It's a fun show to watch

I have to say I really enjoyed this series even more than I expected to. Besides Apple TV always putting out bangers, I'm a fan of both Jon Hamm and Olivia Munn so I was looking forward to this since the moment first heard about it. I'm glad it didn't disappoint. The thing that did surprise me though is it's funnier than I expected. Your Friends and Neighbors is about a hedge fund manager (Hamm) who gets fired in disgrace. Not knowing what to do next he resorts to stealing from his Westmont Village neighbors. Besides the money and valuables he steals he also comes across a bunch of secrets his wealthy friends have that prove to be very dangerous. I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a fun new show to watch.

Greg Yaitanes & Jonathan Tropper hit it out again

The two above had a great run with Banshee Their edge carries over in this one Pulling in Hoon Lee as his best friend and business manager is great side kick and he always steals show with his sharp wit. Not to mention a couple of episodes with Banshee alum Matt Servitto as the shark lawyer. John Hamm carries any show he's in and is a smart choice. Trooper always finds leading women who can carry the men along and make the show complete

I doubt this will be as violent as Banshee but if it is, expect some over the top scenes as well

Olivia Munn is my favorite female lead and best surprise so far.

Love what I see so far.

Empty people. Empty neighbors. Empty friends. That's all we've got.

This show isn't about friendship or suburban bonds - it's about the vast, echoing emptiness in between. The characters wear irony like armor, laugh through despair, and live in glossy homes that hide rotting lives. Every scene scratches at something uncomfortable: the truth that beneath polite smiles and well-trimmed hedges, there's loneliness, fear, and quiet collapse. Even the humor here doesn't offer relief - it's more like a nervous laugh at your own reflection. It's a comedy that leaves you unsettled - and strangely seen. Which makes real life feel even emptier. Uneasy. Almost lonely. Almost eerie.

Looking forward to more

Your Friends and Neighbors is another hit in a long line of hits for Apple TV+. No other company has a higher percentage of hits than Apple TV right now. It seems like every show they put out is great and addictive. Now, this one isn't their best show but it's absolutely worth watching. Jon Hamm is as terrific as always. His character in this actually reminds me of his best character ever in Don Draper from Mad Men. Olivia Munn (who's one of the prettiest actresses in Hollywood) and Amanda Peet also shine here. All three give some of the best performances of their careers and should have a good chance at being nominated for some awards. I do hate waiting a week between shows though, a show like this is better watched as a binge. There seems to plenty of ways the show can go to produce more seasons so I really hope they plan on doing several more seasons.

Very amusing

I started watching this show with no expectations and very soon it took me in. A great, smooth and funny John Hamm and the rest of the cast is also well chosen.

Basically the story has a lot of potential and could become something huge if the surprises keep coming. Up to this point the storytelling is subtle and intriguing, although I don't like the part with the troublesome kids, which I think is just too worn out. But besides that, it has its moments, nice one liners and of course the superb narration of Coop which always come into play at the right time.

I believe Apple TV just landed another great show.

Interesting

Your Friends and Neighbors is a social satire and the sharpest soap opera that combines strong visual language with ample landscaping.

The actors have a natural charm and a great deal of professionalism in their work.

A great show that actually maintains its plot quite well and then gradually releases it in doses, an interesting story about how a white-collar professional becomes involved in the classic art of traditional thievery.

The only thing that seems a little odd is that, given the rather opulent environment in which the protagonist lives and steals, one might assume that the use of surveillance would be much more frequent. But I think the attitude of the wealthy is that they are locked away and isolated within the confines of their community, and the need for such security would almost be a middle-class status in their twisted minds.

It is true that in some homes we find some kind of alarm, but overall, it feels like there is no need for such trivial controls.

The other aspect of the series is the dominant role of women.

Better than I expected

Don't know why the industry thinks we need more shows about awful people we could never root for, but hey here we are... And while we're here, let's enjoy this quite realistic portayal of obnoxious shallow delusional 50 year olds which in some level are your friends and neighbors unless you're really lucky in life.

The first three episodes were quite interesting and bingeable, the twists are there and the writing is balanced, also there are signs of a protagonist arc (not a very original one if it is the "a hole hits rock bottom and discovers the meaning of life after being forced to turn to crime") I can see this finding its crowd and pace for two seasons but not much further, I will be finishing the season for sure, even the worst apple tv shows are still quite good.

Well, what can I say?

I've just binged two-thirds of the first season in two days and found it surprisingly fun to watch.

It's a gripping, intelligent and emotionally rich series that exceeded all expectations. With sharp writing, subtle tension and complex characters, it paints a compelling picture of suburban life, where secrets simmer just beneath the surface.

