In the aftermath of September 11, the destinies of several servants of the French state intertwine: Lynx, a lone mercenary; Fennec, a soldier infiltrated into a dormant terrorist cell in the Paris region; Colonel Montana, the unscrupulous head of the intelligence services... Each tries to carry out their missions, while a major attack is being prepared, and a young idealistic journalist, Amel, begins a long-term investigation.

As the plan to attack French soil becomes clearer, Colonel Montana manipulates several services, both to protect the country and for personal gain. Agent Fennec is champing at the bit, and feels that he is not being told everything about the nature of his mission. Meanwhile, Lynx is ordered by his superior, Steiner, a former general operating under the radar on behalf of Montana, to get closer to Amel in order to keep an eye on the progress of his investigation.

Violent deaths continue among the members of the sleeper cell, much to the dismay of Agent Fennec, who refuses to be involved in arbitrary executions. His mental health wavers from daily contact with religious fanatics, who begin to doubt his loyalty. In parallel with these targeted assassinations, the implacable Lynx sets out to seduce Amel. But when he comes into contact with her, he lets himself be overcome by emotion, at the risk of jeopardizing his mission.

The noose tightens as the toxic gas intended for the attack gets closer to Paris. Colonel Montana covers his tracks by turning against several of his pawns, including Steiner. Fennec is unmasked by the jihadists and Lynx must confront his love for Amel with orders and cold state reasons. The journalist, for her part, gets closer and closer to the truth, even if it means putting her life in danger.
