houses back then tried to cover it up as an accident until 2008 and how it was only in 2008, a court finally concluded that it wasn't an accident but a pre planned conspiracy. About 2000 mob is believed to have attacked the Hindu pilgrims train that was returning from Ayodhya n 4 coaches of the train were attacked with stone pelting n all doors were closed from outside n with petrol, 59 pilgrims were burnt alive. In 2011, about 31 were convicted by court for conspiracy n many were let go due to lack of proofs. A movie that speaks the truth very boldly. Definitely must watch tragic history of our own country. However, direction could have been even more impactful. Available in Zee5. My ratings 7/10!

The Sabarmati report

What an extraordinary film! The Sabarmati Report is a masterclass in storytelling, filled with emotion, suspense, and historical depth. The lead actor's performance is nothing short of mesmerizing, capturing the nuances of their character with perfection. The supporting cast adds layers to the story, making it even more impactful. The cinematography and production design transport you to another era, and the music perfectly complements the tone of the film. It's rare to come across a movie that's both entertaining and deeply meaningful. This one is a gem! The director has done an exceptional job of bringing out the best in every actor, and their performances are nothing short of spectacular.

The Story Line And The Performances Are Earnest In There Attempts !!!

Even with writing that falters at many places, 'The Sabarmati Report' still manages to pull a viewer's attention to a story that has at best been ignored, and at worst, suppressed. The present movie The Sabarmati Report is the latest salvo fired in the genre of self-styled exposé-like-cinema, trying to uncover the uncomfortable truth suppressed by vested interests.

These truths range from the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, "Love Jihad" in Kerala and now the burning of Sabarmati Express at Godhra railway station in Gujarat on 27 February 2002.

The movie's central plot concerns a rookie journalist's quest to uncover the real cause behind the burning of the Sabarmati Express and its attempted cover-up by a section of the fourth estate - the media. In this quest, Vikrant Massey is aided by a young researcher disillusioned by her corporate media boss, whom she used to idolise.

The first half of the movie comes out as a laborious attempt at constructing the foreground of the story which at times fails to grip the attention of the audience enough.

However, the movie at various places is interspersed with actual footage of the incident which gives it a documentary-like feel and tries to keep the audience hooked to the narrative even though at some points footage shown unrelated to the Godhra incident seems quite irrelevant and off-putting.

The second half starts building up pace as our protagonists start unravelling the conspiracy behind the tragedy. The best scenes come up in this part as our heroes quickly start connecting dots till they reach the prime culprit and uncover the actual masterplan behind the incident.

The movie's thrust is drawn from the facts detailed in the Nanavati-Mehta Commission report which stated that the burning of Sabarmati Express was a premeditated conspiracy by some local Muslims and comprehensively demolishes the 'accident' narrative. The movie rightly uses the facts detailed in this report to debunk the Banerjee Commission report (also referred to as Railway's report in popular parlance and the movie) appointed under the UPA regime's Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav with the sole intention of side-stepping the former report.

The Banerjee Commission report predictably termed the incident as an accident and was later declared null and void by the Gujarat High Court.

The highlight of the movie is Vikrant Massey's masterful performance. Through his acting and character, he bridges two parallel narratives: an underdog journalist fighting misrepresentation and the triumph of vernacular reporting for the masses over elite opinion shapers.

The other upshot is the poignant ending showcasing the poster carrying image of victims as the movie concludes with evocation of their names in a gentle tribute. It is complemented by descriptions laying down the bare historical facts regarding the incident.

Even the background score seemed misaligned with the scenes most of the time. The movie now and then descends into monologues hectoring and haranguing about things as diverse as the demeaning of Hindi speakers, the importance of Hindu-Muslim unity, the shared joy of winning the 2007 World Cup and how truth can be never suppressed etc.

Good technical investigation report but lost its way

This movie is based on the Godhra train incident back in 2002. It revolves around the main question: is this an accident or a deliberate kill mission?

It does a very good job of raising these questions. It goes through the details of the primary investigation report and challenges its basic premise. This hooks the audience as it gives a different perspective on the matter, which, I believe, most of the people growing up during that era miss.

However, the second half of the film seems to be directed by a separate person. It completely changes its tone and does not focus on the case itself but tries to strike the divide between the two religions. Then, it produces an antidote and tries to salvage the movie by showing the bonhomie between these religions, hoping to gain some brownie points. It loses the plot there and is never able to recover from that. It seems that the makers have intentionally tried to put a patriotic narrative around the film, which seems very weird and forced. Had it been based on hard facts like the first half, it would have been a much better product.

Overall, I would recommend watching this movie at least once so that you are aware of some of the narratives presented through this movie. But definitely won't go for a second watch.

Unveiling the Unspoken: A Bold Dive into a Controversial Chapter

"The Sabarmati Report" endeavors to shed light on the harrowing events surrounding the 2002 Godhra train burning incident. Vikrant Massey delivers a compelling performance as Samar Kumar, an entertainment journalist thrust into the heart of a national tragedy. His portrayal captures the internal conflict of a man torn between professional obligations and moral duty.

The film's narrative structure, oscillating between past and present, attempts to unravel the layers of political and media complicity. While the intention is commendable, the execution occasionally falters, with certain sequences feeling overly dramatized, potentially diluting the gravity of the real-life events.

Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra provide solid support, though their characters could have benefited from deeper development. The cinematography captures the somber mood effectively, and the background score complements the tense atmosphere.

However, the film's attempt to balance factual recounting with cinematic dramatization sometimes leads to a narrative dissonance. Some critics have pointed out that the film lacks nuance and leans towards a particular perspective, which might not resonate with all viewers.