Jon Hamm delivers one of his best performances to date - nuanced, charismatic and deeply human. The entire cast is excellent, but Hamm anchors the show with quiet power and emotional depth.

Beautifully shot and perfectly paced, this is a must-watch for fans of slow-burn drama.

If you're a film junkie like myself then you'll appreciate the time and effort that Jonathan Tropper and everyone else put in to make this happen.

I enjoyed it. Not my place to say where it could have been improved. It is what it is.

Thank you.

Great start... then a little meh and silly, but...

But I'm hanging in there to see how the season progresses because this show has had some great scenes, especially in the first episode. The second episode was OK, but I am rating episode 3 at the low point so far. Some decisions the characters make just do not see plausible at all and exaggerated for effect. But we get it, you don't have to spell it out to understand what's going on here.

Just give us more "Lu" and tell it like it is.

One thing I absolutely love is the way the makers give us the on screen details of something he steals... that's cool.

This show has promise, but I am not convinced at this point.

It gets worse and worse as the season goes on.

Terrible and implausible decisions. Super disappointing and painful to watch after the first one or two episodes.

It's hard to find a great series, and even harder to define what's great anymore.

Hey, this is my first review here ever so take it with a pinch of your favorite condiment, on the other hand I hate nothing more than spoilers so read it safely.

This tv series is no different than any others, there's no chance you could please everyone and just like in life, if you read more reviews you'll find them all, great, amazing, bad, terrible and so on.

What I think this show offers, and bare with me, this is only up to episode four so far, is a bit of everything, a bit of humor, a bit of drama, a bit of unnecessary, just about as usual, now what I think makes it a great show is by delivering some great lines, if you're like me, and love a great line, you'll find plenty in this one, quite like in "Landman" where Jon is a protagonist as well, but those lines there don't come from him, but still a great watch that was, again... in my opinion.

I think those who will enjoy this show are those in mid/late 30's+ and I say that as I believe many will find themselves in one way or other in some of the scenes you'll be witness throughout the show, a bit of an emotional rollercoaster at times, but not a bad one, it's normal to feel that way, it will bring up memories, good and bad possible, especially parenting wise, it hits the spot for quite some of us with that, hence the mid/late 30's+ note.

Overall I think it will find it's own crowd.

Enjoyable But Risible

For me, this is a way to pass an idle hour or so with a couple of daft storylines. I like the premise of a guy who's been dumped upon in most aspects of his life and even that he turns to crime against his rich friends and neighbours but the big question for me is, do none of these rich people have even doorbell cameras never mind property CCTV? It seems odd that he gets into all of these houses (early on it's explained that they feel so secure that they leave doors unlocked) but there's not a single camera to record any of his misdemeanours. Decent cast, nobody sparkles but it plods on well enough.

Desperate Housewives Meets You

I'm not much of a fan of the lead actor (Jon Hamm) in this series, but he has pleasantly surprised me! At times I find the plot predictable, a bit outrageous, and recycled. But the script is so well written and delivered that it has kept me engaged thus far!

Not only has it kept me engaged, but it has done the most important thing (in my opinion) a film should, it makes a statement about the human condition that spurs introspection and builds rapport with the audience. The show doesn't take too long to get to the point, and instead quickly gets to an enjoyable simmer. It allows the viewer to enjoy, in detail, the very tangible experience of being in the main character's shoes during this strange moment in his life.

If they've ever had a truly soul-crushing experience that has made one question reality itself, the viewer should relate to both the writer and main character of this surprisingly deep story about getting punched in the face while making life plans. Younger audiences may not get it, and Ted Lasso may be a better binge for them. But for a mature audience, particularly if you liked the character Joe Goldberg in You, I highly recommend giving this $200,000 car a test drive. You'll know if it's your cup of tea by the end of the first episode!

EDIT AND SPOILER ALERT: After watching the Season 1 finale, I find myself extremely confused and disappointed. The $200,000 trunk that won't stay closed gimmick gets used exactly one too many times, suddenly becoming a metaphor for the many plot holes that the owners just never had time to leave in the hands of a professional long enough to fix. Apparently, one can just break into the home they're accused of committing a murder in, produce one's own evidence, leave their fingerprints all over it, and survive their own monologue about, "that's not how things work in the real world!" by simply "try(ing) harder!"

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the season. I tuned in the day each new episode became available. I ignored plot holes other reviewers have pointed out (like the absence of security cameras), and I thoroughly enjoyed the outrageous ride! But I found the final episode a bit like a two-day old balloon exhausting the last of its helium with the sound of a flatulent ogre. The very man who hits rock bottom and re-evaluates the meaning of life, happiness, and seems to somehow fearlessly rise above his own karma by breaking into his "friends and neighbors" homes to steal Rolex watches, in the final eposode, gifts his son his very own-wait for it-Rolex Daytona (worth over $30,000).

So I find myself, at the end of this commentary about the shallow nature of humanity and the absurdity of the constructs we build for ourselves to collect, define our success, and measure our happiness by, realizing that that our brave, enduring hero never even had to sell his $200,000 car or $30,000 watch before resorting to petty thievery. He never truly transformed at all. He just went from hedge fund manager, stealing less genetically fortunate peoples' wealth with charisma to Robin of Westmont, stealing from the rich to give to the... rich.

I can't imagine season 2 being interesting or compelling in any way! I expected some humility, transformation, or growth of our main character; and instead we got duped, just like everyone else "Coop" has ever met. In season 2 he will charm, luck, and white privilege his way out of another series of "misfortunes" that we won't take any more seriously than the murder charge he acquitted himself of, like a bad episode of Matlock, in an embarrassingly ant-climactic Season 1 finale.

Great Show

This show has an interesting premise that follows through with hooks that keep you intrigued and looking forward to the next episode. The acting is nuanced and very well done. I've seen Amanda Peet and John Hamm in many shows, but in this case forget them and only see the roles they are playing, same with Olivia Munn. The kids of the couple play tortured rich children with too much pressure on them well. The settings are beautiful and are a definite juxtaposition to the internal strife of that all the characters. Everything is not what it seems, from the underpaid maids to the overpaid hedge fund executives.

Gripping and Well-Crafted - I'm Hooked

Your Friends & Neighbors" is one of the best new shows I've come across in a while. From the first episode, I was hooked. The pacing is tight, the story keeps you guessing, and the tension builds in all the right places.

It's shot beautifully - every scene feels purposeful, and the cinematography gives the show a sleek, modern edge. The cast brings serious chemistry to the screen, and their performances feel authentic and layered. Jon Hamm especially delivers a compelling lead performance that pulls you in.

If you're into drama with depth, sharp writing, and characters who feel real, this one's worth your time. I'll definitely be sticking with it.

good show, good vibe

John hamm makes everything he's in better. From good omens to fargo to the princess bride home movie.

Same goes for hoon lee- warrior and banshee wouldn't have been the same without him.

Your friends and neighbors is a coherent and sophisticated romp through the hypocrisy and falsities of the country club elite.

I like most everything about this show. An issue i have with it is the music though. It's terrible- from the theme song to every whiny hipster ballad conclusion, i can not stand the music they choose for this show. The original orchestral compositions are fine, but whoever is picking the pop songs needs a new career.

It's good but full of plot holes

I am watching this show and generally liking it, but it's completely implausible. Another reviewer mentioned security cameras, which are notable in their absence.

Also, this isn't how divorce works. And if he loses his job (and income) he wouldn't have to pay for much of anything for his ex and kids. And then he wouldn't have the same need to replace his income and - there goes the central plot. We are supposed to ignore that, I suppose.

Are we supposed to like, or admire, these terrible rich people? They all lead empty lives, except for Jon Hamm's sister, who is somewhat sympathetic. Another trope there - she is somewhat unstable and therefore MORE adjusted??

Undecided if I will continue to watch. Especially since Andor is back.

A Note on Your Friends & Neighbors and Jonathan Tropper

Jonathan Tropper is mostly known among Iranian series lovers for Banshee-one of the best action TV shows ever, which still gets people talking with excitement. But fewer people know that he also created another martial arts action series called Warrior, inspired by Bruce Lee's legacy, and it's honestly just as thrilling.

In Your Friends & Neighbors, aside from a cast that overlaps with Banshee, you can feel similar storytelling vibes-especially in character development and narrative setup. We meet a character who, after going through a certain experience, can no longer "be himself." It's very reminiscent of Lucas Hood in Banshee. But this time, Tropper steps into a new, less familiar world-especially for someone known for gritty action.

Here, we follow the life of a charismatic man (played by the effortlessly charming Jon Hamm) who's facing financial ruin and turns to stealing from his wealthy friends and neighbors to survive. The tension of living a double life, assuming a new identity, and juggling parallel stories is deeply felt-again, very Banshee-like. Even the show's raw sex scenes and alluring female characters bring that familiar edge, though maybe not quite as intense, but still memorable.

In terms of theme and tone, the show is clearly about collapse-everything is on the verge of falling apart, as the opening credits suggest. But that collapse is wrapped in a blend of drama and dark humor, to the point where you sometimes forget just how tragic the story really is because of how sweetly it's being told.

Before I started this series, I thought The Studio was the best currently airing show. But now that I've reached episode seven, I can confidently say Your Friends & Neighbors is doing something truly special. Definitely add it to your watchlist.

Great Acting Can't Save This Shallow Suburban Drama

The series starts promisingly, but unfortunately, this turns out to be merely a bright lure for viewers. The initial intrigue and dynamic pace gradually dissipate, transforming a potentially interesting story into yet another mundane drama about life in wealthy suburbs. Instead of developing the initial captivating storyline, the writers chose an easier path, delving into worn-out clichés about rich people's problems.

The most disappointing aspect is the character development. Despite the professional acting, which truly deserves praise, the characters themselves remain flat and unconvincing. None of the heroes evokes any emotional response or empathy, making the viewing experience even more detached. The actors try hard to breathe life into their roles, but the limitations of the material don't give them room to create truly deep characters.

By the end of the first season, the series completely loses its initial appeal, becoming just another typical product of the television conveyor belt. The only bright spot remains the actors' skillful performance, but even their efforts can't compensate for the lack of emotional connection with the characters and the predictability of the plotlines.

So damn well made!

The beautiful cinematography, charm, rich vibes, and thoroughly entertaining keeps any viewer intrigued! My mom has been into the series I see why we like similar things. I just finished 2 episodes I love it, glad there's 6 available. Reminds me of an apple version of Succession except Jon Hamm gets involved in stealing and has friends that are vastly more successful than him.

I love that Craig Gillespie is involved I very much enjoy his last few films I Tonya, Cruella, and Dumb Money are excellent. Apple is a superb service in the last decade or less ish especially with delightfully charming entertainment like this show.

Very promising but went all over the place

Jon Hamm has presence. Always has. He fits the mold of powerful, polished men - men with secrets, with money, with the kind of control that makes others nervous. But here, he sheds the armor. There's vulnerability. A quiet unraveling. It's unexpected. And it works.

The show is stacked - big names, top-tier production, the kind of setup that should go places. Early episodes show promise. The dialogue lands. The pacing holds. But then it shifts. Too many characters, too many side plots, each one drifting further from the core story.

Momentum starts to slip.

The narrative spreads thin, and the main thread - the one that mattered - is left to tangle in the background. You're left chasing fragments. And just when you think the story might pull it all back together, it doesn't. Instead, it settles for an easy out: a character delivering a monologue that unpacks everything.

Like someone reading a cheat sheet aloud.

It's not clever. It's not earned. It's lazy.

This was a story that could've gone deep. Instead, it took the scenic route - and got lost.

I love Hamm

Actually, I'm vegan..but I just love Jon Hamm so much, I almost don't care what the role or the show or movie is. Initially the ratings for this show were on the low side. Given how much I love Hamm, I thought I'd give it a look anyway. I love it. It's unique, it's rather cynical, but I like that. It's a commentary on our capitalist, shallow society. It's making me feel better that I don't live in the $3 million house. I love his character.

I'm on episode two, came here to rate and review, and really happy to see that it's now a 7.9, which makes much more sense to me. I can see how this may not be for everyone.. but it is for me. ;0)

Corporate Sabotage

In hard times they say you find who your true friends and neighbors are. This story has humor and pathos and a great examination of what happens when you're at the top of your game and the proverbial rug gets taken. Jon Hamm is the best protagonist- he's naturally funny and can be a sympathetic character. Amanda Peet is her usual cool self and Corbin Brenden plays the corporate hack spookily good! I like comedies that have black humor and take a poke at our uber capitalist society. And I will finish by saying the cast is interesting (esp. Olivia Munn) and am looking forward to the next episodes.

Great Story-But Can We Turn on a Light?!

I want to give this show 10 stars. The concept is incredible, the acting is solid, and the storyline keeps pulling me in. But good grief-can someone please hand the editors a flashlight?

Every scene is so dark I can barely tell what's going on. It's like the entire show is filmed in a candlelit basement during a power outage. I'm over this moody, low-light trend. Let us SEE the thing we're trying to enjoy!

Also... way too much sex. It's distracting and unnecessary half the time. We get it. People are into each other. Can we move on with the plot now?

Great potential-but until they brighten things up (literally and figuratively), I'm watching with the screen brightness cranked to max and one hand over the remote.

Really losing me, and Detective Lin's "Bronx" accent!

First, the positives... John Hamm actually makes it believable that he is some hard luck nice guy turning bad and makes you root for him while puzzling over his actions.

Most of the supporting cast is pretty good, or at least not noticeably bad; really enjoying Hoon Lee specifically.

The plot is getting a little silly towards the end of season one, and honestly I'm considering not finishing it. Sandrine Holt's absurd Bronx accent in her hammy role as a detective might be the last straw for me. She's completely taking me out of the show and making it cartoonish. When are we going to stop having Brits do regional American accents and stereotypes?

Still giving it a six, it's not the worst show for sure but it could be so much better!
